Chapter 145 Debt Collection
Chloe learned that the company still had four million dollars in unpaid invoices, so she immediately sought out the relevant documents and began to review them carefully.
She first looked at the order agreement between the Everlasting Group and CloudPharma. The agreement noted that with each delivery, a portion of the payment would be made until 50% was paid, at which point payments would be paused. Once the subsequent orders were completed, if there were no issues with the goods, the remaining 50% would be settled in one lump sum.
The Everlasting Group had fulfilled many orders from CloudPharma for the first half of the year. However, CloudPharma later refused to pay the remaining balance, claiming there were quality issues with the products.
As a result, the Everlasting Group filed a lawsuit against CloudPharma. But CloudPharma, being a large company with a professional legal team, presented a series of evidence regarding the quality issues in court. The Everlasting Group lost the lawsuit and the company had been in crisis since then.
Chloe frowned as she reviewed these documents. It seemed that recovering the four million dollars would be difficult. But no matter how difficult, she had to try. She immediately instructed Drake to arrange for a driver to take her to CloudPharma.
CloudPharma was a large corporation, though not as famous as Legion Lord, the Everlife Group, or the Lirena Group. But in Sunset City, it was considered a major company, ranking in the top twenty.
The CloudPharma headquarters was located in an eight-story building.
Chloe approached the front desk, inquiring, "Hello, I'm Chloe Lewis from the Everlasting Group. I have some business matters and would like to meet with the person in charge at CloudPharma."
The receptionist glanced at Chloe. As a resident of Sunset City, she knew Chloe. Currently, Chloe was a hot topic of conversation and there were many discussions about her.
The receptionist said, "Ms. Lewis, aren't you the chairperson of the Everjoy Company? Why are you representing the Everlasting Group at CloudPharma? Aren't you on good terms with people from Legion Lord, the Everlife Group, and other corporations? What are you doing at CloudPharma? CloudPharma doesn't have any orders for you."
Legion Lord and the Everlife Group might owe Chloe favors, but CloudPharma did not. Even the receptionist looked down on Chloe a bit.
'She's just a bit lucky to have saved someone from the Bennett family ten years ago. What's there to be so arrogant about?' the reception thought.
Chloe patiently said, "Can you help me contact the person in charge at CloudPharma?"
"There are many people in charge at CloudPharma. Do you want to see a department manager, the general manager, the executive president, or the chairman?" The receptionist looked at Chloe with a hint of disdain and said, "Do you think you can just see the person in charge at CloudPharma whenever you want?"
"I want to see the executive president of CloudPharma, Edward Thompson."
"Do you have an appointment?"
"No."
"Sorry, without an appointment, you can't see him. Please leave." Although the receptionist looked down on Chloe, she knew Chloe was acquainted with many important people, so she didn't make things too difficult and simply asked her to leave.
Chloe was quite disappointed. Just as she was leaving, someone walked out. It was a man in his thirties, dressed in a black suit with slicked-back hair, followed by four burly bodyguards in suits and sunglasses.
The receptionist immediately approached the man and said respectfully, "Mr. Thompson, Chloe Lewis just came to see you, claiming to represent the Everlasting Group. It must be about the lawsuit, so I turned her away."
"Chloe Lewis from the Everlasting Group?" Edward was slightly taken aback.
The receptionist pointed to Chloe, who had not yet exited the building, and said, "She hasn't left the building yet."
"Alright, got it." Edward waved his hand slightly and then walked over, calling out, "Are you Ms. Lewis?"
Chloe heard her name being called, turned around, and saw a rather handsome man in his thirties approaching. She nodded. "Yes, I am. And you are?"
Edward extended his hand and said, "Hello, Ms. Lewis. I'm Edward Thompson, the executive president of CloudPharma."
Chloe's face lit up with joy, and she immediately shook his hand. However, Edward held onto her hand and didn't let go for a while.
Chloe quickly pulled her hand back. Edward looked at Chloe, thinking, 'She is indeed very beautiful. No wonder the media has named her the most beautiful woman in Sunset City.'
He had heard of Chloe, knowing she had good relationships with many important figures. Others might fear these people, but he did not.
"Chloe, are you here representing the Everlasting Group?" He scrutinized Chloe from head to toe, a look of satisfaction on his face.
Chloe said, "Yes, Mr. Thompson. I am now the chairwoman of the Everlasting Group. I believe we need to sit down and discuss some disputes regarding our cooperation."
"Is that so? Then let's go to my office." Edward made a gesture inviting her in.
Chloe did not refuse. She followed Edward to the president's office.
Inside the office, Chloe sat on the sofa. Edward sat across from her, unabashedly staring at her. Seeing her sexy figure, he couldn't help but gulp.
"Ms. Lewis, what is your main purpose for coming here today?" He had a playful smile on his face.
Chloe replied, "Mr. Thompson, our Everlasting Group has always strictly adhered to pharmaceutical production standards, and we have never had any issues for decades. Your company, however, has refused to pay the four million dollars balance, citing quality problems."
Edward waved his hand slightly, interrupting Chloe, and said, "Oh, you're talking about that. Yes, that batch of pharmaceuticals did have issues. CloudPharma had it verified by an authoritative institution. We were quite lenient and didn't hold the Everlasting Group accountable because of our long-term cooperation."
Chloe had come to ask for money. Edward, however, didn't mention it at all and even said they didn't hold them accountable. With one sentence, he blocked everything Chloe was about to say.
Chloe continued, "Mr. Thompson..."
Edward raised his hand again, stopping Chloe. "Ms. Lewis, the court has already made a ruling on this matter. If you think there's an issue, you can appeal to a higher court. Today, let's not talk about this. Let's talk about money. Is the Everlasting Group short on funds recently? If so, I can personally lend you some, as long as you're the one asking."
"Mr. Thompson, is there really no room for negotiation?"
"Don't you understand what I'm saying?" Edward's face darkened, and he said coldly, "I said, don't bring this up again."
"In that case, I'll see you in court." Chloe stood up to leave. She opened the office door, but there were four bodyguards standing outside.
Four burly men blocked Chloe's way. She turned around and looked at Edward, who was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, and said coldly, "Mr. Thompson, what is the meaning of this?"
"What does this mean?" Edward laughed. "Chloe, didn't you do your homework on CloudPharma before coming here? It's easy to come in, but not so easy to leave. Others might fear Leo, but I do not."
At this moment, Chloe felt a sense of danger.
"Come over here and serve me well. I promise, afterward, I'll personally give you four million dollars. How about that?" Edward scrutinized Chloe. The more he looked, the more he found her enchanting.
"Edward, I'll take that as a joke." With that, Chloe turned to the bodyguards at the door and commanded, "Move aside."
"Let her go." Edward had a playful smile on his face, sure that she would eventually come back and obediently have sex with him.
