Chapter 35 Ms. Sullivan Wants More Property
Police station.
The four of them sat on opposite sides of a long desk. The leading officer was taking statements, "Who acted first?"
He had already reviewed the surveillance footage, and now it was just a routine inquiry.
There were injuries on all of them, especially Fiona. Her cheeks were covered in countless slap marks, swollen and red, and her hair was as messy as a bird's nest.
If it weren't for seeing her ID, no one would associate her with an international elegant dancer.
Emily pointed at Rebecca, who still resembled a cockfighting rooster, "She was the one who bumped into Fiona first, officer. Individuals like her should be kept in custody for ten years. If she is allowed to roam freely in society, who knows when she will snap again!"
Rebecca sneered, chin raised, "I'm just doing a public service. If we were in ancient times, shameless mistresses like her would be burned alive!"
"Shameless?" Fiona looked at Winona, who had barely been injured. Back in the dress shop, Rebecca, the shrew, always protected her, facing two against one. "Why don't you ask your good friend here who the mistress really is? How did she manage to marry Zachary in the first place?"
Winona showed no fear as she met Fiona's gaze confidently, each word clear, "When I married him, you two were already broken up. So, are you a dog? Is marking the territory with a pee spot always yours?"
As she finished speaking,
Two people walked in from outside the door, with Zachary in the lead and Anthony carrying a briefcase behind him. Their temperaments were different, but both exuded a strong aura. As they entered, the spacious police station suddenly felt cramped.
Winona replayed her words in her mind, certain that Zachary had heard them. The way he was looking at her now could freeze a person to death with its coldness!
Anthony walked straight up to Fiona. "Miss Clark, the procedures are complete. You and your agent can leave now."
Fiona didn't respond. She got up and approached Zachary, tilting her head back to allow the man to get a clearer view of the injuries on her face. Though the swollen and bruised look was ugly, it could better ignite a man's compassion.
She asked, "What about the person who caused this?"
According to the surveillance footage, Winona never laid a hand on anyone, with Rebecca protecting her the whole time, so the police wouldn't detain her. But Rebecca couldn't escape.
Zachary's gaze swept over Winona. At this moment, the woman's expression could be described as indifferent. The chilling coldness radiated from his handsome face. "Press charges against her for intentional harm. The minimum sentence is one year. Anthony will handle these matters, so you don't need to worry. Let's go."
After uttering these words, he turned around and left with Fiona, not stopping for a moment.
Winona sensed the seriousness in Zachary's words, and her heart raced in panic. She stood up to pursue him, but Rebecca held her back. "Don't go begging that bitch couple. I can find a solution."
Winona furrowed her brow in reminder, "That's Anthony... There's nothing he can't handle. I can't just watch Rebecca go to jail."
This delay allowed Zachary and Fiona to already get into the car when she chased after them.
"Zachary..." Winona walked quickly in the direction of the car.
The man's indifferent gaze swept over, his eyes devoid of any warmth. The curve of his lips carried a chilly air. "Drive."
Brian dared not disobey his command. "Yes."
Just as Brian was about to shut the car door, Winona raced over and grabbed the door handle. She looked at the man inside the car. "Zachary, it was Fiona's people who started it."
Zachary responded with a half-smile. "But I only saw Fiona with the most severe injuries. If you hurt someone, you should face the appropriate consequences. Do I need to teach such a simple principle?"
"...But it was still a mutual fight; Rebecca was hurt too." She carefully considered her words. "You can't be so unreasonable."
Zachary narrowed his eyes as he looked at Winona. It was then that he noticed her injuries as well, a scratch on her neck that had already scabbed over. It wasn't severe, but with her fair skin, it still had a somewhat shocking appearance.
Even so, Zachary remained unmoved. "I am indeed unreasonable. What can you do about it?"
Winona clenched her fists, her voice trembling, "You..."
She looked at the man's extremely indifferent expression and then at the slightly proud Fiona beside him, feeling an indescribable frustration and discomfort in her heart.
Zachary stared at her, as if he had just smoked a cigarette, his voice slightly hoarse. "Why did you lay hands on Fiona?"
He wanted to know the reason. Was it really just because of a skirt?
However, Winona only heard the accusation in his words. Her expression turned cold, and she replied in a firm tone, "This is a question you should ask your Miss Clark! Zachary, if you want to take revenge for her, come at me directly. Don't involve innocent people."
Upon hearing this, the man gave a cold laugh and stopped looking at her. "Brian, drive."
Brian, who seemed apologetic, glanced at Winona and closed the car door. "Madam, I apologize."
"Zachary..."
Winona wanted to stop him but was hindered the next second by Anthony.
She could only watch the car drive away while Anthony's cold and ruthless words echoed in her ears. "Mrs. Bailey, instead of entangling yourself here, you should think about how you offended Mr. Bailey."
Frowning tightly, Winona asked with a tone not so pleasant, "Is it considered an offense to hit his beloved?"
Anthony responded with a professional smile, "Yes, so your friend will suffer as a result."
He didn't say anything more after that.
Winona returned to the police station, and Ryan arrived at that moment. He went to handle the bail procedures but received the result that it couldn't be granted.
This was expected, after all, the person they offended was Zachary.
Ryan furrowed his brows and appeared serious. "It's best to negotiate with the person involved; resolving it privately would be ideal."
Winona felt a headache coming on and rubbed her temples. "If the other party insists on pressing charges and we go against Anthony, what are the chances of winning?"
Ryan paused for a moment and then shook his head. "Sorry, so far Mr. Lewis has never lost a case."
Winona and Rebecca fell silent simultaneously.
In the end, it was Winona who spoke again. "Rebecca, it looks like you'll have to endure being here for a couple of days. I'll go talk to Zachary."
Rebecca understood what she wanted to do and said, "If it doesn't work out, then forget it. Don't let yourself be bullied."
"I won't." Winona sighed deeply. Zachary also had his vulnerabilities; she could only negotiate conditions with him again.
On the way back to the hotel, Zachary remained sullen, his furrowed brow and tightly pressed lips clearly showing his displeasure at the moment.
Fiona stared at his face, unable to understand his thoughts, just like before.
"Are you angry at Winona or me?"
The words that slipped through Zachary's thin lips carried a coldness. "I told you, don't provoke her."
Fiona didn't expect him to respond this way and promptly bit her lip.
She had guessed wrong again... but she was the victim, wasn't she? Just a moment ago, he had...
When he was at the police station, wasn't he also protecting her?
