Chapter 97 Keep It Low-key
"What's going on? Why did they suspend services without any reason?"
"Today is both my girlfriend's and my birthday. We planned to get our marriage license today. What's the deal?"
Many peoplestarted to complain.
Larry was in a great mood.
This feeling was even better than winning a battle.
He walked to the side of the road and got into Frank's car. "Frank, let's go."
"Mr. Bennett, where to go? Imperial Residence or the clinic?"
"To the clinic, to sleep." Larry yawned.
He drank a lot last night, stayed up late, and was still a bit tired.
"Okay." Frank drove to Mortal Clinic.
The divorce didn't go through, so Chloe went to the company to continue handling business.
Meanwhile, Larry slept until noon.
On Dragon Street, where Mortal Clinic was located, at a barbecue joint, Larry had one foot on a stool, gnawing on a roasted chicken wing. "Frank, dragging out this divorce isn't a solution. Can you think of something?"
"I have no idea." Frank was frustrated; he wasn't exactly experienced in relationships.
"Wait." He suddenly had a brainwave. "Mr. Bennett, Victor's 80th birthday is coming up. If you can make Victor feel respected at his birthday party, he'll be happy and might approve of you. I've heard that Chloe cares a lot about her family's opinion. If Victor doesn't want the divorce, she'll definitely listen."
Larry's eyes lit up, and he slapped the table. "Great idea! You're truly my good friend, always solving my problems. So, how do I make Victor happy?"
Frank said seriously, "The Lewis family likes to be respected. If Free King attends Victor's 80th birthday party, the Lewis family will feel very honored. If Victor knows that it was you invite Free King, he'll look at you differently."
"That makes sense." Larry nodded.
"But I just want a peaceful life. I don't want everyone to know my identity. If word gets out, I'll be met with reverent looks everywhere I go. That's no fun."
"Well, in that case, I have no idea." Frank shook his head and picked up a fork, focusing on his food.
Larry was also pondering, thinking about how to give Victor dignity without revealing his identity as Black Dragon.
"Got it." He had a sudden inspiration. "I can use my identity as a member of the Bennett family."
Frank gave him a puzzled look.
Larry said, "Besides being Black Dragon, I'm also a member of the Bennett family. Ten years ago, the Bennett family was the top family in Sunset City. There were no Four Great Families back then. My grandfather Richard had many friends. If I appear with this identity, it will not only give the Lewis family dignity but also let Chloe know that I'm the masked man who saved her."
"Mr. Bennett, be cautious," Frank reminded, "In a few days, you'll be settling scores with the Four Great Families. It might not be a bloodbath, but many people will die. If Chloe knows your hands are stained with blood, she won't dare to be with you."
"Right." Larry nodded. "I can't do that. But what should I do?"
Frank shook his head.
These two, one a five-star general of Southwild, the other a one-star general, had never been so troubled, even when facing thousands of enemies. Now, they were at their wits' end over Chloe.
For Chloe, Larry was willing to go all out.
After lunch, he took a cab directly to the Lewis family mansion.
He rang the doorbell.
Victor's granddaughter Julia opened the door. When she saw Larry, she crossed her arms and frowned. "I wondered who it was. It turns out it's Larry!. What are you doing here?"
Larry was there to see Victor and didn't want to waste time with Julia. "Is Victor home?"
"Yes, but you know your status. You're just a dog of the Lewis family. If you want to come in, fine, crawl in."
"Julia, who is it?" Oscar came out and saw Larry at the door. He immediately smiled. "Larry, what a rare guest."
"I need to see Victor. I have something important to discuss with him," Larry said.
Oscar said arrogantly, "Julia is right. You're just a dog of the Lewis family. If you want to enter the Lewis family mansion, you have to crawl in."
He was here to welcome someone.
His younger sister, who married into a prominent family in Neon City, was coming back, and Oscar had to personally welcome her.
Stella Lewis was Harry's youngest daughter and Julia's sister.
Over half a year ago, Stella married into a prestigious family in Neon City, whose status in Neon City was comparable to the Four Great Families in Sunset City.
Stella's husband, Chris Ortiz was also very capable. Even though he wasn't a direct descendant of the Ortiz family in Neon City, he was in the SWAT team and was now a deputy captain, wielding significant power.
This time, for Victor's 80th birthday, Stella specifically brought her husband back to celebrate with Victor.
Oscar didn't expect Larry showed up instead.
At that moment, a luxury car worth around a hundred thousand dollars drove up and stopped at the mansion's entrance.
A man and a woman got out of the car.
The woman looked to be in her twenties, wearing a bright and colorful dress.
The man looked almost forty, slightly overweight, with a protruding belly.
The woman was Stella.
The man was Chris, a member of the prestigious Ortiz family in Neon City and now a deputy captain of a SWAT team in Neon City.
"Stella, Chris." Seeing the two arrive, Oscar's expression immediately changed. He hurried over, smiling. "Stella, it's been over half a year. Victor often misses you. Chris, you finally made it. I heard you got promoted to deputy captain, right?"
Stella, holding the arm of the man in his forties, smiled happily. "Being a deputy captain is nothing. The Ortiz family's status in Neon City is beyond your imagination. With the Ortiz family's network, Chris will soon become the captain of the SWAT team."
"Keep it low-key." Chris glanced at Stella, reminding her, "I've told you many times to be low-key outside. Don't always mention my position as deputy captain. It's nothing. My uncle, Daniel Ortiz, is the impressive one. He's a secretary to a general in the Neon City military district. That's real power."
Oscar already knew the Ortiz family was powerful but didn't realize they were this influential, with connections in the Neon City military district, and a general's secretary at that.
"Chris, come in. You must tell me about the glorious deeds of the Ortiz family." Oscar personally invited Chris inside.
Julia had already gone in to inform Victor.
"Chris, you finally made it." Victor came out smiling.
"Victor," Chris greeted.
"Chris, did you promote to deputy captain?"
"Victor, keep it low-key. Being a deputy captain is nothing. My uncle Daniel is the impressive one. He got promoted after Free King took over. Free King thinks highly of Daniel and promised that within five years, he would become the third most powerful person in the Neon City military district."
"Yes, keep it low-key." Victor couldn't stop smiling.
"Victor..." Larry also called out.
Victor finally noticed Larry, his smile freezing, his face slightly darkening. "What do you want?"
Larry smiled. "Victor, I'm here to discuss the venue for your 80th birthday. I think the Sunset City Hotel doesn't match your status."
Oscar immediately shouted, "Larry, what did you say? The Sunset City Hotel doesn't match Victor's status? Are you saying Victor isn't qualified to hold his 80th birthday banquet at the Sunset City Hotel?"
Victor's face also showed displeasure as he glared at Larry. "Larry, get out."
"Victor, who is this?" Stella glanced at Larry.
Stella had married into Neon City over half a year ago and hadn't been back recently, so she hadn't met Larry.
Julia sneered, "He's the son-in-law the Lewis family brought in, Chloe's husband."
Larry couldn't care less about their ridicule. He walked up to Victor and whispered something in his ear.
"What?" Victor's body trembled, and he exclaimed, "Really?"
