Chapter 265 Self-Rescue
Larry figured it was pretty unlikely.
Cormac was just a doctor, and even though Athendonis was one of the twenty-eight countries, it was tiny and definitely not the brains behind the Battle of Cedar Grove.
Or maybe someone was pulling his strings.
Larry shook his head, trying to shove those tangled thoughts aside.
He closed his eyes to rest.
Chloe kept her eyes on the road.
They got to Medical Street in no time.
The medical conference was kicking off today, so Medical Street was buzzing, and no cars were allowed.
All the nearby parking lots were jam-packed, so Chloe had to park further away and grab a cab to Medical Street.
The place was swarming with people.
Chloe tugged Larry along, but he was moving at a snail's pace, like a puppet on strings.
"Babe, are you sure you're okay? Do you need to see a doctor?"
Chloe looked at Larry, whose face was stiff and blank, like a wooden statue. She was really worried.
Larry barely moved his lips and said, "No need. The Lewis family and the Everjoy Clinic are open again. Take me to Everjoy. I know how to get rid of the toxins in my blood. Once they're out, I'll be fine."
"Okay," Chloe said.
She helped Larry as they headed to Everjoy Clinic.
But Larry was moving way too slow.
"Babe, let me carry you."
"No way. There are too many people. I don't want to draw any attention."
"It's fine."
Chloe squatted down, signaling Larry to hop on her back.
Larry thought about it. In his current state, it would take forever to walk to Everjoy Clinic. After a moment, he climbed onto Chloe's back.
Chloe struggled to stand up with Larry on her back.
The street was packed with people and reporters.
A lot of folks noticed them; some pointed and whispered, while others pulled out their phones to record. Chloe didn't care at all.
She carried Larry and moved quickly. Half an hour later, they finally reached Everjoy Clinic.
The clinic was indeed open again, and the Lewis family members were all there. But the doctors they had hired before had quit and gone to other clinics.
Chloe set Larry down at the entrance.
She was panting hard, her pretty face covered in sweat. She looked at Larry with a hint of annoyance. "You're so heavy, I'm beat."
Larry sat on the doorstep, slowly took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag.
Victor came out, saw them, and couldn't help but ask, "Larry, what's up?"
Larry slowly replied, "Nothing."
All the young members of the Lewis family came out.
Seeing other clinics packed with people while Everjoy Clinic was empty, Adam couldn't help but sigh and said, "The Carters and Martinezes are really screwing over the Lewis family and Everjoy Company. Last year, we made $30 million in the first three days of the medical conference. This year, it looks like we won't make a dime."
Larry had a general idea of how the medical conference worked.
The medical conference drew people from all over the world to Sunset City's Medical Street for treatment.
All the major clinics would pull out all the stops to treat people.
The first three days were for treating patients.
The competition part of the medical conference would start on the fourth day.
Medical Street had over ten thousand clinics of all sizes, but not all were qualified to compete in the medical competition; only those with good performance in the first three days could participate..
All patient visits would be meticulously recorded in the system.
After three days, the ranking would be determined based on the number of patients treated and votes from people across the country. Only the top 100 would qualify for the final medical competition.
The number of patients treated made up 50%, and the national votes made up the other 50%.
They combined the two rankings.
Hearing Adam's complaint, Larry said slowly, "It's fine. With me here, Everjoy Clinic is gonna blow everyone's minds this time. Help me inside; I need to whip up some medicine."
Chloe was still catching her breath. Hearing him, she quickly helped Larry up and supported him into the clinic.
The Lewis family members watched Larry, who was moving stiffly and slowly, with puzzled looks.
What was going on?
Inside the clinic, Larry sat down.
"Chloe, help me take off my clothes."
"Okay."
Chloe did as he asked.
"And the pants too."
Chloe was taken aback, her face turning a bit red. "Honey, what are you trying to do?"
"Just do it."
"Alright."
Chloe took off Larry's pants, leaving him in just his underwear.
"Get the silver needles for me."
"Okay."
Chloe quickly went to get the silver needles.
The Lewis family members gathered around, looking at the almost-undressed Larry with confusion.
Oscar sneered. "Larry, what kind of nonsense are you up to now?"
Larry ignored Oscar.
Soon, Chloe came back with the silver needles. "Honey, I got the silver needles."
Larry asked, "Do you remember the book I asked you to read a while ago?"
"Not really."
"Then go find that book."
Chloe didn't know what Larry was planning, but Everjoy Clinic had plenty of books on the subject. She quickly went to find the book.
After finding it, she brought it to Larry.
"Now, take the silver needles and follow my instructions. I'll tell you where to insert them."
"Don't insert them too deep, just enough for the needle tips to enter the skin."
Chloe had never done this before. Hearing Larry's instructions, she picked up the silver needles, quickly flipped through the book, and hesitated for a long time before making a move.
"Honey, I'm scared."
"It's okay, just do it."
Chloe took a deep breath and carefully inserted the needles into Larry's body.
Larry kept giving instructions.
Chloe carefully checked the book and then followed Larry's guidance seriously.
Soon, Larry's body was covered with silver needles.
However, the needles were crooked, looking a bit odd.
"Honey, what now?"
Larry closed his eyes.
He was sensing the flow of his blood.
"Sweetie, squeeze my wrist, hold it for five seconds, then release."
Larry kept instructing Chloe.
Chloe followed his instructions.
Slowly, blue liquid began to appear on the silver needles on Larry's body.
This was the poison he had ingested earlier. Now, using the silver needles, he had blocked the meridian points and was expelling the blue toxins.
"Alright, quickly remove the needles."
"Okay."
Chloe swiftly removed the needles.
After the needles were out, Larry stood up and stretched his muscles.
Although his movements were still a bit stiff, he felt much better.
He grabbed a pen and paper, quickly wrote a prescription, and handed it to Chloe. "Prepare the herbs according to this list and then brew them. By tomorrow at the latest, I should be fully recovered and able to move freely."
"Okay." Chloe nodded, then hesitated. "But the doctors at Everjoy Clinic have all quit. I don't know how to prepare it."
"Give it to me."
Victor, who had been watching for a while, stepped forward and took the prescription from Chloe's hand.
Victor used to be a doctor. Although he wasn't an expert, he could handle simple herb preparation.
The other Lewis family members looked at Larry.
What was he up to?
"Larry, what is this?" Jack couldn't help but ask.
Larry smiled faintly and said, "Someone didn't want me to participate in the medical conference and forced me to take poison, causing me to lose my sense of taste temporarily and making my movements stiff."
