Chapter 227 Secrets Unknown to Others
Before the meeting, Austin wasn't afraid of facing thousands of people, let alone just these few reporters. His presence and attire alone made others fear him.
Winona was protected by his arm around her, causing the approaching reporters to instinctively keep their distance and not dare to touch her with their microphones. "Is it true that Mrs. Sullivan drugged Fiona, as rumored online?"
Austin's hand on Winona's shoulder lifted, covering her mouth. The force wasn't strong, but it served as a deterrent, appearing more like a form of protection. He smiled nonchalantly and said, "To be targeted, one must excel. What aspect of Fiona makes Mrs. Sullivan jealous enough to spend time targeting her?"
Upon careful consideration, other than dancing, there seemed to be nothing for Winona to be jealous of Fiona. In contrast, Winona excelled in her own field, a prominent figure in the industry, with no need to target anyone.
However, the reporters were unwilling to give up. With such a major news story in front of them, it would be a waste if they couldn't uncover some explosive insider information after waiting for so long. "But Fiona mentioned in the interview that Mrs. Sullivan drugged her out of jealousy, causing her to be humiliated in public," one of the reporters persisted.
Austin raised an eyebrow. He had always been rebellious, and this gesture made him even more unapproachable. "Whatever she says is the truth? Then should I say she drugged my girlfriend too?" His voice paused.
Winona pinched him, warning him not to speak recklessly about their relationship. Austin hissed in pain but continued, "Drugging someone. Even God couldn't turn a blind eye. The retribution fell back on her. Do you believe it?"
He had now become Winona's spokesperson, single-handedly silencing the group of reporters. He then leaned away from Winona, afraid of being pinched again and added, "After all, anyone with eyes can see who is jealous of whom. If I ever see any of you spreading baseless rumors again or defaming Winona, I'll send a lawyer's letter to your company every day."
Laughter erupted from the crowd, mocking his futile attempts. It was mainly because Austin had a modest background. He had served in the military before and didn't flaunt his family's wealth. His attire was understated, and his car was just a regular mid-range brand, mostly modified for practicality, making it hard for the uninitiated to see its value. However, the laughter soon died down, probably because they had secretly investigated his background.
After Austin finished speaking, he put his arm around Winona's shoulder and they got into the car. The reporters wanted to continue asking, but considering the prestigious background of the other party, they didn't dare to obstruct or even extend their microphones too far forward.
As the door was about to close, Austin provocatively tilted his chin toward the direction of the Night Club and said to the nearest reporter, "Why don't you go ask Mr. Bailey? After all, he has such a good relationship with Ms. Clark. Maybe he knows some secrets that are not known to the public."
Mr. Bailey was someone they couldn't afford to provoke. Interviews with him had to be scheduled in advance, and the questions had to be approved.
Who would dare to bother him with these miscellaneous questions? Are they tired of living?
With a loud bang, Austin mercilessly slammed the car door shut.
A group of timid people, not daring to even walk on the same path! Zachary definitely knew what was going on.
Austin said to Rebecca, "Go to the driver's seat."
Rebecca was about to ask Winona what was going on, but when she heard that, she sneered and said, "Why should I go to the driver's seat? I should be crawling under the car, not sitting inside."
Austin actually took it seriously and thought about it for a moment. "That works too. Then you get out."
Winona nudged him with her elbow. "You two always end up arguing whenever you're together." The two of them had been arguing since they first met.
Rebecca didn't get out of the car. The door was blocked by the group of reporters, so she climbed from the back seat to the driver's seat.
Austin was looking at the gossip news online. Although Fiona was just a minor actress, she had a good reputation in the dance world and had accumulated quite a few die-hard fans. Now, all of them were flocking to Winona's Facebook, leaving all sorts of vulgar and abusive comments. He scrolled through them one by one, his brows furrowing tightly. "What's going on?"
Winona briefly explained the situation, skipping the part about Matthew and Zachary. Austin's face turned extremely ugly, his temper flaring up. He didn't care about being polite or considerate. "Damn it, that woman must have been raised on poison. She's so malicious. Only someone like Zachary, a big shot, can punish her."
The way he spoke made Winona suspect that he was gloating, but she had no evidence.
Austin then asked, "So, what do we do now? Should I contact my connections to suppress the news?" In the military, they were used to being straightforward and taking action. They didn't deal with problems by beating around the bush. But this wasn't the military. Beating someone up wouldn't solve the problem. Otherwise, he would have rolled up his sleeves and given Fiona a beating, forcing her to clarify.
Winona leaned over to look at the content he had opened. "I copied the surveillance footage." Whether it was the part where Fiona drugged Matthew or the scene in the manager's office, exposing it would prove that Fiona had the idea first. Although she would still face criticism, they would be evenly matched, and no one would come out unscathed.
If Fiona wanted to drag Winona down, they would go to hell together.
But it wasn't the right time yet. They had to wait for the situation to escalate. Right now, most of the attention was on Fiona's fans. Even if they found out that their idol was at fault, they would try to come up with explanations.
With rumors swirling around Winona, she couldn't go anywhere else. Rebecca brought her directly to her own home, and they ordered takeout for lunch. "Your apartment is definitely exposed now. You can stay at my place for a few days," Rebecca suggested.
Sitting on the soft sofa, Winona finally had time to check the news on her phone. "Damn it, Fiona thinks she's the only one who can buy data. We bought it too, twice as much as hers. Let's see how she handles the backlash."
Austin clicked his tongue in annoyance and said, "You're at least a woman. Can't you be a bit more subtle? I, as a man, can't even say such things. If you keep going like this..."
"You're talking as if you're a modest gentleman. I don't believe you've never said anything explicit to your buddies," Winona retorted. Especially since he hardly saw any women throughout the year, it was all just a group of people relying on imagination.
Rebecca stared at her phone and suddenly exclaimed, "What's going on here?"
