Chapter 207 We're Even Now

Since Carlos wasn't home, there was no need for her to go in. She had already searched every nook and cranny of this villa. It had been sold again, and she knew her mother's things were definitely gone.

She could have asked about this on Whatsapp, but Carlos definitely wouldn't tell the truth. She made this trip in the hopes of finding any clues on his face.

Winona called him and found out he was abroad, with an indeterminate return date.

In the following days, she contacted him continuously, but the answers she received were always uncertain.

She didn't know if it was just a coincidence or if there was some other reason.

After giving it some thought, Winona took a picture of the sketch of the painting and sent it over, asking, "Have you seen this painting before?"

"No," replied Carlos.

This road with Carlos was a dead-end. After considering it for a while, she decided to contact the mysterious person.

When she received Winona's call, the other party wasn't surprised and gave her an address, saying, "If Mrs. Sullivan is afraid, she can bring a friend along."

Winona didn't bring Rebecca Davis with her. She only sent her the address and told her to call the police if she lost contact for ten minutes.

It was a villa nestled in the mountains, nothing particularly special. Winona walked in but didn't see the boss that day. Only a maid brought her a heavily damaged painting, one-third of it, saying, "This is your test."

The test painting was severely damaged, even though it was only one-third of it, it took her nearly two weeks to repair it.

At the Bailey Group, Everyone in the company knew that Mr. Bailey hadn't been in a good mood lately. It wasn't the kind of anger that would make someone curse out loud, but rather the kind of gloomy aura that made people tremble in fear. Everyone who went in to report their work had their heads down, not daring to meet Zachary's gaze. But even so, they came out drenched in cold sweat.

Dylan Collins knocked on the door and entered. "Mr. Bailey, these two documents need your urgent attention. The engineering department is pressing for them."

Zachary's phone, which was placed beside him, lit up. He reached out, not to take the urgent documents handed to him by Dylan Collins, but to grab his phone.

After a few swipes on the screen with his slender fingers, Dylan Collins keenly sensed that Mr. Bailey, who was already in a bad mood, looked even worse after reading the Whatsapp messages. Even though the office air conditioning wasn't turned on, the temperature suddenly dropped by a few degrees, causing Mr. Bailey to shiver uncontrollably.

Zachary casually threw his expensive phone on the table like throwing a brick, causing the solid wooden table to make a loud sound. He looked up at Dylan Collins, who was standing in front of the desk, and furrowed his eyebrows. "What's the matter?"

It seemed like Zachary had paid no attention to what he had just said. He had originally wanted to mention that there were two urgent files that needed to be dealt with, but Zachary's sudden outburst made him lose his train of thought. "Mr. Bailey, were you waiting for a call from Mrs. Bailey?"

As soon as he said it, he wanted to slap himself in the face. Why did he have to be so talkative and bring up something that should be left alone?

Sure enough, Zachary coldly replied, "Of course I wasn’t. Also, we're already divorced, so please don't refer to her as Mrs. Bailey anymore." He paused for a moment and added. "To avoid any misunderstandings between us."

Since that day they had parted ways at the Chinese restaurant, they had been giving each other the silent treatment and hadn't contacted each other.

Dylan Collins's phone rang, and when he took it out to check, it was a call from the reception downstairs.

He answered it, and after just a few seconds, his face changed and he looked at Zachary with a complicated expression, "Mr. Bailey, Ms. Sullivan is downstairs and wants to see you."

Speak of the devil, indeed.

Zachary replied, "Let her come up."

Winona took the elevator upstairs, with the curious gazes of the secretarial department on her back, and entered Zachary's office.

Dylan Collins was so curious. He almost couldn't resist asking Mr. Bailey if he wanted him to stay. After all, they were already ex-spouses, and sharing a room together could easily lead to misunderstandings. However, he managed to hold back. But Ms. Sullivan didn't treat him as an outsider at all. Instead of waiting for him to leave, she directly took out a bank card and handed it to Zachary, saying, "All the money I owe you is in here. We're even now."

"Damn," whispered Dylan Collins.

Good lord, this was going to blow up. It's going to be a big mess!

Zachary looked at the bank card on the table, his face turning cold as ice, "Who gave you the money this time?"

"Why can't it be money I earned myself?" replied Winona.

The money she borrowed from Rebecca Davis has already been returned by him. Excluding what she had already paid, there was still a shortfall of over two billion. “ With your current job, you won't be able to earn that much in such a short time, unless you robbed a bank," Zachary said without any hint of mockery or condescension in his tone.

It's not that she couldn't earn the money, but the time was too short and her job required a longer period.

Winona replied, "You don't have to worry about that. The money is here, and we're all settled."

A frown appeared on Zachary's forehead. "Are you so eager to separate yourself from me?"

Winona nodded. "Yes."

She was here to pay back the money and leave, without any unnecessary words or lingering.

Just as she opened the door slightly, she heard hurried footsteps behind her. Then a hand reached out and forcefully closed the door with a bang.

Zachary propped up the door with one hand and used the other to turn her around, placing a bank card in her palm. "Once I give you the money, it's yours. I never intended for you to repay it. I paid off that debt for you and you married me as we agreed before. It's an equal exchange, without owing each other anything."

"But we're already divorced," Winona said.

Perhaps it was because she had experienced the desperate situation of begging for money and being turned away, she felt a slight touch of gratitude when she heard his words.

Zachary snorted coldly. "Following your logic, I could buy a pair of shoes, wear them for three years, and then return them to the store for a refund, and the store would still have to give me back the money?"

‘Grateful my ass! Zachary doesn't deserve it!’

"As for this money, it should go back to where it came from. You're still a young girl, don't ask for other people's money so casually. You're so naive," he said. If it weren't for ulterior motives, who would be so generous and give away over two billion like that? Money doesn't come this easily.

After handing the bank card to Winona, Zachary took out a black card from his wallet. "The interest will be deducted from this card. There is no limit. Settle it in one go. Don't leave any loose ends for people to bother you. If the other party is hard to handle, bring Dylan Collins with you."

After saying this, he also stuffed the black card into her palm.

As Winona's fingers touched the edge of the black card, she blanched and recoiled.

The card fell to the ground.

She said, "I'm sorry, I can't accept it."

"Why?" Zachary looked at her face, and a dark emotion surged in his eyes. "Don't want any involvement with me, afraid that I'll take advantage of you again?"
