Chapter 688 Crying for Half an Hour

After dinner, Lydia wanted to drag Winona out for some shopping, but Zachary stepped in, looking frustrated. "Mom, today's my wedding day with Winona. Can't you give us some time alone?"

Lydia gave him a look, but it wasn't as harsh as before. "Alright, I'm giving her back to you."

She let go of Winona's arm and gently nudged her towards Zachary. "We need to set the wedding banquet date soon."

Lydia then took Evander's arm and walked away, posting a nine-photo collage on her social media. Eight were stunning shots of Winona, and one was the cover of their marriage registration.

Within minutes, her phone buzzed non-stop with messages. Some people didn't know Winona and, given Lydia's superficial friendships, their questions were dripping with sarcasm.

[I hadn't heard Zachary had a girlfriend. How did he suddenly get married? Who is she? I haven't seen her at any of the usual high-society events.]

[But I guess today's younger generation is different from ours—they're all about free love and don't care much for the old-fashioned ideas of matching social statuses. Still, with Zachary's abilities, he doesn't need any help from the outside.]

Winona didn't like attending parties unless she absolutely had to, so it was normal for those socialite wives who loved to attend every event not to know her.

But the condescending tone, as if anyone they hadn't met was a nobody, was really off-putting.

Lydia glanced at the chat window, seeing a username she didn't even bother to save with a real name. Who did this person think they were to talk like that?

Lydia replied: [It's normal you don't know her. She doesn't like crowds and only attends work-related events when she can't avoid it. The guest lists and workplaces at those events are top-tier, unlike the boring gatherings we usually attend. You can't just go to those if you want to.]

Lydia was the queen of sarcasm.

The other person was probably left speechless, as the chat showed "typing..." for a long time without any message coming through. Finally, they sent a dry laugh emoji.

Evander, about to start the car, turned to see her smirking at her phone. "Who did you roast this time?"

"Some clueless person. I don't even know who she is, but she came at me with that tone, as if my son's wife needs her approval first."

After shutting down one person, Lydia moved on to the next. Within half an hour, the news spread that the president of the Bailey Group was married.

Meanwhile, Winona, unaware of all this, sat in the car, watching the passing scenery. "Where are we going?"

Zachary held her hand, his eyes sparkling with joy. "We're going on a date."

Winona thought he was taking her to a mall, where they could shop, eat, watch a movie, have afternoon tea, and enjoy various activities. It would be easy to spend the whole day there.

But to her surprise, Zachary took her to an amusement park.

Looking at the whimsical place in front of her, even with the tickets Zachary handed her, Winona had to confirm, "You really want to play here?"

It was their wedding day, and Winona had dressed Zachary in formal attire: shirt, tie, cufflinks, dress pants, and leather shoes, which didn't match the park's atmosphere at all.

"Yeah," Zachary said, removing his tie, unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt, taking off his cufflinks, and rolling up his sleeves to his elbows. Though he looked less formal, he still stood out among the casually dressed young crowd.

Winona chuckled softly, letting Zachary lead her to the ticket gate. It was a weekday afternoon, so the park was nearly empty, and they entered without any hassle.

Once inside, they still had a bit of a walk to the rides. They strolled leisurely, hand in hand.

She asked, "Why did you think of coming here?"

No matter how she looked at it, she couldn't see Zachary being interested in a place meant for kids. Was he secretly into this stuff?

Zachary replied, "You like it."

Winona was taken aback, then realized what he meant. If she hadn't read his journal last night, she wouldn't have understood the significance behind his words.

It was an ordinary day when she and Layla had a huge fight over something trivial. In front of Carlos and Layla, she ended up in a physical altercation, and Carlos slapped her.

She ran out of the house, wandering aimlessly until she found herself at the amusement park entrance.

Her mom had promised to take her there before she passed away, so she subconsciously ended up there.

That night, with a red, swollen handprint on her face, she cried for half the night at the park entrance.

Such incidents were so common in her life that she quickly forgot about crying at the amusement park.

But last night, she saw it in Zachary's journal, which brought back the memory: [April 20th, XXXX, Winona ran away from home and cried at the amusement park entrance for three and a half hours. I followed her in my car, but she didn't notice me.]

Winona asked, "You were there the whole time?"

Watching me cry like an abandoned puppy.

Zachary naturally continued, his voice low and a bit aggrieved, "Yeah, I followed you the whole way, and you didn't notice."

That morning, he habitually opened his journal and saw the last few pages with Winona's writing, realizing the secret was out.

Since it was out, there was no need to hide anymore. Winona knew his situation now, so he focused on her words, his fingers tracing the indented marks on the paper, his eyes slightly misty.
