Chapter 100 Did you think I was going to kiss you?

Zachary remained silent, resting his eyes with his back against the chair. He seemed exhausted, with a noticeable layer of fatigue in his eyes.

It was Anthony, as his representative lawyer, who spoke first. "The court hopes that you and Mr. Bailey can privately reconcile. Having a couple fight in court is not good for either of you."

Ryan had told her that this was a step in the legal process before the divorce trial. Usually, it happened a few days before the trial, but due to Zachary's busy schedule, it was left until just before the trial.

Winona said, "If you can get him to agree to the divorce, I will withdraw the lawsuit immediately, without any delay."

Anthony didn't say anything more. There was no obvious change in his expression. The previous question seemed more like a routine inquiry and lacked sincerity.

Soon, the judge and relevant personnel came to mediate, saying the same things as Anthony. Winona felt a little ignorant after hearing the repetition, but she insisted, "The divorce is necessary!"

Seeing her firm attitude, everyone had no choice but to give up.

Just a few minutes after the court officials left, Winona received a call from Carlos. It was an international number, and she recognized his voice as soon as she answered.

"Withdraw the lawsuit immediately!" Carlos sounded furious. His breath was heavy and erratic over the phone, like he had just run a marathon.

Upon hearing these words, Winona's first reaction was to look at Zachary...

She didn't know if he had been waiting for this moment or if it was just a coincidence, but when she looked at him, he had just opened his eyes, meeting her gaze.

Winona silently mouthed two words to him, "How despicable."

She couldn't believe that he had actually complained to Carlos. Did he think she would listen to him? Did he still believe that, as her father, he had some influence to change her decision?

"Did you hear me?" Carlos raised his voice a few degrees when Winona remained silent, nearly deafening her ears. "Withdraw the lawsuit immediately! The Sullivan family cannot tolerate this humiliation!"

"It's the Sullivan family..."

"Is it because you can't bear the humiliation, or because you can't bear to let go of Zachary, the noble son-in-law?" Winona flicked her hair and continued to stab Carlos in his heart. "But even if his status is noble, you haven't enjoyed any benefits, have you? Look at those wealthy fathers-in-law, living a life of luxury. And you? You don't even dare to come back to the country because of debt. After being away for so many years, do you even remember the taste of home?"

Back in America, Carlos never appreciated those flashy things and always just wanted to go home and eat.

She hated Carlos, but she also hated Zachary, so she didn't mind using him as a tool to hurt them both!

Both of them deserve to be hurt!

Meanwhile, Ryan discreetly looked up and glanced at Mr. Bailey, who appeared calm as if his mask was welded on...

It was like a public execution!

Mr. Bailey was truly composed...

Winona continued to provocatively taunt the person on the other end of the phone, "Look at you. You raised your daughter all these years and gained no benefits. It would be better to let me kick him out. Then you can find me a wealthy man, and maybe you can come back from overseas openly and gloriously."

Carlos on the other end had long been left speechless.

"Screech," the harsh sound of the chair scraping against the floor as it moved.

Zachary stood up from his seat, expressionless, and glanced at Anthony. "We're ready for court."

Walking in front, Zachary and Anthony were followed by Winona and Ryan, with a two-meter distance between them.

Zachary: "When will this be over?"

Anthony: "Within half an hour."

Ryan thought to himself: Although I know you're impressive, can't you at least leave me with some dignity? I'm the one involved here!

As soon as this thought crossed his mind, he felt Winona glance at him, and his heart skipped a beat. Then he heard her sigh and ask, "Do you want to go back to school and further your studies?"

Winona was just speaking casually. In fact, Ryan was very capable. Although he couldn't guarantee a hundred percent success rate in his cases, he was still ranked among the top in New York.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have sought him out despite knowing how formidable the Bailey Group lawyers were.

Ryan kept his gaze forward, feeling resigned. "A lawyer is a lawyer, and Mr. Lewis is Mr. Lewis. They're not the same breed, so don't compare us. Don't mention going back to school, even if I were directly studying law and regulations, I might not be able to compete."

After spending this time with Winona, he wasn't so formal in his speech.

Winona: "...You're being modest at the expense of your own prestige. I'll complain about you to your law firm."

Zachary didn't look back. "He's just being clear about his position, unlike someone who doesn't know their own limitations and constantly wants to challenge the unattainable."

Winona opened her mouth to retort, but they arrived at the courtroom.

This was her first time being involved in a lawsuit. Sitting in the plaintiff's seat, she could see Zachary on the opposite side. He maintained his composure, his presence as the defendant almost overshadowing the judge's.

After going through a series of procedures, the trial formally began.

Anthony said it would be over within half an hour, and it really did get stuck at that point.

Although Winona had long prepared herself for the unavoidable, she didn't expect the verdict to be announced on the spot, leaving her with no hope at all.

Leaving the courtroom, Anthony said to Ryan, "Well done, you held out longer than I expected."

Ryan replied, "Thank you for the affirmation, Mr. Lewis..."

Winona glanced at him, seeing his pathetic expression, couldn't help rolling her eyes and walked away.

But before she reached the car, Zachary grabbed her hand and forcibly pushed her into the backseat of the Bentley, saying, "Let's talk."

"Are you talking about the divorce?"

Zachary sneered, leaning closer to her, his dominating presence enveloping her.

He looked into her eyes, getting closer and closer, as if he was about to kiss her...

This was too sudden!

Winona's body instantly tensed up, her back firmly pressed against the backrest of the seat, her breath unconsciously becoming lighter.

Zachary reached out and fastened her seat belt, saying, "Let's talk about your plan to find another wealthy man."

He stared at her, a mocking grin on his face, "Nervous? Do you think I'm going to kiss you?"
