Chapter 344 The Mastermind Behind the Scenes
Things happened too quickly.
Idris didn't even have time to react, and many things were left unhandled.
He thought the Twenty-Eight Nations were just bluffing and wouldn't really attack Southwild, which is why he was caught off guard.
Larry didn't blame him either.
"If we can't find anything, let's head back first."
Larry turned and got into the car.
Idris and Frank followed closely behind.
Idris drove back to Aelsira.
By the time they returned to Aelsira, it was already noon.
To prevent another attack from the coalition of the Twenty-Eight Nations, Larry began to set up defenses against their attacks.
Once everything was prepared, he started to wait.
Larry's return to Southwild drew global attention, but several days passed without any movement from Southwild. The coalition of the Twenty-Eight Nations didn't launch another attack, and the Black Dragon Army didn't take any proactive actions.
Internationally, many military experts were analyzing this battle.
Three days later.
The people Larry had sent out all returned.
Although they were assassins, they would thoroughly investigate their targets before carrying out the assassination.
So their investigative skills were top-notch, and in just a few days, they had gathered all the information Larry had asked for.
Aelsira, military district, office.
Many assassins presented the information they had gathered.
Larry looked at it seriously.
Through this information, Larry learned that the people on the tour bus had all committed crimes, and before coming to the Summer Nation, their families' accounts had received a large sum of money.
From this, it was certain that this was a conspiracy.
Everyone found out that these people had met someone before coming to Southwild.
That person was Kairo.
The same Kairo who had killed the Sue tomb-raiding gang and stolen the box at Victor Veil's Tomb.
"So it was Kairo who contacted these people."
Larry frowned upon seeing the intelligence.
If that was the case, then the one secretly planning all this was Alistair.
Because Kairo was Alistair's man.
"Larry, this is the information on Gideon. According to the intelligence, Alistair's influence is worldwide. He has people in the Republic of Saelstan as well. It was because of Alistair's secret help that Gideon could rise so quickly from an ordinary soldier to the five-star general of the Republic of Saelstan."
Lyra shared the intelligence she had gathered.
Larry opened the information Lyra had found and read it carefully.
After reading, he said calmly, "Got it. You all must be tired. Go rest first, and I'll give you tasks after you've rested."
"Okay." Everyone left one after another.
Larry then called Frank and Idris.
Among the many generals in Southwild, he trusted these two the most.
He didn't trust the others much.
He was convinced that there were Alistair's people among them.
He just wasn't sure who.
Soon, Frank and Idris appeared.
"Dragon Lord." The two spoke in unison.
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "Please, sit."
The two sat down.
Frank asked, "Do we have any intelligence?"
"Yes," Larry nodded, "All the intelligence points to one person."
"Who?" Frank and Idris asked simultaneously.
"Alistair, the Supreme Commander of the Legion of Flame Surge," Larry said word by word.
"What?" Both of them exclaimed.
Frank looked shocked, "Alistair? How is that possible? He's from the Summer Nation. Did he plan this battle just to kill you?"
"I'm afraid it's far more complicated than that," Larry said with a serious expression.
He still didn't know what Alistair's ultimate goal was.
He knew that Alistair had been in action for a long time.
Last time in Cedar Grove, Frank was captured and forced to go there, where he encountered a joint assassination attempt by top fighters from the Twenty-Eight Nations. The mastermind behind this was Cormac.
And Cormac was also one of Alistair's men.
Valerian found out that Cormac and others had secretly set up a research facility in a neighboring city of Sunset City, guarded by soldiers who seemed to be from the Legion of Flame Surge.
Frank asked, "Dragon Lord, what do we do now?"
Larry fell into deep thought.
He believed that Alistair had a grand conspiracy, and his existence would hinder Alistair's plans.
But within the country, Alistair couldn't kill him.
To eliminate him, Alistair had orchestrated this elaborate scheme to ensure he died on the battlefield, so the leaders of the Summer Nation wouldn't investigate or suspect him.
After a moment, he spoke, "Now that we know who's behind this, it's much easier to handle. Alistair's goal is just to kill me. This time, the Twenty-Eight Nations have sent their troops, led by their generals. If we kill these generals, they will naturally retreat, thus resolving the crisis in Southwild."
"Kill the generals of the Twenty-Eight Nations?"
Frank and Idris were both shocked.
Idris, with a serious expression, said, "Dragon Lord, you're oversimplifying things. The generals of the Twenty-Eight Nations are all in Southwild, and Southwild is garrisoned by three million coalition troops. Not even a fly can get in. How do we kill them?"
Larry said calmly, "Where there's a will, there's a way. Frank, you're still not fully recovered, so you won't be going this time. Stay here and heal. Frank, you guard Aelsira."
Frank frowned and said, "Dragon Lord, Southwild is very dangerous right now. Their goal is to kill you. That's why they've revealed so much intelligence, making it easy for your people to find out. If you go to Southwild, you'll be walking right into their trap."
Idris nodded, "Yes, Dragon Lord, going to Southwild now is suicidal."
"Even so, I must go."
Larry knew it was dangerous to go to Southwild to kill the generals of the Twenty-Eight Nations.
But he had to go.
If this could resolve the battle, it would be far better than a full-scale war.
In a war, people die, and countless lives would be lost.
He didn't want to see more fighting or bloodshed.
Idris hesitated slightly and asked, "Dragon Lord, what if you can't come back? What should we do?"
"If I can't come back, then use armed forces to forcibly reclaim Southwild and give the people of the Summer Nation an explanation. Their main goal is to kill me. If I really die, the coalition of the Twenty-Eight Nations won't continue fighting and will retreat quickly. This way, the Black Dragon Army can easily reclaim Southwild."
Frank and Idris both knew that once Larry made a decision, no one could change it.
Frank reminded, "Dragon Lord, be careful."
Larry smiled faintly and said, "Don't worry, I'll be fine. This time, I won't be going alone. I'll bring the assassins we recruited in Sunset City. These are the top fighters on the assassin list. In a one-on-one fight, they can battle me for a long time. If they all go together, even I can't beat them."
With Larry's assurance, the two felt relieved.
Larry got up and left.
In a house in Aelsira.
Many people were gathered there.
There were old and young, men and women.
At this moment, the door opened.
Larry, wearing a black trench coat, walked in.
"Larry."
"Larry." Everyone greeted him.
Larry looked at the many assassins, his gaze sweeping over each of them.
"I'm planning to infiltrate Southwild to kill the generals of the Twenty-Eight Nations and resolve this crisis. I intend to take you with me, but I won't force you. It's very dangerous, and you might not come back alive."
"Think it over. If you want to go with me, then come. If not, return to Sunset City and work for Sue. She will continue to pay your salaries."
