Chapter 89 Engagement of The Enemy
In that matter, she was bullied. Lydia got up, holding her chest. She felt more stirred tonight than in the past few decades combined. She couldn't eat this meal anymore. Winona saw her and wanted to help, but Lydia refused: "I need some quiet. After you finish eating, please, leave quickly. My heart has endured what it shouldn't have." She waved her hand towards Sarah and said, "Give them the invitation."
Sarah took an engagement party invitation from the coffee table in the living room and handed it to Winona. Then she went to the kitchen. Although Zachary was the one who hired her, now that they were heading for a divorce, it made more sense for her to deal with him. However, he sat there in silence, with a chilling, sneering expression.
Winona opened the invitation and raised an eyebrow when she saw the name of the bride. Surprisingly, it was her college classmate.
Zachary's gaze had been fixed on her face, and upon seeing this, he asked, "Enemies?"
"Not exactly. Just not very good friends," she replied.
They were not very good friends at all.
"You seem to have enemies everywhere. Even receiving an invitation is troublesome for you," Zachary said sarcastically. "But with your personality, besides Rebecca, that absent-minded girl, I doubt anyone can get along with you."
Winona suspected that Zachary was intentionally attacking her personally to get back at Fiona's embarrassment earlier. He couldn't do anything to his elders, so he blamed her instead.
She silently pursed her lips. This man was not only scum but also petty.
Since they had already agreed on the plan to help him and Fiona get together, she didn't want to waste time arguing over such trivial matters. "We don't need to hide anything from my mother now. Find some time, and let's go arrange the formalities."
Zachary smirked and his voice carried a faint laugh, "Didn't you understand what I said in the car earlier? I brought you back to explain to my mother, not to provoke her. You failed to do what I asked, and now you have the nerve to negotiate with me?"
"You want me to explain your own actions?" Winona trembled with anger, pointing her finger at him. "Zachary, are you even a man?"
Zachary leaned back, tilting his head to look up at her face with a mocking smile, casually saying, "Why don't you use your hand to find out?"
Winona lowered her gaze, first looking at the teacup in front of her, and then at Zachary's seemingly righteous face. "For someone like you, I won't compromise myself."
In the next instant, she raised her hand and threw the cup of tea towards him. Warm droplets of water dripped down his eyelashes, nose, chin, and cheeks. The sophisticated and elegant Mr. Bailey looked extremely disheveled at this moment.
However, there was no trace of disarray on his face. He maintained his posture and kept staring at her, without even flickering his eyelids.
Winona turned around and said, "Sarah, call the driver and prepare the car."
He infuriated her. What a bastard!
As she took a few steps forward, she heard a grating sound of a chair moving behind her, and then she was stopped in her tracks.
A person grabbed her wrist and forcibly turned her around.
The man had droplets of water on his face, his other hand wrapped around her waist. As he leaned in, his rapid breath sprayed onto her face. "Wipe it clean."
Winona raised her head to confront him, speaking each word provocatively and slowly, clear as a bell. "No way."
She had thought Zachary would get angry. Anyone would get angry if they were splashed in the face with water. But he just laughed softly, "Sarah, go downstairs."
Sarah answered with a "yes" and hurriedly returned to her room, not caring to tidy up the mess on the table.
Zachary repeated, "I'll say it once more, wipe it clean."
Winona stood her ground, taking half a step forward. "And I'll answer you once again, forget it!"
She turned her head to avoid his gaze. "Don't get too close, I might not be able to resist the temptation of slapping you."
"You can try."
Winona didn't hesitate for a moment and actually raised her hand to slap him...
Their relationship had already reached this point, so one slap wouldn't change the status quo!
But just as her hand was halfway through the motion, Zachary stopped her. He embraced her waist, ignoring her resistance, and gave her a deep, forceful kiss.
Winona's eyes widened in shock, taking several seconds to react. She fiercely bit Zachary's lip, her bite harsh and heavy, immediately tasting the metallic tang of blood.
"Hiss..."
Zachary instinctively released her, his fingertip wiping off a faint trace of blood from his lip. "Why do you act like a dog?"
Winona spat twice with a "ptui ptui." "Better than you, you shameless person."
"Even if I'm angry, I can't physically harm you, so I can only bully you like this," he let go of her. The villa had air conditioning, and the water on his face had already dried. "If you don't want this, be more respectful next time."
This person really deserved a beating!
Winona turned and left the villa. This time, Zachary didn't stop her and didn't follow. The incident had happened too quickly, and Sarah probably hadn't had time to call Brian yet. She didn't want to turn back either, too angry to see Zachary's face.
Forget it, just go out. There was a bus stop two kilometers away. She might still catch the last trip.
Winona had only taken a few steps when a black Bentley stopped by her side. The door opened, and the driver got out, quickly coming around the front of the car to open the door... it was Crest Manor's driver.
"Madam, Mr. Bailey asked me to take you back."
Winona didn't hesitate and simply bent down to get into the car.
After the commotion with Zachary, she hadn't even had a chance to eat, and now she was tired and hungry. Since there was a car, there was no reason not to take it.
The engagement banquet was on Saturday. Winona hadn't gone with Zachary on that day. The day after she saw the invitation at the Bailey family, she had received one herself.
Since graduating, she had rarely stayed in touch with her classmates, and she didn't even have contact information for Cassie, who she had a bad relationship with. Someone else had brought the invitation to her.
The person who delivered it said Cassie was not feeling well and couldn't make it to the banquet, but she sent her regards and wished her well.
The person said she had invited all the classmates; but when she arrived at the engagement party, she realized that it's not just the whole class, but probably about a third of the entire department.
Cassie and the groom stood at the door to greet the guests. Seeing her, Cassie held her head up high with pride!
"Winona, I didn't think that you would dare to come!"
"If you dare invite me, why wouldn't I dare to come?"
Back then, on the school forum, someone intentionally orchestrated the sale of graduation designs for a high price to gain fame. Though there was no concrete evidence, it was said that Cassie was the one. Cassie apologized publicly, but the damage had already been done.
Cassie asked snidely; "Didn't I hear that you got married? So, why isn't your husband here today? Is it because he thinks you're shameless, seducing one man after another, and marrying him with a damaged body, only to finally divorce you?"
The engagement banquet was about to begin, and there were almost no onlookers at the door, which was why she spoke so brazenly.
A triumphant smile appeared on Winona's lips. "Speaking of divorce, why don't I make a list of your ex-boyfriends for your future husband? Let's compare, shall we?"
