Chapter 483 Announcing Departure
Megan issued a series of commands.
First, the research must start as soon as possible.
Second, there can only be one VitaGen Medical in Summer Nation - all other pharmaceutical groups must be eliminated.
Third, there can only be one pharmacy on Medical Street, and that's Silvermoon Apothecary.
She was decisive and results-oriented, not caring about the process and having no interest in watching it unfold.
"Miss Ward..." Cormac stood up, looking troubled. "Larry is currently in Sunset City, and he's set up PaxGen Pharmaceuticals. He's been going head-to-head with VitaGen Medical lately. It'll be very difficult to achieve these goals smoothly - Larry will definitely step in to stop us."
"Larry?"
Megan murmured softly.
Though she'd been in Aurora Citadel, she'd heard Larry's name many times.
She knew quite a bit about Larry's situation.
"PaxGen Pharmaceuticals can't possibly stop VitaGen Medical. VitaGen Medical has strong financial backing, and Larry's money came from Xerxes. After Xerxes gave him several hundred billion dollars, he can't come up with much more funding. Once Larry's PaxGen Pharmaceuticals runs out of money, it'll naturally go bankrupt."
Cormac asked again, "Larry's medical skills are unmatched. If he steps in to stop us again, it'll be hard to eliminate the pharmacies on Medical Street."
"To eliminate them, do we have to use legitimate methods?" Megan glanced at him. "Don't you know how to work behind the scenes?"
"Yes, I understand."
Cormac said nothing more.
"Meeting adjourned."
Megan stood up and walked out of the conference room.
That evening, Larry read late into the night.
Only when he felt tired did he put down the medical text, yawn, and stand up to look at Chloe, who was already asleep.
Sleeping Chloe was enchanting, her beautiful face wearing a faint smile. Perhaps because she was restless in her sleep, she'd kicked off the covers, revealing her fair neck and chest.
She wasn't wearing anything.
Larry walked over and gently pulled the covers back over her.
The slight movement woke Chloe.
She opened her eyes drowsily, saw Larry about to turn away, grabbed him, and asked, "Honey, where are you going?"
Her voice was sleepy and lazy, full of temptation.
"I'm going to sleep on the floor."
Larry said.
Maybe it was habit from the Lewis Villa.
Maybe there was still some barrier in his heart.
Chloe immediately became fully awake, sat up, and looked at Larry, her eyes welling up with tears. "Honey, you still haven't forgiven me. You're still mad that I used to make you sleep on the floor, aren't you?"
"That's not it."
"Then get in bed."
Larry didn't want to keep arguing with Chloe, so he nodded.
He got into bed and lay down.
But he faced away from Chloe.
Though it wasn't the first time they'd slept together, he'd always kept some distance from Chloe. Despite being husband and wife, they hadn't been intimate.
Chloe hugged him from behind, pressing her body close to his, and said softly, "Honey, come on, I'm ready. I want to give myself to you. I want to be your real wife. I want to have your baby."
Being together for so long without letting Larry touch her was Chloe's biggest regret.
Now she'd figured it out and was taking the initiative.
Chloe held Larry and kissed his neck.
Larry was a man too, and being teased like this, he was having trouble resisting.
But he didn't lose his reason.
Until he was sure he could spend the rest of his life with Chloe, he didn't want to be intimate with her.
"Chloe..."
He pushed away the passionate Chloe and said, "Can you give me some time?"
Perhaps because his reaction was too strong, even his voice trembled slightly.
Chloe's eyes immediately filled with tears as she choked out, "You still look down on me. You're lying next to me but thinking about other women."
"I'm not."
Larry sounded uncertain.
"Then hold me while we sleep."
Larry took a deep breath and held Chloe.
Chloe nestled in his arms.
They slept in each other's embrace.
The night passed quietly.
The next day.
In the morning, Chloe woke up early.
As soon as she woke, she felt someone touching her chest. Her face flushed. She wanted to move, but Larry's arms held her tightly. Unable to move and not daring to, she just stared at the ceiling.
Soon, Larry woke up too.
When he woke, he felt something in his hand and squeezed it unconsciously.
Soft and warm.
"Ah."
A cry came from beside him.
"Larry, what are you doing? That hurts."
Only then did Larry realize what happened. He quickly let go, jumped up, and looked at Chloe's flushed face, his own face reddening. "Chloe, I didn't mean to."
Chloe didn't blame him.
It was just that Larry had squeezed too hard and actually hurt her, making her cry out.
Seeing Chloe like this and her attractive body, Larry swallowed hard. She was too tempting. Afraid he couldn't control himself, he quickly turned away, got out of bed, grabbed a cigarette from the cabinet, and lit it.
Chloe also got up and started getting dressed.
Just as she finished dressing, her phone rang.
The caller ID showed Victor.
She answered and asked, "Grandpa, what's wrong so early in the morning?"
Victor's anxious voice came through the phone: "Chloe, come back quickly. Something's happened. Something big."
Chloe's heart jumped to her throat as she asked, "What happened?"
Victor was very anxious.
He could barely speak clearly.
"Just come back quickly. I can't explain over the phone."
"Okay."
Chloe hung up.
Larry asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"
Chloe shook her head. "I don't know. It was Grandpa calling. He said something big happened, seems very serious, and wants me to come back right away."
"I'll go with you." Larry thought for a moment. He had nothing planned today anyway.
He was also worried that his enemies might have made a move against the Lewis family. He needed to see for himself to feel at ease.
"Okay."
Chloe nodded.
They both left together.
Esmeralda wasn't downstairs.
After Larry and Chloe left the villa, they saw Esmeralda doing horse stance in the garden outside.
She was wearing a white tracksuit with her long hair in a ponytail.
Yorick was watching from the side.
Seeing Larry and Chloe come out, she stopped, took the towel from Yorick's hand, wiped the sweat from her forehead, walked over, and called out, "Larry, Chloe."
"Not bad, you're working hard." Larry praised her.
"By the way, Larry, are you heading out?" Esmeralda asked.
"Yeah." Larry nodded. "The Lewis family called saying something big happened and wants Chloe to come back. I'm worried too, so I'm going with her to check it out."
"Something did happen." Yorick said from the side. "This morning, news broke that Legion Lord, the Everlife Group, and other established pharmaceutical groups all announced they're pulling out and leaving the pharmaceutical industry. VitaGen Medical held a press conference and fully acquired Legion Lord, the Everlife Group, and the others."
"What?"
Larry's expression changed immediately. "When did this happen?"
Yorick raised his hand to check the time.
It was now 9 AM.
"The news came out around seven. As soon as it broke, it caused a huge uproar."
Chloe said, "Grandpa must be talking about this too. Let's go back and see."
