Chapter 275 You Become the Leader of the Shadow Syndicate
In the village's underground chamber, the iron door was locked tight, guarded by a bunch of heavily armed assassins. Abigail was tied to a chair, unable to move an inch.
"Larry, are you okay?" she asked, her pale face full of worry.
Larry was tied up too, and his legs had been shot. He could control the bleeding a bit, but he was still losing a lot of blood.
Lying on the ground, he said, "I'm okay. I'm sorry, I could only save Chloe."
Between Abigail and Chloe, he had chosen Chloe.
Chloe had a rough life. After being burned and disfigured, she faced constant ridicule and lived in darkness.
He felt guilty towards Chloe.
He wanted to give Chloe a happy life, but now she was caught up in this mess.
He had no idea how long this would last or what the future held.
"I'm not blaming you," Abigail said weakly, taking a deep breath.
"I just didn't expect you to hide so much. Not only are you the mastermind behind the Epoch Group, but you're also Black Dragon. I even built a monument for you. It's so embarrassing."
Thinking back to when she built that monument for Larry, Abigail found it kind of funny.
Larry stayed silent.
Facing Abigail, he didn't know what to say.
The pitch-black basement fell into a brief silence.
After a while, Larry spoke, "I'll get you out of here safely."
"Okay, I believe you."
Abigail trusted Larry for some reason. Because he was Black Dragon.
Even the combined forces of twenty-eight countries couldn't kill him. A hundred thousand troops were deployed to hunt him down, and he still survived.
He was the guardian war god of the Summer Nation.
For a guy like him, this situation was nothing.
Soon, the iron door creaked open, and Cason walked in, turning on the lights that illuminated the pitch-black basement, the sound of his leather shoes echoing off the floor.
Two men walked over and helped Larry up from the ground.
Larry sat there, looking at Cason with a calm expression, and said, "You're asking for trouble. Do you know where you are? This is Sunset City, the headquarters of the Five Armies, with Free in command. You're provoking Free's authority."
Cason had a playful smile on his face and said, "I was ready for failure and didn't plan to leave alive. But from the looks of it, I've already succeeded more than halfway. As long as I have you, I can leave safely."
"Is that so?" Larry smiled faintly, then changed the subject. "Where did you send Chloe?"
"Don't worry. We have our rules. We promised not to kill Chloe, and we won't. I've already sent her away."
Larry breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as Chloe was safe, he was confident he could fight his way out of here.
"You know, tying me up and shooting me twice can't hold me. If I wanted to, I could get out of here anytime," Larry said nonchalantly.
Cason replied calmly, "I know. But this place is surrounded by heavily armed assassins, including the top ten on the hit list. Each one is no weaker than Lyra. You've been shot twice. If you can fight your way out, I'll be impressed."
Larry smiled faintly.
Cason was overconfident—in his own strength, the hit-list assassins, and the armed guards here. Even a hundred thousand troops couldn't hit him, let alone these guys. Larry closed his eyes and said nothing.
"Larry, I don't want to kill you. You're a strong man. Your strength is unmatched in a one-on-one fight. If you join the Shadow Syndicate, you can lead it. With you in charge, it'll definitely become world-famous."
Sitting on the ground, Larry couldn't help but glance at Cason.
What did Cason mean?
"Let me be the leader? Isn't that basically handing the Shadow Syndicate over to me? Aren't you worried I'll turn it into a legit organization?"
"Not a problem at all," Cason laughed.
"Alright, I agree. Untie me," Larry said with a grin.
Cason made a gesture.
Two men in black hoods walked over and untied Larry.
Larry stood up, stretched his muscles, and looked at Cason with a playful smile.
"You really untied me? Aren't you afraid I'll attack you? You know my strength. If I go all out, you'll definitely die."
Cason smiled playfully and said, "The entire Shadow Syndicate is yours now, and so am I. If you want to kill me, I have nothing to say."
Larry was genuinely confused.
He had always been confident in controlling everything.
But now, he didn't know what Cason was up to.
He looked at Cason for a few seconds, then walked over to Abigail and untied her.
Abigail had been tied up for a long time, and her limbs were stiff. As soon as she was untied, she collapsed into Larry's arms.
A charming fragrance filled his nostrils.
Larry helped her sit down.
He also sat down on a nearby chair, tore open his pants, and saw two bloody holes in his thigh. He clenched his fist, and a thin wire slipped down his arm. He took the wire and placed it on his wound.
The wire in his hand moved like a snake, quickly entering the wound and soon pulling out the bullets.
Cason watched this scene with a look of shock.
Black Dragon was not only powerful but also skilled in medicine.
He was indeed no ordinary person.
After removing the bullets, Larry looked at Cason and asked, "Got a cigarette?"
Cason handed over a cigar and tossed a lighter.
Larry lit it and asked calmly, "You went through all this trouble to capture Chloe, used her to threaten me, and now you want me to lead the Shadow Syndicate and even released me. What's your game?"
Cason also smoked, his face showing a hint of seriousness.
"You were once one of the Summer Nation's Five Great Marshals, known as the Southwild Black Dragon, commanding the million-strong Black Dragon Army. You are the strongest in the world. You should know Alden Ashcroft."
Larry's eyes narrowed.
"Alden?"
How could he not know this person?
Three years ago, before becoming commander, Larry led a mission with over a hundred top experts from the Summer Nation to capture Alden.
In the fierce battle, over thirty experts died, but Larry ultimately defeated and captured Alden himself.
Alden was exceptionally powerful, standing out as Larry's true rival among all his formidable opponents in Southwild.
Cason nodded and said, "Alden is the founder of the Shadow Syndicate. Three years ago, he entered the Summer Nation, but his whereabouts were leaked, and the nation's top experts surrounded him. You were there in that battle. If it weren't for you, they might not have been able to capture Alden."
Larry took a deep breath. "I didn't expect Alden to be your leader, the founder of the Shadow Syndicate."
"That's right." Cason nodded. "Alden, the head of the Five Great Marshals, secretly imprisoned Alden. Many of the bounties on the dark web to kill you were issued by him. I captured you to force him to release Alden."
Cason's expression became serious.
"I don't know much about Alistair, but I know he wants you dead. I plan to use you to exchange for Alden. Alistair has agreed to bring Alden here before dawn, but I'm a bit uneasy."
"So, you want to cooperate with me?"
"Yes." Cason didn't deny it and nodded. "Three years ago, Alden returned to the Summer Nation to retire, but his whereabouts were leaked, and he was ambushed. I've been trying to rescue Alden all these years. Lyra joined you and sent me a message, trying to lure me into the Summer Nation. I saw an opportunity and decided to take a risk."
