Chapter 202 Renowned Worldwide
Southwild, Military District Hospital.
Frank got wheeled into the OR. Larry himself did a full check-up on him. Frank's bones? Totally busted. Tendons in his hands and feet? Snapped. His brain? Took a nasty hit, leaving him with a serious concussion and nerve damage. And he had some bullet holes too.
Thanks to Larry's acupuncture magic, Frank was still hanging on. Otherwise, he'd be toast.
Even for a miracle worker like Larry, fixing Frank up was gonna be tough.
Now that things were under control, Larry could go all-in on saving Frank.
As long as Frank was breathing, Larry was sure he could pull it off.
"Prep for surgery!" Larry got to work on Frank.
First up, those shattered bones. Frank was in such bad shape that this surgery was gonna take a while. It went on for over twenty hours, from morning till the next evening. Finally, it was done.
Frank was still in the danger zone. For the next ten days, Larry had to stick by his side, doing acupuncture, checking him out, and giving him meds.
Larry walked out of the OR. From Cedar Grove till now, he hadn't slept for two days.
Plus, he'd been fighting non-stop in Cedar Grove, which had wiped him out.
After the surgery, he was beat. Outside the OR, a bunch of high-ranking military folks from Southwild were waiting.
"Commander."
As Larry walked out, they all saluted him. Larry weakly waved them off, "Skip the formalities, we're in a crisis."
Idris said, "Generals from different countries have been captured and brought to Southwild. Now, these small countries are pressuring Summer Nation to let them go."
"Let them go?" Larry's face turned dark.
"No way. They gotta pay ransom, ten times the usual amount."
"General, the Cedar Grove battle is all over the news. The international community is still dealing with it. Will the enemy countries agree to pay ten times the ransom?"
"Just do what I said." Larry plopped down on a chair in the hallway outside the OR and reached for a cigarette, but he was out.
Idris quickly handed him one and lit it for him.
He asked, "By the way, how's General Frank doing?"
Larry leaned back, took a deep drag, and said, "As long as I'm here, he won't die. Any word from the top about Cedar Grove?"
Idris shook his head, "Nope."
"Good." Larry nodded, "That's good. Follow my orders: demand ten times the ransom, give one-tenth to the country, and send the rest to my account. Now I need some rest. Keep a close eye on Frank, and wake me if anything happens."
Idris nodded, "Yes, sir."
Larry got up and headed to the hospital's rest area. After a few steps, he turned around and said, "Get me a new phone and swap out my SIM card."
With that, Larry left. He was dead tired and needed sleep.
The next ten days were crucial for Frank's shaky condition. Larry had to do acupuncture on him daily to keep him alive, using meds to speed up the healing of Frank's bones and organs.
The Southwild battle was already all over the world.
The internet was buzzing with news about it.
[Black Dragon shows up at Southwild's Cedar Grove, takes on masters from 28 countries.]
[All 28 foreign masters killed at Cedar Grove.]
[28 countries send an army of 100,000 to hunt down Black Dragon at Cedar Grove.]
[After a day and night of fighting, Black Dragon storms the HQ of the 28 countries and captures their generals alive.]
[Summer Nation's guardian war god is none other than Southwild's Black Dragon.]
[No longer the commander, Black Dragon will always be Summer Nation's warlord and my hero.]
There were tons of reports about the battle online.
The Lewis family.
Chloe hadn't left the house for the past two days. She was super into the news about Black Dragon.
She browsed all kinds of military forums filled with rumors and no real battle footage, making her doubt the reports were legit.
"Why'd he go back to Southwild?"
"Sam!" Chloe spun around to face Sam.
Sam, lounging on the couch, snapped to attention, his body stiffening as he stood up, sweat already beading on his forehead.
Chloe wanted to grill him about the stuff she saw online.
But seeing Sam acting all weird, she frowned and asked, "What's up with you? You've been acting all sketchy these past two days."
"Nothing." Sam quickly plopped back down. For two days, he hadn't dared to spill the beans.
He couldn't bring himself to admit he'd swiped $500 million from Chloe's account or that he'd borrowed $800 million at sky-high interest rates.
Plus, no one had come knocking in the past two days, so he clung to a shred of hope.
Chloe didn't seem to suspect a thing.
She got up and walked over to Sam, sitting down next to him. "There's a ton of buzz online about Black Dragon. They say he went to Southwild and threw down with masters from twenty-eight countries in Cedar Grove. Is that for real?"
"I dunno." Sam mumbled, barely paying attention.
"Alright then." Chloe didn't push it. She got up and left the house.
Once outside, she tried calling the mysterious Mr. Bennett, who was also Black Dragon.
"Sorry! The subscriber you dialed is powered off." No luck.
She thought for a moment and then called Abigail.
Abigail had just gotten to the office when she got Chloe's call at 8 AM.
"Chloe, what's up?"
Even though Abigail was kinda ticked at Chloe, she wasn't too mad since they were friends.
"Abigail, is the stuff online true? Did Black Dragon really go to Southwild and have a life-or-death battle in Cedar Grove, surrounded by an army of a hundred thousand?"
Abigail had heard the rumors yesterday. She didn't know what was true. "How would I know?"
Chloe asked again, "By the way, have you seen Larry in the past two days? I've been trying to call him, but his phone's off."
Abigail replied, "I haven't had time to see him. He's probably forgotten all about me. The company's swamped, and I'm working overtime till midnight every day. I don't have time to reach out to him. I'm really busy right now, so let's catch up during lunch break."
Abigail was indeed super busy and hung up right away.
Chloe then took a cab to The Serpent Group, hoping to see Larry.
But William told her Larry wasn't there. Meanwhile, back at the Lewis Residence, the front door had been busted open.
A group of burly dudes barged in.
Sam was getting the crap beaten out of him, his head bleeding as he lay on the ground, crying out in pain.
On the couch sat a middle-aged fat guy, Daniel Hawthorne.
He was rocking a black short-sleeved shirt, a gold chain around his neck, and a cigar in his mouth.
"Sam, today's the third day. The interest is already up to $600 million. Including the principal, that's $1.4 billion. When are you planning to pay up?"
Daniel's face was full of malice.
Sam lay on the ground, crying out in pain and begging, "Daniel, please let me go. I really have no money."
"What?"
Alexander instantly blew up, standing up and stomping on Sam.
"You still gamble without money? No money, and you borrow high-interest loans?"
With a stomp, Sam felt excruciating pain.
Chloe went to The Serpent Group but didn't see Larry. She came back home disappointed, only to hear painful cries coming from inside before she even got in.
She quickly walked into the house.
She saw a bunch of strangers inside, and Sam was lying on the ground with someone stepping on his chest.
She was instantly furious.
"What the hell are you doing? Why are you in my house?"
Chloe's voice caught everyone's attention.
Alexander looked at Chloe as she walked in, his eyes scanning her from head to toe.
He'd heard of Chloe before, known as the most beautiful woman in Sunset City, and today he saw she really lived up to the hype.
Before, no one dared to mess with her under Black Dragon's protection.
Now that Black Dragon had stepped down, she was on her own.
Alexander looked at Chloe and smirked, "So this is Chloe. Sam borrowed $800 million in high-interest loans from me. The daily interest is $200 million. It's day three now, so you owe $1.4 billion. I'll give you one more day to gather the money. If you can't, don't blame me for being ruthless."
With that, Alexander turned and left with his men.
Chloe stood there, stunned.
"$800 million in high-interest loans?"
"$1.4 billion with interest?"
