Chapter 463 Excuse
Winona saw that Nicholas was dead serious and quickly reached out to stop him. "Mr. Ramsey, come on, you wouldn't be interested in a pregnant woman like me, right?"
Nicholas glanced at her belly and finally stopped, slumping onto the sofa. "Did your stomach still hurt after that fall last time?" he asked.
Back then, he couldn't leave her, so he called an ambulance. But they told him her condition wasn't serious, and she didn't end up going to the hospital.
Winona heard the worry in his voice. After a few seconds of silence, she pursed her lips and asked, "Do you like this child?"
Nicholas was more worried about Winona than the child. Plus, his current identity was Nicholas. If he said he liked the child, it might expose his true identity. But if he said he didn't, it would definitely upset her. He was stuck in a tricky spot.
While he was hesitating, Winona started to kick him out. "Anyway, the child isn't yours, so it doesn't matter whether you like it or not."
She put on a fierce face. "Are you leaving or not? If you don't, I'll call security," she said.
Nicholas lowered his eyes and pitifully defended himself, "I didn't say I didn't like it, I just..."
He was just trying to figure out the best way to respond.
But he had stuff to do today and couldn't stay long.
Even though he knew Winona didn't want to hear it, Nicholas still explained eagerly, "I like this child."
But Winona wasn't having it and had already taken out her phone to look for the property management's number. She was doing it right in front of him.
Seeing this, Nicholas pursed his lips, stood up, and reluctantly said, "Then I'll go."
He looked back with every step, but even when he reached the door, Winona didn't ask him to stay. He let out a long, frustrated sigh and advised, "Don't get too close to Timothy. He's not as harmless as he seems."
"Wait," Winona called out.
Nicholas's face lit up, but he tried to hide it. "What is it?" he asked.
"This is for you," Winona handed him the pillow she had just bought. "You like children, right? Here, take it. You should treat it well."
Nicholas didn't get the hidden meaning in her words. He just thought his earlier answer had made her happy. He was thinking about how to make Winona give up on letting the child sleep on such a low-quality pillow. As soon as she handed it over, he took it.
"Alright, you should go now." Winona quickly opened the door, pushed him out with her hand on his back, and couldn't help but laugh.
Nicholas was pushed out before he could say anything, and the door closed behind him.
He looked at the pillow in his hand, smiled, and only realized when he reached the elevator that he hadn't asked her for the locksmith company's number.
Nicholas pulled out his phone and called Winona, but he got a recording: "Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable."
Was he blocked again?
At the door of Room 3402, Nicholas knocked, and an impatient voice echoed from within. Soon, the door swung open, revealing Samuel's cold demeanor.
Samuel wasn't surprised to see who it was. He just gave a cold smile and said, "I knew it was you."
Then he pointed at his watch and continued, "Do you know what time it is? If I don't get back soon, I'll miss curfew and have to sleep in the study again."Nicholas was at a loss for words and disdainfully brushed past Samuel with his shoulder. "Most people get closer the more they pursue someone. But you? Not only have you failed to win her over, but you've even got a curfew. You might as well set up a nest next to your dog's kennel. At this rate, you won't even be able to get through the door."
Samuel laughed in exasperation and responded, "Just say you're jealous. Even if I end up sleeping with the dog, at least I can see her every day and keep her by my side. But you? Winona could remarry any day now, and then your child will be calling someone else 'Dad,' while you'll still have to pay child support."
Nicholas waved the pillow in front of Samuel.
Samuel frowned and slapped it away. "What? Are you so desperate for a woman that you're using this as a psychological crutch to hug at night?" he asked.
Nicholas replied, "This was given to me by Winona."
A pillow was worth showing off? Samuel pressed his temples, feeling a headache from dealing with such an idiot. "What do you mean by buying me an apartment?" he asked.
He had just returned home today when he received a delivery with the purchase contract and keys for an apartment, with his name as the buyer.
Nicholas replied, "Winona lives upstairs, but it's not convenient for me to buy it in my name."
Samuel understood. This wasn't a gift; it was just using him as an excuse.
Nicholas continued, "Thanks for handling the overseas branch. Once I finish my current tasks, I'll help you win Julia back."
When news of his disappearance spread, the overseas company was the first to fall into chaos. It was hard to manage, and the environment was more chaotic than back home. Evander was too old to go there himself, and while a remote control seemed fine at first, it would surely lead to major issues over time.
If it weren't for Samuel holding things down, the hard-won market would have been lost.
Yet Samuel quickly raised his hand to stop him. "No, I appreciate the thought, but I don't want to end up without even a doghouse to sleep in."
Nicholas said, "Then forget it. You can keep sleeping in the doghouse."
Helping him pursue a woman, and Samuel still had the nerve to complain. It was no surprise that Julia was annoyed with him.
Thinking this, Nicholas looked at the pillow in his hand again. It was really nice.
Samuel couldn't tolerate him any longer. "Why did you call me? If it's just to hear you brag, I’m leaving—I’m not interested."
Nicholas responded, "I promised Miss Simmons from Horizon Enterprises that I'd help her get the company back."
"Then go get it. You don't need to report to me," Samuel said, getting up. He was really running out of time. He had rushed back from abroad, barely had time to eat while reviewing documents, and it wasn't to sleep in the study. "I'm going back," he said.
Nicholas said, "I currently have the identity of Nicholas. The Ramsey family and the Simmons family have no connection. It's inconvenient for me to get involved; it would easily expose me."
Samuel looked at him in shock. How shameless could Nicholas be to so naturally ask Samuel to work for free? It was one thing when he was missing, but now he was back.
Samuel said, "You don't think you've hidden it well, do you?"
Nicholas responded, "No one recognized me except Matthew, and that was only because I lost my composure."
Winona didn't recognize him either. Not only did she not recognize him, but when Nicholas kissed her, she didn't refuse.
Thinking of this, he felt the joy he had when receiving the pillow instantly vanish.
Samuel was speechless, gave Nicholas a look of exasperation, and walked out the door.
