Chapter 679 Winona, It Will Be Fine

Anthony wasn't ready for the shove and stumbled back a bit.

Rebecca's eyes darted from his face to his stomach and back again several times before she finally muttered, looking a bit out of it, "It's nothing."

But she didn't seem like it was nothing; she looked pretty shaken up.

Rebecca awkwardly crawled out from under him, moving like Anthony was a ticking time bomb, and any touch would set him off.

Anthony stayed in the position she had pushed him into, not moving until she was almost out of reach. Then he grabbed her hand, "What's wrong?"

Rebecca forced a laugh and waved her hand, "Nothing, really. It's late, I gotta go. I've been crashing at my parents' place lately, and I can't be out too late."

She tried to pull her hand away but didn't dare make any sudden moves.

How did Anthony get so big? And the hardness was different from what she remembered. Just now, it had poked her stomach painfully.

This change was too sudden; she needed to calm down.

Anthony still held her hand firmly, his expression serious, "Tell me, what's wrong?"

Rebecca stammered, "It's nothing, I just need to go."

"What about Winona? Aren't you gonna help her?"

"No, let Zachary handle it. He's her husband."

She couldn't handle it; if she did, Anthony would devour her.

Anthony thought about how she had been staring at him earlier and raised an eyebrow. The only thing different about him was that.

"Did it scare you?"

Facing Anthony's half-smiling expression, Rebecca coughed. Even if it did, she couldn't admit it. Otherwise, she'd look so low. After all, she was a woman who had once hired twenty strippers at a party.

Rebecca straightened her back, trying to appear calm and worldly, "No, I just suddenly remembered something. Anthony, did we really have sex last time?"

It shouldn't be. With his size, if they had really done it, she wouldn't have been able to get out of bed for days.

Anthony's eyes narrowed slightly, looking dangerous, but Rebecca was too lost in thought to notice, "Didn't you feel it?"

She did feel it, but that was the problem. If she hadn't felt anything, she wouldn't be so conflicted.

She hadn't seen the dangerous glint in Anthony's eyes, but she wasn't stupid. She knew saying it outright would cause trouble, so she chose her words carefully, "I was drunk that night, my senses were dulled. I just felt a bit of pain, my butt hurt a bit."

He started to laugh softly and began unbuttoning his shirt.

Rebecca panicked and pressed his hand down, "What are you doing? We can talk without you taking off your clothes."

"Weren't you drunk that night, with dulled senses? Let's do it again tonight while you're sober. Then you'll know if we did it that night. After all, doing it once or twice makes no difference."

That logic seemed sound, but something felt off.

"What do you mean, doing it once or twice makes no difference? If we didn't do it last time and we do it this time, wouldn't I be losing out?"

Anthony chuckled at her reaction, "Alright, chill out. I wasn't planning on touching you."

Rebecca realized that his hand, which she had been holding down, hadn't moved. She hadn't used much force, so he must have been telling the truth. He wasn't planning to touch her; he was just messing with her.

Anthony stood up, "I'll change and take you home."

Rebecca stood up and stopped him, "And then use the excuse of not having a car to make me drive you back? We'll be going back and forth until morning. Or are you planning to follow me in your car?"

"It's not safe for a girl to drive alone this late. I'll take you home and then grab a cab back."

Meanwhile, Zachary and Winona had left the police station and headed straight back to Regal Oaks.

Sitting on the couch at home, Winona still felt uneasy, "Are you sure you don't need to go back to the hospital?"

"I'm fine, just a few scratches. They don't hurt anymore."

Winona nodded and fell silent.

Zachary noticed her mood and squeezed her hand reassuringly, "Winona, don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you."

Winona forced a smile.

She wasn't worried about herself. She hadn't intended for Maeve to die. She had thrown her a life ring before leaving, making sure she was safe.

But Maeve had died in the pool, and Winona couldn't help but feel sad.

A life lost, she couldn't be indifferent.

Zachary said, "Her death has nothing to do with you. It was just a coincidence. Whoever targeted her knew she had secrets. If she hadn't died in the pool, it would have been somewhere else. Don't blame yourself."

Winona glanced at the clock on the wall, "The 24 hours are almost up. Have the kidnappers confessed?"

She hadn't known much about Alton before, even though Lydia had told her he was a psychopath. But Maeve's death made her realize just how dangerous he was.

Zachary replied, "No, but Alton won't be getting out. He'll be in custody for at least 30 days."

At that moment, Alton was smiling at the officer on duty, a hint of smugness in his expression, "Time's up. Shouldn't you let me go? I told you, I wasn't involved in the kidnapping. I don't know those people. I'm a good citizen."

The officer looked at him coldly, "A good citizen? Alton, we've checked your background. You faked your death twenty years ago to escape the law, got some fake ID abroad, and now you claim to be a good citizen?"

Alton said, "I fell into the sea back then, got lucky, and was rescued by fishermen. Then I was kidnapped and taken abroad, got hit on the head, and lost my memory. It was all a coincidence. I didn't know I'd survive."

The officer snorted, "You're involved in a murder case now. You won't be getting out. Stay here and wait for your trial."

"Murder? Who died?"

"Maeve. Mr. Bailey from the Bailey Group reported you. He said you called him to attend the Fields family party with the deceased and that Maeve was sent by you to get close to him."
