Chapter 326 In What Capacity Are You Making This Request?

The next day.

As soon as Winona got to the museum, a colleague pulled her aside. "Winona, did you hear? Aleah confessed. They're saying she'll be sentenced next month."

"Aleah confessed?"

She had set Aleah up to cause a scene at the manor in front of Frank, but now Aleah had confessed. It seemed the Turner family was sticking together.

"What do you think Aleah was after? She was about to retire, and now her reputation and career are ruined."

Winona smirked. "Who knows? Maybe she's just getting old and can't let things go."

Aleah's confession didn't bother Winona much. If Eva were that easy to deal with, she wouldn't have gotten away with so much for so long.

But she hadn't expected Frank to come looking for her.

"Miss Sullivan, got a minute?"

Frank was dressed casually but looked refined, his expression unreadable.

Seeing Frank this time, Winona's feelings were more complicated. Before, he was just Eva's uncle and a suspect in her mom's murder, making him detestable. But now, things were different.

Winona didn't respond, and Frank didn't push her.

Half a minute later.

She nodded. "Alright, there's a café nearby. We can talk there if you don't mind."

The café had a calm, elegant vibe.

They got a table at the corner. Winona ordered milk tea, and Frank got lemonade.

In just a few minutes, several messages popped up on her phone on the table.

Winona said, "If you have something to say, just say it."

"Eva's young and immature. I've sent her back to A City to think about her actions. Before she leaves, she'll come to apologize to you personally."

"An apology isn't necessary. Not everyone can afford Miss Turner's apologies," Winona looked at him, pausing. "If you're really sorry, why not reveal the truth and let the law decide, instead of cleaning up Miss Turner's mess while pretending to be deeply apologetic to the victims? What do you think?"

She really didn't like the Turner family.

She also had no fondness for the head of the Turner family, who couldn't tell right from wrong.

Even though Frank was her mom's first love, she still didn't like the man in front of her.

Her mom had a keen eye for antiques, but her taste in men was lacking.

The atmosphere got noticeably quieter.

Winona didn't mind. She took a sip of her milk tea. "You didn't come to see me just to talk about this, did you?"

If that were the case, Rodolfo could have come instead.

Frank looked at Winona, his lips pressed into a firm line, his jaw tight—a serious and resolute expression. "Stop investigating your mother's case."

"What?"

Winona had thought he might ask about her mom's life over the years, how she was doing, or maybe he'd be honest about his relationship with her mom, or something else.

But none of that happened.

Then again, they were exes, so there probably wasn't much feeling left.

Frank, though older now, had only a few more wrinkles than in his youth. His features still showed he must have been a handsome and striking young man. Coupled with the Turner family's background, he certainly wasn't lacking in female attention.

And according to Carlos, her mom and her ex hadn't parted on good terms.

So it all made sense.

Frank didn't want her digging around, just like he protected Eva.

Winona narrowed her eyes. "You know who hurt my mom, don't you?"

The Turner family of A City had thrived for years because of their large numbers, unity, and involvement in military, political, and commercial sectors.

Messing with such a deeply rooted family would be like stirring up a hornet's nest.

An estranged ex-girlfriend versus a valuable ally—any fool would know whom to choose.

Frank sighed. "I'm doing this for your own good. Even if your mom were still alive, she'd want you to live a peaceful life, not be troubled by the past..."

Winona laughed, her eyes cold. "Mr. Turner, in what capacity are you making this request? My mom was just an old acquaintance of yours, and I don't even know you well. From any perspective, your request is quite..."

She paused, then continued bluntly, "It's quite presumptuous."

She pulled out $20 from her wallet and placed it under the cup, grabbing her bag as she stood up. "Consider today's lemonade on me as an apology for my rudeness. We have different paths and can't work together. Let's avoid private meetings like this in the future."

Frank frowned. "Miss Sullivan!" But all he got in response was Winona's resolute back.

With a cold expression, she quickly walked out of the café, fearing that if she slowed down, she might turn back and throw her unfinished milk tea in Frank's face.

The Turner family was detestable from top to bottom, without exception.

Winona walked back to the museum parking lot to get her car. She checked her phone on the way and saw several messages from Zachary.

[There's a last-minute meeting tonight. Are you off work? Want to have dinner at the Bailey Group?]

[Dylan's choice of food is terrible.]

[Winona, I miss you.]

[Why aren't you replying?]

[Winona?]

Zachary's name showed he was typing.

This was the first time Winona had seen Zachary send so many messages, and they were all trivial. When she had worked at the Bailey Group, he was so busy he wished he had eight hands. He didn't even have time to rest his eyes after using eye drops, let alone check his phone.

She called him directly.

He answered immediately, "Winona!"

"Have you eaten?"

Zachary tossed his fork aside, pushing away the half-eaten takeout, and said without a hint of guilt, "No."

"I haven't either. Do you have time later? I'll treat you to dinner, somewhere near the Bailey Group."

Winona was exhausted and didn't want to drive across half of Dreamopolis during rush hour to the Bailey Group, but she was in a bad mood and didn't want to be alone.

Zachary completely ignored Dylan, who was frantically pointing to the itinerary marked with the clear schedule of the next three meetings. "I do."

Winona replied, "I'll go get my car now, it should take about..."

Behind her.

Screams erupted.

Winona instinctively turned around, and the scene before her made her eyes widen, her whole body freezing in place, her mind blank, unable to react.
