Chapter 97 Smacking Fiona
Dylan had been here before, assisting Zachary in gathering materials, so he knew the location of his study. Making his way to the door with familiarity, he said, "Miss Winona, Mrs. Bailey sent me to... see if you've found her report card."
He had listened to the entire conversation downstairs and knew there was no report card in the study. Winona looked up, her eyes slightly red, her face pale as a sheet. When she gazed at Dylan, her expression seemed vacant yet dazed, though her gaze fell upon him, it was as if she wasn't really seeing him.
Dylan asked, "Are you feeling unwell?" "No," Winona took the painting out from the drawer, not avoiding Dylan's gaze. As she walked towards the door, she noticed his perplexed glance at the artwork she held, and she even gestured towards him with a smile, asking, "Is it beautiful? I plan on taking it back and hanging it on the bedroom wall."
Dylan looked at the painting, which had a dark and gloomy color tone and style, and swallowed his saliva. He didn't say anything, but Winona could tell from his expression what he was thinking.
When she created this painting, she was already struggling during her days in the Sullivan family, oppressed by her stepfather and stepmother. Layla, who competed with her every step of the way and challenged her at every opportunity, made her mood far from good.
If not for her remaining kindness, she would have taken a knife in the middle of the night and killed them all. A painting with mood as its theme created under such circumstances would seem eerie and sinister.
So, when it was sold, she once thought she had encountered a foolish person with too much money, perhaps her academic adviser even thought the same, as they had even taken her to buy lottery tickets several times.
But now, it seemed that the foolish one was not the person who bought the painting, but herself. In order to make his girlfriend smile, he spent some of his precious money and added a dark history that cast a shadow over her life, instantly plunging her into the vortex of verbal abuse. Walking downstairs and meeting Lydia's concerned gaze, Winona forced a faint smile.
"Mom, I have something urgent to attend to. Can Sarah accompany you to the hospital for the follow-up? The doctor has all the details on the report, so you can go directly."
"Alright," Lydia observed her expression carefully. Something's not right. She doesn't seem happy at all. Lydia asked tentatively, "Winona, did you see something special in Zachary's study? Why do you look upset after going up there?"
Winona didn't want Lydia to worry, so she replied, "Well, I did see something special, but I'm not upset. I'm just a bit shocked, so I need to go find Zachary now."
Hearing this, Lydia felt relieved and patted Winona's hand, saying, "Alright, go talk it out with him when couples have a disagreement. Don't keep it inside. Don't bring up divorce so easily; it's not auspicious. I'll have the driver take you."
"No need, I drove myself."
After leaving Crest Manor, Winona went straight to the Bailey Group and headed to the floor where Zachary's office was located, as she was familiar with the place.
The receptionist tried to stop her, but she claimed to be there to handle resignation procedures in the Human Resources department, so she was allowed to go up.
Everyone in the company knew that Winona had connections to get in. Her work was easy, the pay was high, and she had the opportunity to interact closely with Mr. Bailey. Furthermore, since her departure, the coveted position that made most people envious remained vacant.
Currently, only Mr. Collins stood by Mr. Bailey's side.
While Dylan accompanied Lydia to the hospital for a check-up and wasn't present, it was Dylan's assistant who intercepted Winona.
"Miss Sullivan, do you have an appointment? Without one, you can't go in."
Winona paid no attention to him. She knew where Zachary's office was and didn't need him to show the way. However, the annoying hand that kept blocking her path made her lose patience. "Didn't Dylan tell you who I am?"
The assistant wasn't as experienced as Dylan, so he couldn't remain calm. Stuttering, he replied, "H-he did, but Miss Sullivan, there is a guest in Mr. Bailey's office right now. Perhaps you can wait in the reception area?"
Winona noticed his eagerness to dismiss her and raised an eyebrow. "Is it a woman?"
As they spoke, they had already reached the entrance of Zachary's office. Winona opened the door directly and, as expected, Fiona was inside.
Fiona was dressed in light-colored clothes, with her long black hair flowing down, partially obscuring her cheek. She sat with her elegant posture, crossing her legs and holding herself with an air of pride.
Seeing Winona suddenly appear at the door, Zachary frowned slightly. He gestured for the assistant who was nervously explaining to leave, saying, "You can leave for now."
The assistant felt reborn and lower his voice as he left, speaking to Winona, "Miss Clark arrived only half a minute before you."
He did that to avoid any misunderstanding on Winona's part.
Fiona
With a forced smile, Fiona reluctantly acknowledged her current status and realized that she had no right to refuse: "Winona, I came to find Zachary because..."
Winona didn't pay her any attention, not even a glance. Instead, she walked straight towards Zachary.
Anyone could sense that something was wrong with her overwhelming momentum.
Fiona hesitated for a moment and reflexively stood up from the sofa, following Winona to the desk within a few steps.
Without saying a word, Winona raised her hand and slapped the man sitting on the office chair.
The cold wind generated by the slap gently brushed Zachary's forehead.
"Winona, have you gone mad?" Fiona's voice was filled with anger, evident through her disheveled and rushed breathing. She grabbed Winona's hand, stopping the slap. "I came to talk to Zachary about work. Our dance troupe's manager was supposed to come with me, but she went to the restroom right before we entered. You just came in and started hitting people. Isn't your jealousy going too far and causing unnecessary trouble?"
Winona coldly withdrew her hand, then swiftly slapped Fiona across the face with her other hand. She also grabbed the coffee on the desk and poured it onto Zachary's face.
The entire sequence of actions flowed seamlessly, preventing anyone from intervening.
After completing all this, Winona finally spoke with a triumphant tone, "Am I causing trouble for no reason?"
She threw the painting in her hand onto the desk and raised her eyebrow mockingly and disdainfully, "Aren't you all despicable and shameless? To stoop so low over a petty argument at school, committing such despicable acts without any morality. What goes around comes around, and you will face the consequences. Of course, you are shameless, but aren't you worried about your children suffering the consequences in the future? After all, such shameless acts will naturally affect future generations."
She didn't stop talking, leaving no opportunity for anyone to interrupt.
Winona admitted to herself that she had never been so malicious before. Even when she cursed someone out, she never involved their parents or children. However, now she didn't hold back her words, which revealed just how angry she was.
Zachary hadn't said a word since Winona entered. His gaze remained fixed on the painting until this moment when he finally spoke, "Apologize."
