Chapter 403 She Is Not a Servant
Chloe had been in the hospital for over two weeks, recovering from her leg injury. Although she wasn't fully healed yet, she just needed some time to rest at home.
The Lewis family came to pick her up from the hospital.
Ever since Larry had given Chloe a billion dollars, Maria had bought a villa near the Lewis estate and moved in.
When Chloe was discharged, the entire Lewis family showed up.
Now, Chloe was like a goddess to the Lewis family, controlling their finances, and everyone was eager to please her.
"Chloe, the Everjoy Company has recently expanded production and made contactwith many businesses. We have so many orders now, all thanks to you," one family member said.
"Yeah, your reputation as a miracle doctor is paying off," another chimed in.
"I think the Everjoy Company needs to reform. We shouldn't just take orders from other companies. We should do our research, produce our drugs, and then go public to make money," suggested another.
The Lewis family members surrounded Chloe, each offering their opinions.
Chloe, however, was focused on Larry, who seemed lost in thought. She held his hand and asked, "Honey, what do you think?"
Larry was so deep in thought that he hadn't heard what the others were saying.
Chloe explained, "Grandpa said the Everjoy Company needs to reform, do its research, build its reputation, and then go public."
"You make the decisions. I don't understand these things," Larry said, shaking his head slightly. He looked at Trinity, who was standing nearby, and said, "Trinity, help me upstairs. I'm a bit tired."
Trinity came over and helped Larry upstairs.
After Larry left, Maria approached Chloe and whispered, "Chloe, are you going to remarry Larry? He's no longer the Black Dragon, and he's not the secret owner of the Epoch Group anymore. He's been demoted to a commoner, and he's poisoned. He doesn't have much time left. People are saying he can barely walk and will soon be bedridden."
"Yeah," Oscar added. "Chloe, he's not the Black Dragon anymore. He's a real burden now. Do you want to spend the rest of your life being dragged down by him?"
Julia nodded. "I agree. He's useless now. If you keep him around, people will laugh at the Lewis family."
The Lewis family members all chimed in.
Larry had helped them in the past, and they were grateful, but his current state was a source of frustration.
Chloe's face darkened. "What are you saying? Without Larry, the Lewis family wouldn't be where it is today. The billion dollars he gave us is the reason for our success. Even if he spends the rest of his life bedridden, I'll take care of him and never abandon him. Don't say such things again."
The Lewis family members exchanged glances.
Chloe controlled the family's money now, so they didn't dare say anything more.
"I'm going to check on him."
Chloe got up and headed to the second floor.
Upstairs, in the bedroom, Larry was sitting on the bed.
Downstairs, his face had been pale, but now it had regained some color.
"Trinity, what's the situation with Abigail?"
Trinity replied, "Everything is on track. I delivered the formula you gave me, and they should be producing the medicine now. But getting a new drug to market involves a lot of red tape and requires approval from many departments."
Trinity had been by Larry's side during this time.
She not only took care of Larry but also acted as his liaison.
Larry knew he was being watched.
He hadn't met with Abigail or called her during this time, instead relying on Trinity to relay messages.
At that moment, Chloe walked in.
Trinity wisely kept quiet.
Chloe instructed, "Trinity, go wash the clothes. I'll take care of Larry."
Trinity nodded and turned to leave.
"Wait..." Larry called out to her.
She turned back and asked, "Larry, is there something else?"
Larry glanced at Chloe and said, "She's here to take care of me, not to be a servant for the Lewis family. If you need someone to wash clothes, ask another servant."
"Larry, what do you mean?"
Chloe's face darkened, and she shouted, "She lives with the Lewis family, so she's a servant of the Lewis family. Is it wrong for me to assign her tasks? And is she someone you hired? Don't think I don't know. You've been exchanging glances and talking behind my back. Do you think I'm stupid?"
"If you want me to stay with the Lewis family, you have to listen to me. Otherwise, I'll move out."
Larry stood up and said, "Trinity, bring me my wheelchair. We're leaving."
Chloe, with tears in her eyes, quickly grabbed Larry. "Honey, I'm sorry. Please don't go."
Larry sighed deeply and sat back down.
Trinity, not wanting to see Larry and Chloe argue, quickly said, "Larry, it's no big deal. Washing clothes is a small task. I'll do it."
"You go rest," Larry ordered firmly.
Trinity wasn't a servant.
He already felt indebted to Trinity and didn't want her to be bossed around by the Lewis family.
"Fine, you go rest," Chloe said, no longer making things difficult for Trinity.
"Yes." Trinity turned and left.
She felt a pang of disappointment.
Although she was happy to be by Larry's side, seeing Chloe made her envious and sad.
Why couldn't it be her?
"Honey, how are you feeling?"
Larry shook his head slightly, not wanting to dwell on these troubling thoughts.
"I'm okay for now. How about you? Have you felt any discomfort lately?"
"No," Chloe shook her head. "I'm puzzled. It's been so long, and the Gu poison in my body hasn't acted up."
Larry took her hand and checked her pulse.
Chloe's pulse was normal, with no signs of anything unusual.
The hospital had also done a thorough check-up when she was discharged and found nothing wrong.
He frowned.
Could it be that Alfonso hadn't given her Gu poison at all?
If it wasn't Gu poison, then what was it?
"Honey, what are you thinking?"
"Nothing," Larry shook his head slightly.
"Honey, I'm going to take a bath," Chloe said, looking at Larry with a seductive expression. "We've been together for so long, but we've never been intimate. I'm not a very good wife. Let's be together tonight."
Larry looked at Chloe and then shook his head slightly. "I don't think my body can handle it."
Although he had been practicing Qi and felt much better, able to suppress the Gu poison and the toxins in his body, he didn't want to be intimate with Chloe at this time.
He wasn't sure if he and Chloe had a future together. Being intimate now would be irresponsible.
Until he was certain that Chloe was the only one for him, he wouldn't be intimate with her.
"Oh, I see," Chloe said, looking disappointed.
She had been ready to give everything to Larry.
If she had known this would happen, she would have been more proactive when Larry was healthy.
If she had been more proactive, none of this would have happened.
