Chapter 204 Adding Insult to Injury

Chloe had no choice but to throw some cash at the problem. It wasn't like it hurt to use money that wasn't even hers. Hearing this, Maria finally chilled out.

She sighed, "Chloe, thanks."

Then she turned to Sam and snapped, "From now on, you're grounded. Don't even think about going anywhere."

"Okay," Sam mumbled, not daring to argue.

The family bickered for a bit, and Chloe finally decided to cough up the money to fix things. Then there was a knock on the door.

Maria told Scott, "Go see who it is."

Scott went to open the door without a word. Two people stood there, a guy and a girl, both looking like they were in their mid-twenties. The guy was all dressed up in a suit and tie. The girl was rocking a professional skirt suit.

Scott looked at them and asked, "Who you looking for?"

The guy asked, "Is Chloe here?"

"Yeah, and you are?" Scott replied.

The guy said, "We're from the bank. We're here to talk to her about a financial issue."

"Come on in," Scott said, still clueless but letting them in anyway.

After they walked in, he called out, "Chloe, someone's here for you."

Chloe frowned and asked, "Who are you?"

The guy said, "Miss Chloe, we're from the bank. Recently, Mr. Martinez made a mistake. He accidentally transferred a whopping two billion dollars into your account."

The girl pulled out some papers and said, "Here's the transfer record. The money was supposed to go to a company, but it ended up in your account by mistake."

The guy added, "This money isn't yours. On behalf of the bank and Mr. Martinez, we need you to return it. We're here to let you know the bank will soon transfer the money out of your account. If you've spent any of it, you need to return it ASAP, or Mr. Martinez will take legal action."

Chloe was totally baffled.

Sitting on the couch with a bit of blood on his face, Sam suddenly jumped up and yelled, "You're lying! Mr. Martinez gave that money to Chloe. Who are you? Get out! You're not getting a single penny back."

That money was his lifeline. How was he supposed to pay off his loan without it? If he couldn't pay, he was screwed.

The guy said, "I'm just here to notify Chloe, that's all." Then he turned and left. The girl followed him out.

Inside, it was just the Lewis family left. Tears streaming down his face, Sam cried, "Chloe, please don't give it back. If we don't pay off the loan, I'm dead."

Chloe sat on the couch, feeling helpless. "This money was never mine. Mr. Martinez only gave it to me because he was scared of Black Dragon. Now that Black Dragon's out of the picture, it's normal for him to want it back."

"Chloe, you can't give it back," Maria urged, "If you do, how will we save Sam?"

"I don't know," Chloe said, feeling lost.

Even though Caius had transferred the money to her, it was just a matter of him saying the word to get it back.

And now she only had 1.5 billion dollars left in her account. Caius wanted her to return 2 billion dollars. That was half a billion short. If she couldn't repay, she'd end up in jail.

Not long after the bank folks left, Chloe got a text from the bank saying the money had already been transferred out of her account.

This had to be Caius's doing. As a big shot, it was easy for him to get the bank to move the money out of her account.

The whole fam was freaking out about the money transfer.

"Mom, what do we do now?" Sam cried, all panicked.

Maria was just as lost, feeling the anxiety creeping in. Everyone was on edge.

In the middle of their freak-out, a lawyer's letter from the Martinez family showed up at their door.

The letter accused Chloe of illegally holding onto someone else's cash and misusing 500 million dollars, demanding it back by a certain date or they'd sue her.

Meanwhile, the 800 million in loan shark debt was still hanging over their heads, and the Martinez family used their connections to yank the money from Chloe's account.

The Lewis family was thrown into chaos. They all gathered in the house, no one saying a word.

"Mom, do something!" Mindy finally broke the silence, sounding desperate.

Maria was at a loss. What could she do?

They owed the Martinez family 500 million dollars, plus 800 million in loan shark debt and interest. It was a massive amount. Even if they sold everything, including the family and Everjoy Company, they couldn't come up with that kind of cash.

"Chloe, you're the only one who can save Sam now," Maria looked at Chloe.

"How am I supposed to do that?" Chloe was on the verge of tears.

It made sense for the Martinez family to take back their money since it wasn't hers to begin with.

But now Sam had swiped 500 million, sticking her with a 500 million dollar debt. She couldn't even cover that, let alone the billions needed to pay off Sam's debt.

"Sis, don't you know a bunch of rich guys? You could get the money by sleeping with them."

Chloe slapped Mindy and snapped, "Why should I clean up Sam's mess? Why don't you go sleep with those guys?"

Mindy started crying from the slap.

"I would if they wanted me."

"Yeah, Chloe, I'm begging you," Sam immediately dropped to his knees.

"You can't just watch me get beaten to death. Go find Black Dragon. Isn't he loaded as the chairman of The Serpent Group? Or go find Mr. Carter. He's rich too. Sleep with them for a night, and you'll get the money. Then I won't have to die."

Chloe looked at them, tears streaming down her face.

What did this have to do with her?

Not only had they stolen her money, but now they wanted her to help and even sleep with those rich dudes?

She covered her mouth and ran out, crying. Outside, the sky was dark and stormy. Lightning flashed through the clouds. Rain poured down. Chloe stood outside, letting the rain drench her. Her mood was as gloomy as the sky.

Disfigured for ten years, she had been a joke in Sunset City and a burden to her family. Just when things were looking up, something bad had to happen.

With Black Dragon backing her, everything had been smooth sailing.

Now that Black Dragon was gone, she couldn't move an inch.

"God, why are you doing this to me?" she shouted into the rain.

But no one answered. The rain eventually stopped. Chloe sat alone at the bus stop.

Her clothes clung to her skin, showing off her perfect figure since she was soaked.

'What should I do?' she kept thinking.

Now she owed the Martinez family 500 million dollars, and Sam owed 800 million in loan shark debt. With interest, it was over a billion dollars, totaling more than 2 billion.

She couldn't afford to not repay the money with the Martinez family being so powerful.

Alexander was also a gangster, ruthless. If she didn't pay, the Lewis family would be in big trouble.

Where could she find two billion dollars?
