Chapter 272 Chloe Gets Kidnapped
After chatting for over an hour, everything was finally in place.
Now, Larry's only concern was Chloe.
Even though Lyra mentioned that assassins had a code—they only went after their targets and left innocents alone—Larry couldn't shake the worry.
If an assassin got caught harming an innocent, they'd be blacklisted by all the major guilds.
But this time felt different.
Some assassins, driven crazy by money, might go after Chloe.
"Valerian."
"Yeah, Larry?"
Larry gave his orders. "Send a hundred people to secretly guard Chloe. I don't want anything happening to her tonight."
"Got it."
Valerian got to work right away.
With his spy network, finding Chloe was a piece of cake.
A hundred seasoned members of the Black Dragon Army, dressed in plain clothes, quietly tailed Chloe and Abigail to keep Chloe safe.
Lyra headed to Flamecrest.
Larry waited in the underground secret room of the repair shop. As night fell, he made his way into the mountains, now less than a mile from Lyra's hiding spot. It was 8 PM.
At the Sunset City harbor, a boat docked quickly. A man in a black coat and hat got off. It was Cason, disguised with a human skin mask to look like an old man. The shore was packed.
"Cason."
As Cason approached, the crowd spoke in unison.
Cason waved slightly. "Is everyone here?"
"Yeah, the top ten assassins have all here, just waiting for your orders."
Cason pulled out his phone and sent a message to Lyra.
Lyra got the message and quickly replied, sending her exact location to Cason.
After getting the details, Cason's face twisted into a wicked smile. He then gave his orders. "Larry's at Flamecrest. Tell everyone to head there and take him out. Also, warn the assassins heading to Sunset City that Flamecrest is surrounded. Don't fall into a Black Dragon trap."
"Understood."
The subordinate went to spread the word.
Another person stepped up and asked, "What do we do now?"
Cason grinned wickedly and said, "We go after Chloe. Larry's biggest weak spot is Chloe. We can't kill her, but we can use her to pressure Larry."
"Got it."
At Flamecrest, under a big tree, Larry and Valerian sat together, smoking.
Larry got a message from Lyra. After reading it, he gave his orders. "Lyra's given the location. The Shadow Syndicate should be here soon, and the top ten assassins too. Spread the word: no one acts without orders. Don't blow your cover."
"Understood."
Valerian went to relay the instructions.
Meanwhile, at a restaurant in Sunset City, Abigail and Chloe, tired from shopping, were eating.
"Abigail," a voice called out.
Abigail turned to see a man walking towards her.
The guy looked about twenty-five or twenty-six, wearing a white suit, quite handsome, with a gentle and elegant vibe, very gentlemanly.
Abigail was a bit stunned, then recognized him and asked, "Brecken? Is that you?"
Brecken flashed a small smile. "Didn't think you'd recognize me. It's been years, and I didn't expect to see you back in Sunset City."
He then turned to Chloe. "And who might this lovely lady be?"
Abigail introduced her. "This is my best friend, Chloe."
Chloe gave a polite smile.
Brecken nodded. "As beautiful as her name. Mind if I join you?"
"Sure, have a seat."
Abigail smiled and then looked at Chloe. "Chloe, this is Brecken. We grew up in the same place but haven't seen each other in years."
Chloe spoke softly, "Hi, I'm Chloe."
Brecken greeted her with a smile.
At a nearby table, a few men were eating. They tensed up when they saw a stranger approach but relaxed when they saw Abigail knew him.
These men were from the Black Dragon Army, sent by Larry to protect Chloe. They'd stay hidden as long as she wasn't in danger.
Soon, dinner was over.
Outside the restaurant, Brecken smiled. "Thanks for the meal. Abigail, where are you staying? I'll give you a ride."
Abigail replied, "No need. We'll just grab a cab."
Brecken insisted, "Come on. You treated me to dinner; it's only fair I give you a ride."
Abigail thought for a moment and then nodded. "Alright, thanks."
"Let's go, my car's over here."
Brecken, driving an imported car, gestured for Abigail and Chloe to get in. Several people followed them.
Once Chloe was in, her secret protectors also got in. Brecken took the driver's seat.
Abigail commented, "Didn't expect you to have perfume in your car."
Brecken smiled slightly. He glanced at Abigail, then started the car and drove off.
Abigail felt dizzy and slumped in her seat.
Chloe in the back seat felt the same and slumped over.
Brecken tore off the human skin mask, revealing a rather ugly face. He took out his phone and called Cason, "It's done. Where to now?"
"You're being followed. Head towards the suburbs. When you reach the tunnel, I'll block them."
"Got it."
The man quickly drove towards the suburbs.
He soon reached the tunnel.
As soon as he entered, a large truck drove in and blocked the road, stopping the cars behind.
Those following Chloe immediately changed their expressions.
They quickly made a call.
"Something's wrong. Chloe's been taken. We're blocked in the tunnel."
Valerian got the call and his face darkened. He shouted, "No matter what, ensure Chloe's safety. If anything happens to her, you'll face military justice."
After cursing, Valerian dialed another number and instructed, "Activate the spy network immediately. Chloe's been taken. Last known location is the tunnel. Find her and track her phone."
Larry, standing nearby, heard both calls.
After Valerian gave his instructions, he turned to Larry, his expression serious. "Chloe's been taken."
Larry cursed, "A hundred Black Dragon Army members protecting her, and Chloe still got taken? What are you doing?"
At that moment, the entire process of Chloe getting into the car had been sent over.
Valerian quickly recounted the events.
"In five minutes, I need to know Chloe's location." Larry's face was terrifyingly grim.
