Chapter 379 I Will Accompany You for the Rest of Your Life

"You don't have any other choice."

Larry's voice was calm but firm. "You got one option: work with me and help me out. If not, it's back to the dungeon for you. Think it over. I'll be back for your answer."

With that, he stood up and walked out.

Abigail followed closely behind.

She hadn't said a word, but as Larry got up, she quickly stood and supported him.

Alden sat on the couch, watching Larry leave. His rugged face showed a hint of gloom.

Abigail helped Larry outside.

"Do you really trust him, Larry?" Abigail asked.

Larry nodded. "Yeah, I do. The Summer Nation's got a history that goes back thousands of years. A lot of stuff's been buried by time. I believe in Qi. I believe there are Martial Masters who have cultivated it."

Abigail found it hard to believe.

It was just too incredible.

But she didn't press the issue and changed the subject instead. "Where do you plan to go next?"

Larry stood by the roadside outside the neighborhood, watching the endless stream of cars and the distant skyscrapers. Sunset City was vast, but he had no place to call home.

At that moment, he longed for a home, a place to settle down.

He shook his head slightly. "I don't know where to go. Maybe I should go back to the cave where I found the medical book."

Alden's words had made Larry realize that Qi existed in this world.

He knew some powerful martial artists cultivated Qi.

Years ago, he had jumped into a river, drifted with the current, and ended up in an underground cave where he found the medical book and learned the Against Heaven 81 Needles technique.

He used the knowledge from the medical book to strengthen his body and achieved great feats on the battlefield, earning the title of Black Dragon.

The Against Heaven 81 Needles technique was miraculous, defying modern physics. It must have been left by a master skilled in both medicine and martial arts.

He believed the master who left the medical book in the cave must have also left methods for cultivating Qi, which he hadn't discovered yet.

He needed to get rid of the Gu in his body as soon as possible.

"A cave?" Abigail was slightly taken aback.

Larry shook his head. "It's nothing. Do you have any money? Lend me some so I can find a place to stay and settle down."

"Come to my place," Abigail suggested. "You need someone to take care of you in your current state. It'll be easier for me to look after you if you're at my place."

She hailed a cab and helped Larry into the car.

Larry had nowhere else to go, so he decided to follow Abigail.

Abigail had worked abroad for many years. She was highly capable, earned a good salary, and had saved up a considerable amount of money.

After coming to Sunset City, she bought a small villa.

Though it wasn't large, it was a cozy two-story home.

She helped Larry inside and guided him to the couch. "Sit here. I'll get you some warm water."

Larry leaned back on the couch.

He felt utterly exhausted, not even wanting to open his eyes.

Abigail soon returned with a cup of warm water and handed it to Larry. "Drink some."

Larry took the cup, sipped a little, and then handed it back to Abigail.

She placed it on the table and sat down, looking at Larry. "What do you plan to do next?"

Larry shook his head slightly.

He felt lost.

He had things to do but didn't know how to go about them.

He had hoped to rescue Alden and win him over.

With Alden in the shadows and himself in the light, they would be invincible together.

But Alden seemed indifferent to these matters.

Larry's thoughts were interrupted by a cough.

He covered his mouth with his hand and coughed up some blood, his hand stained with it.

In the blood, tiny worms could be seen.

Abigail's face turned pale with fright. "Larry, there's something in your blood!"

Larry wiped his hand with a tissue, his voice weak. "That must be the Gu in my body. It's what's causing me to be like this. I need to find a way to cultivate Qi quickly. If I don't, I'll be completely paralyzed in three months."

Larry was a doctor.

He understood his condition well.

The Gu in his body was multiplying, laying eggs in his blood.

Eventually, the Gu would paralyze him completely, turning his body into a nest.

"What are we going to do?" Abigail's face was filled with anxiety.

"Don't worry. I won't die just yet." Larry saw Abigail's worried expression and felt a warmth in his heart. Having someone care about him was enough.

"But..."

Abigail looked at Larry's pale face and the blood at the corner of his mouth, feeling a pang of sorrow.

"It hurts to see you like this."

Her eyes reddened, and tears began to fall.

"It hurts me too, you know?"

"It's okay. Really, it's okay. Don't be like this." Larry tried to comfort her.

Abigail suddenly hugged Larry tightly.

"Larry, can we just forget everything? Let me stay with you for the rest of your life, even if it's just for a day. Let me walk this last part of your journey with you."

Larry was moved by her words.

A warm feeling rose in his heart.

He couldn't help but hug Abigail back.

"Okay." He responded softly.

He didn't know how long he had left. He didn't know if his judgment was correct.

He didn't know if the cave where he found the medical book had methods for cultivating Qi.

If not, he would have to approach the Bennett family, obtain the Artwork of Moonlit, and uncover its secrets to have a chance at learning how to cultivate Qi.

Otherwise, he was doomed.

The future was full of uncertainties.

He didn't know what would happen or what his fate would be.

But he didn't want to miss out on the person in front of him.

He had let Chloe down and didn't want to let Abigail down too.

They embraced each other.

After a while, Larry spoke weakly, "You're crushing me. You're heavy."

Abigail's face turned red, and she quickly stood up, looking down and murmuring, "Sorry."

Larry chuckled. "Just kidding. If I were healthy, I could carry ten of you."

Abigail glanced at Larry shyly.

Larry had agreed to her, making her his girlfriend in name, but she couldn't feel happy.

Maybe Larry knew his condition and agreed because he knew he didn't have long to live.

Thinking of this, her eyes filled with tears.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying again?"

Larry looked at Abigail's tearful face and couldn't help but ask, "Come on, don't cry. I'll be fine. I believe I can change my fate."

"Larry." Abigail's lips trembled as she cried, "I'm so scared. I'm scared of losing you."

"Don't say that. I'm a bit hungry. Can you make me something to eat?"
