Chapter 496 Paisley Appears
White Mountain.
The places where Alden hid his gold, silver, and jewelry were all in steep mountain forests with no flat ground, making it impossible for helicopters to land.
The helicopter landing spot was quite far from where the treasure was hidden.
Moreover, the mountain was full of old trees with tangled roots, making the paths difficult to navigate. They had to clear the way as they went.
What should have been a five-hour journey took Larry and his group a full eight or nine hours.
By the time they reached the cave where the treasure was hidden, it was already dark.
Alden pointed to the cave entrance ahead and said, "It's inside. Do you want to move it overnight, or rest and wait until tomorrow?"
"Can we transport everything in one trip?" Larry asked.
Alden glanced at the hundred people who came along and nodded, "Should be about right."
Larry thought for a moment.
The mountain paths were already difficult, and now it was nighttime. He didn't want to exhaust the soldiers who came with them, so he said, "Let's rest here. We'll move it tomorrow morning when it's light."
Howard immediately ordered, "Rest in place."
The many Free Army soldiers stopped to rest.
Larry looked at Alden and said, "Let's go in and take a look first."
"Okay."
Alden nodded.
Larry looked at Howard and instructed, "Mr. Cruz, you stay here and keep watch."
"Yes." Howard nodded.
Larry took a flashlight and entered the cave with Alden.
The cave entrance wasn't very large, surrounded by big trees whose branches concealed it. If you didn't look carefully, you wouldn't be able to find it at all. But once inside, it branched out in all directions.
Alden was very familiar with the routes here. He led Larry deeper and deeper. After walking for about an hour, they reached the underground depths.
They came to a stone wall.
Alden pointed at the stone wall and said, "Back then, I hired quite a few people to build a secret chamber down here underground."
As he spoke, he walked over and pushed hard.
The stone door instantly opened, and some dust fell down.
The two waved their hands to clear the air and walked in.
Larry shone his powerful flashlight inside the stone door.
The space inside wasn't very large. There were quite a few wooden boxes on the ground, covered in dust. Larry walked over and randomly opened one box.
Inside were some gold bars.
He picked one up and weighed it in his hand. It was heavy. He couldn't help but smile, "Not bad."
Alden looked at the large pile of boxes on the ground and sighed, "I caused too much killing in the first half of my life. I wanted this wealth to remain buried underground forever. I never thought I'd come back here again."
"This wealth will be used to save people, so it has some meaning," Larry joked with a smile.
"Alright, stop joking around. Let's go out first and come back in tomorrow morning."
"Okay."
Larry nodded.
Now that they'd seen the goods, they just needed to wait until morning to come in and take them back.
Once they got it back to Sunset City, they could find a way to convert it into money.
The two turned back.
On the way out, they picked up the pace. In less than ten minutes, they walked out of the cave.
When they came out, some trees had already been cut down, clearing an open area, and several fires had been lit.
Larry looked around and immediately reminded them, "Everyone be careful. This is a primeval forest. If a fire starts, we'll be in big trouble."
Howard stood up and said with a smile, "Don't worry, Larry. Everyone's watching. Nothing will go wrong."
"Still, be extra careful." Larry reminded them again.
There were too many fallen leaves in the mountains. If even a small spark appeared, it would ignite instantly, and putting out the fire would be difficult.
Howard gave the order again, shouting loudly, "Everyone stay alert and make sure the forest doesn't catch fire."
"Yes."
The group responded in unison.
Larry also sat down by a fire.
Immediately, a soldier walked over with a wild rabbit and handed it to Larry. "Dragon Lord, just caught this wild rabbit. Already gutted and cleaned. Roasted, it's really good."
Larry took it and smiled, "Thanks."
"No need to thank me."
After handing the rabbit to Larry, the soldier quickly left.
Larry skewered the rabbit and looked at Alden beside him, asking, "Alden, tell me about things from a hundred years ago."
Alden glanced at him and said, "I've already told you what I know. Although I'm a descendant of the Martin family, one of the three major Gu raising person clans, I don't know much about what happened a hundred years ago. What I know, my grandfather told me when I was young."
"You don't know the details?"
"I really don't." Alden shook his head.
Since he didn't know, Larry didn't ask anymore.
The two chatted about other things.
"Who's there?"
Larry suddenly shouted.
This shout caught everyone's attention.
Over a hundred soldiers stood up simultaneously, closely watching their surroundings.
"It's me."
A voice came.
As the voice sounded, a figure jumped down from a large tree in the distance.
It was a woman wearing a white casual outfit.
"Paisley?"
Seeing who it was, Larry was slightly stunned.
Paisley took a few steps and appeared in front of Larry, her pretty face smiling as she called out, "Larry."
Larry looked at her, and after confirming it was really her, asked, "What are you doing here?"
Paisley said with a smile, "Grandpa sent me. He knew Megan was bringing people here and was worried something might happen to you, so he told me to come check on you and bring you some things."
As she spoke, she took off a bundle from her back and handed it to Larry.
Larry took it with confusion and asked, "What is this? And who is Megan?"
Paisley explained, "Megan is Mr. Strother's final and most important disciple. She's extremely powerful. Mr. Strother is the person behind Alistair. Now that Alistair is dead, Mr. Strother sent Megan to Sunset City to take charge. The acquisition of many pharmaceutical companies is Megan's doing. Inside the bundle are some combat manuals that Grandpa copied from the Bennett family's library."
"What?"
Hearing about combat manuals, Alden's eyes instantly lit up. He cried out and stared eagerly at the white bundle in Larry's hands.
"Larry, quick... open it and look."
Larry rolled his eyes at Alden.
He wasn't interested in combat manuals.
What he was curious about was Megan.
"Paisley, you're saying Megan brought people to White Mountain?"
"Yes."
Paisley nodded, "The intelligence is very accurate."
"But why haven't we seen her? And what did she bring people here for?"
Paisley said, "Probably to stop you from taking the wealth back."
"Is she strong?"
Paisley shook her head and said, "We haven't fought, so I'm not sure, but she's at least at the second realm."
Whew!
Larry took a deep breath.
He hadn't expected the enemy to follow them to White Mountain. It looked like there would be a fierce battle at White Mountain.
He wasn't too worried about himself.
He was worried about the soldiers who came with them.
These people were all ordinary people. If Megan struck ruthlessly, they wouldn't be able to escape.
Larry sat down, his face grave as he thought.
After a while, he looked at Paisley and asked, "I heard that the Bennett family is about to form a marriage alliance with the Rivera family, and you're going to marry into the Rivera family. Is this true?"
