Chapter 284: Larry Gets Tricked
Amelia didn't expect Larry to be so formidable; he had known her identity all along.
"Speak up," Larry looked at her.
Although he had long guessed Amelia's identity, he didn't know why she approached Frank, or rather, what her purpose was in getting close to him.
He had originally planned to observe her for a while longer in secret.
But now it seemed that Amelia had no ill intentions towards Frank and might even have feelings for him, so he decided to speak up.
"Chieftain is my dad."
Amelia didn't hide it and gave a mischievous smile, "Actually, I snuck out because it was too boring at home, so I came to Sunset City."
Frank was very shocked.
Amelia was actually the daughter of the Chieftain, one of the Five Great Marshals?
"That's right."
Larry beamed at Frank, "Frank, you better seize the opportunity. The Chieftain's daughter is liked by many wealthy and noble families."
Frank gave an awkward smile.
"Alright, I won't disturb you two. I'll head back first." Larry stood up to leave.
"Larry," Frank immediately spoke up, with a pleading look on his face.
Larry looked at him, immediately understood, and tossed a cigarette over. After thinking for a moment, he realized one wasn't enough; he knew Frank's smoking habit—two packs a day.
He directly threw all the cigarettes he had over, along with a lighter.
Amelia caught them and sternly said, "You're not allowed to smoke."
"Larry, can you talk to Amelia? She won't even let me smoke. It's killing me. Can you get someone else to take care of me?" Frank looked dejected. He had been holding back for days, just waiting for Larry to come so he could have a cigarette.
Larry laughed, "Amelia, don't be too strict. It's normal for men to smoke and drink. Frank only has this one habit. Look, he's not interested in any other bad things. If you don't even let him smoke, what's the point of living?"
"Larry, it's not that I don't allow it, but he's injured."
Larry shrugged helplessly and walked out of the ward.
"Amelia, just one cigarette, please," Frank looked at Amelia pitifully.
"What did you call me?" Amelia immediately got angry.
Seeing how pitiful he was and that he was indeed craving a cigarette, Amelia finally gave him one.
Meanwhile, in a villa in Sunset City.
Two people were sitting on the living room sofa.
One was a man in his fifties, dressed in casual clothes with a tuft of beard. He was Cormac, the president of the National Medical Association.
Across him sat an elderly man with a wrinkled face, sunken eyes, and a frail appearance, as if he were on the brink of death. He was Lachlan, the founder of Silvermoon Apothecary.
"Lachlan, Black Dragon has already been detoxified, and he survived a close call last night. You need to do something to prevent him from attending the medical conference; it will ruin our plans."
A glint of sharpness flashed in Lachlan's cloudy eyes as he glanced at Cormac.
"Cormac, Larry's medical skills are impressive. Competing with him has always been your wish. This medical conference is a great opportunity. Defeating Matthew doesn't make you the best; only by defeating Larry can you be considered the world's top doctor."
"That's true, but we must prioritize the bigger picture."
Cormac indeed wanted to compete with Larry.
But this matter was too significant; he understood the gravity of the situation.
Lachlan waved his hand slightly and said, "Don't worry, I've already made arrangements. Larry definitely won't be able to attend the medical conference."
With Lachlan's assurance, Cormac felt relieved.
After leaving the hospital, Larry returned to the Lewis family home.
As soon as he entered, he heard Maria scolding Chloe.
Chloe, being gentle by nature, always remained silent in the face of family criticism.
"Chloe, I'm telling you, the Lewis family's situation is dire. Larry has borrowed millions of dollars. How can he repay it? The money he borrowed will have to be repaid by our family. Before the creditors come after us, you should divorce him. You're still young and beautiful; you can find a wealthy man and remarry. That way, the Lewis family can rise again."
Chloe felt very depressed.
Maria had looked down on Larry for a long time.
"Mom, Larry is already working very hard. Can you give him some time?"
"What's the use of him working?" Maria raised her voice and scolded, "A few thousand dollars a month would help with nothing. Can it support you? It's not even enough for you to buy a set of cosmetics."
Larry opened the door and walked in, just in time to hear this.
He touched his nose and walked over with a bright smile, "Dad, Mom, Chloe."
Maria's face was stern as she coldly said, "Don't call me Mom. I don't have such a useless son-in-law."
"Larry, my mom is just like that. Don't mind her," Chloe said apologetically.
Larry smiled and didn't say much.
Worried that Maria would scold Larry again, Chloe pulled him back to their room.
"She's driving me crazy," Maria cursed angrily, "Ungrateful girl, I have gained nothing after raising you for over twenty years."
In the room.
Chloe also had a stern face, "Larry, from now on, if anything comes up, discuss it with me first. Don't make decisions on your own, okay?"
"Alright."
Larry promised earnestly, "Honey, I'll definitely discuss everything with you from now on. I've been running around all day today, I'm exhausted, my back and shoulders are killing me. Honey, come give me a shoulder massage."
Chloe knew that being a salesperson was indeed tiring, especially for a big company.
She walked over and started massaging Larry's shoulders.
"That feels so good."
Larry looked satisfied.
Larry stayed home all evening and didn't go out.
The next day.
"Chloe, let's go to Medical Street. Today is the last day of the consultations."
"I'm not going," Chloe snorted coldly, "Do you know how people are gossiping about me outside? They say I'm shameless, a fool, an idiot, that I paid to cheat. I'm not going to embarrass myself. I'd rather stay home and avoid hearing those rumors."
"Alright, then I'll go out for a bit."
Larry had nothing to do at home.
He left the house.
He didn't drive because Medical Street was very busy, and all the nearby parking spots were taken. It was better to take a cab.
As he walked to the street outside his house, he saw a taxi parked by the roadside. He walked over, opened the door, and got in.
The driver was a middle-aged man wearing a hat, making it hard to see his face.
The driver asked, "Where to?"
Larry said, "Medical Street."
"Alright."
The driver quickly started the car.
At that moment, Larry sensed something was wrong. He smelled an unusual scent.
Although it was faint and hard for most people to detect, Larry, being a doctor, was very sensitive to medicinal smells.
He held his breath.
But it was too late.
He felt dizzy and quickly passed out.
The driver took off his hat, glanced at the unconscious Larry, and smiled faintly.
"Black Dragon, no matter how skilled you are, this is a special knockout gas formulated by Lachlan. Even an elephant would be knocked out for days after inhaling a bit."
The driver quickly drove off with the unconscious Larry.
Soon, they arrived at a villa.
Several people came over, took the unconscious Larry out of the car, and carried him into the villa.
Inside the villa, there were quite a few people.
Cormac and Lachlan were both there.
Seeing Larry being carried in unconscious, Cormac laughed, "Lachlan, your drug really works. Larry has such a strong constitution, but he was knocked out as soon as he got in the car."
"Sure thing."
Lachlan's face was full of confidence.
The knockout gas he formulated was very effective.
"I'll kill him."
Cormac pulled out a gun.
"What are you doing?" Lachlan said coldly, "Do you want to cause trouble for yourself? This is Sunset City, not the Southwild border. If he dies in Sunset City, there will be an investigation, and no one will escape."
Cormac reluctantly put away the gun.
"If we're not going to kill him, why did we go through all this trouble to bring him here?"
Lachlan glanced at the unconscious Larry on the ground, a sly smile on his wrinkled face, "Someone else will deal with him. Our goal is not to kill him but to prevent him from attending the medical conference."
Cormac looked at Lachlan and asked, "What do you plan to do?"
"He's unconscious now, but he has a strong constitution and has been training for ten years. His body's self-repair ability is very strong. Soon, his body will adjust and expel the toxins. Others would be unconscious for at least three days without an antidote, but he will wake up in two hours. However, it doesn't matter."
Lachlan snapped his fingers.
Soon, a man dressed as a doctor walked over.
The man took out a syringe filled with colorful liquid and injected it into Larry.
Cormac gave a thumbs up, "Lachlan, you're amazing. This way, Larry will be unconscious for a few days. By the time he wakes up, the medical conference will be over."
"That's not entirely correct," Lachlan waved his hand slightly and said, "He has a thousand Black Dragon Army members around him and has recruited many powerful individuals. If his subordinates realize he's missing, they will quickly find him. What I injected him with is not a knockout drug but an aphrodisiac. Now, only the police can catch him. If he's detained by the police, no matter how strong his subordinates are, they can't do anything."
He then ordered, "Take him to a hotel and arrange for the female lead."
"Got it."
Several subordinates immediately carried Larry away.
