Chapter 11 The Cost of Breaking Up
"Artwork of Moonlit," Larry murmured softly.
This was the Bennett Family's heirloom painting.
Before Larry's grandfather passed away, he told him that the Bennett Family could perish, but the painting must not be lost.
For the past ten years, Larry had never forgotten this.
"Frank, get ready. We will take action tonight."
"Ok." Frank nodded.
"Alright, you can go now. My wife is about to get off work. She doesn't like me hanging out with shady people, and you don't look like a good person. If she sees you, she'll scold me again."
Frank's expression stiffened.
He thought, 'Although I'm a bit darker, I'm still a good person.'
"Why are you standing there? Get lost." Larry kicked him.
Frank turned and left.
Larry checked the time; it was almost time for Chloe to get off work.
He pushed his electric scooter and walked toward the exit of Lewis's Dayjoy Group. Before he got there, he saw a woman walking out of a building.
The woman was 6 feet tall, dressed in professional attire: a white shirt, a black pencil skirt, and red high heels.
She had chestnut-colored wavy hair, carried a briefcase, and walked with a fashionable and confident air.
"Chloe."
A man approached, holding a bouquet of flowers. "Chloe, these are for you. Are you free tonight? I reserved a spot at Tipsy Fairy Restaurant and would like to have dinner with you."
The man giving the flowers was Ben Johnson, from one of Sunset City's Four Great Families, the Johnson Family.
Since Chloe secured the Legion Lord's order and her relationship with Legion Lord's chairman Leo was revealed, the Lewis Family's reputation had soared, and the restored Chloe had become the most beautiful woman in Sunset City.
As the newly appointed executive chairman of the Everjoy Company, her business acumen was impressive. In just half a month, she managed the company very well.
Her fame grew, and she was known as the most beautiful CEO in Sunset City.
Although she had a husband, Larry's reputation in Sunset City was poor. The rich men ignored Larry and continued to pursue Chloe.
At this moment, Chloe saw Larry pushing his electric scooter and walking over. She smiled beautifully, ignored Ben, walked over, and kissed Larry in public, then intimately held his arm.
"Larry, this guy wants to take me to Tipsy Fairy Restaurant for dinner. I've never been there."
"If he invites you, you should go. If possible, take me also. I've never been there either."
Ben's face darkened at this scene. He walked over and said coldly, "Larry, I'm Ben from the Johnson Family. I'll give you $100,000 to leave Chloe!"
After saying that, he handed over a card.
"Chloe, should I take it?"
"Up to you," Chloe said with a playful smile. "I think you should take it. $100,000 should be enough for a meal in a diamond room at Tipsy Fairy Restaurant."
"Then I'll take it."
Larry smiled, took the card from Ben, and asked, "By the way, what's the password?"
Ben raised his head and said, "The password is six zeros. Take the money and get lost. From now on, you have nothing to do with Chloe."
"Alright, we'll get divorced when we get back." Larry nodded and said, "Chloe, get on."
Chloe got on the back of the electric scooter, wrapped her arms around Larry's waist, and they left under Ben's bewildered gaze.
Ben was stunned. After a while, he realized he had been tricked. He angrily threw the flowers on the ground and cursed at the departing Larry, "Damn it, I'll teach you a lesson!"
Larry rode the electric scooter and took Chloe home.
Back at home, she sat on the sofa, stretched out her fair hand, and smiled at Larry.
"What?" Larry tightly covered his pocket and said, "This is my breakup fee from Ben."
"Give it to me!" Chloe said sternly, "You spend my money. You don't need this money. I'll save this $100,000 for future expenses like having and raising kids."
Reluctantly, Larry took out the card and said unwillingly, "Chloe, this has happened several times. In the past ten days, the breakup fees from others have totaled over $300,000. This money should be mine."
"What money?"
A voice came from the door.
Hearing the voice, Chloe quickly hid the card Larry handed over and said hurriedly, "Nothing."
Maria walked over and said coldly, "You dare to hide things from me? I heard everything at the door. Hand it over!"
Chloe said, "Mom, it's nothing!"
Larry nodded. "Yes, really, nothing."
Maria scolded, "I'm talking to my daughter. It's none of your business. Look at the time. Go and make dinner!"
Larry immediately turned and went to the kitchen to cook.
After busying himself in the kitchen for half an hour, he came out, and the family had dinner together.
After dinner, Larry pulled Chloe into the room and asked quietly, "Chloe, you didn't tell her, did you?"
Chloe said discontentedly, "It's all your fault. Why were you so loud? My mom took all the money, saying she raised me for over twenty years and now that I'm working, I should give her retirement money!"
"What? You gave it all?" Larry's eyes widened.
Recently, Larry was really short on money.
He had married into the Lewis Family, had no job, and no money. Even his cigarette money was given by Frank.
Chloe said helplessly, "Yes, I gave it all. Mr. Jones's $10,000 breakup fee, Mr. Williams's $30,000, Mr. Foster's $30,000, and Mr. Johnson's $50,000, all taken by my mom."
Larry sighed. "I hope when I pick you up tomorrow, there will be another rich guy pursuing you and giving me a few thousand dollars. Chloe, send me a few hundred dollars on WhatsApp. I'm out of money for cigarettes."
"I don't believe you. Last time I washed your clothes, I saw a black card in your pocket. Don't tell me there's no money in it. Hand it over. I'll keep it!" Chloe reached out, asking Larry for the card.
Larry took out the black card.
The card was entirely black, with a Black Dragon on it, and no card number.
Chloe hadn't looked closely when she did the laundry last time. Now, seeing it, she asked, "What kind of bank card is this? Why doesn't it have a card number?"
"Well..." Larry said nervously, "This is a co-branded card from major banks. It can be used at any bank. And with today's advanced technology, card numbers aren’t necessary anymore. It's all tied to identity chips now."
Chloe looked skeptical but took the card, asking, "What's the password, and how much is in it?"
"The password is eight eights. As for the money, not much."
"Liar," Chloe scolded. "There's no such thing as an eight-digit bank card password."
"I remembered wrong. It's six eights." Larry smiled awkwardly.
In reality, the card had no PIN. Any number entered would work.
This Black Dragon Card was unique in the country, a symbol of status and power. As for the money, he didn't know how much was in it because he had never withdrawn any.
However, it was earned through ten years of military service and honor, so it should be a lot. However, at his level, money wasn't important, and he didn't care how much was in the card.
Now, even if he gave it to Chloe, he didn't mind because without Chloe, he wouldn't had survived from that fire. Everything he had was because of Chloe.
