Chapter 346 Does It Hurt Anywhere
The melancholic mood was instantly dispelled. Winona rubbed her temples speechlessly and, using her hand as a shield, glared sideways at Austin. "You’re leaving, so can you not be so rude? Do you want to be bedridden for ten days or half a month?"
Lowering his voice, Austin replied, "You don't get it. Men are all masochists. The more they can't have something, the more they desire it. Once they completely own it, they feel there's no challenge. Over time, and then they will lose interest in you, and their thoughts start drifting to other women. You have to make him feel a constant sense of crisis, let him know that even without him, countless men are after you. Only then will he cherish you."
Winona bared her teeth and gave Austin a look of indescribable complexity. "Most people insult others, but you're insulting yourself."
Zachary's gaze swept over the two of them.
Austin and Winona stood on the steps, bathed in the sunset, the light seemingly melting them together. Attractive men and women always looked more compatible than ordinary people.
The scene was as beautiful as a painting.
Zachary stood at a moderate distance from them, yet it felt like an insurmountable, distinct line separated them.
The more Zachary looked at this scene, the more pain he felt. He was Winona's husband, yet no one ever said they were a good match. However, he couldn't blame others. Winona was like a porcupine around him, always jabbing at his heart without mercy. She would even reflect on how she could do better next time. It would be strange if they were a good match.
Zachary walked over, stepped onto the stairs, and stood beside Winona, forcefully inserting himself into the picture.
The relaxed atmosphere was instantly replaced by a tense one, and even the soft light of the sunset seemed aggressive.
Before Winona could explain the previous scene, Zachary pulled her into his embrace. He was so strong, fearing her rejection, that he almost wanted to embed her into his body.
The scorching breath enveloped her, wrapping her tightly.
Zachary asked in a low voice, "Didn't you say you were coming to pick me up from the office?"
Winona looked up in surprise, full of confusion.
'When did I say I was going to pick you up from the office?' she thought.
"Why do you need someone to pick you up after work? Are you still in kindergarten?" Austin mocked.
"Winona, you should find a man who spoils you. Now it’s like raising a child, dropping him off at work and picking him up after. How exhausting!"
"That's better than someone who needs a woman to take him in," Zachary retorted.
"She's willing to take me in. Why don't you try it? Get yourself seriously injured and see if she'll rush to take you home and find a doctor to treat you, or if she'll kick you into a pigsty." Austin rolled up his sleeves. "Do you need my help? I'm afraid you won't have the heart to do it."
They just reconciled, his position wasn't even stable yet, and he was already commanding Winona to pick him up. The Dreamopolis Museum was halfway across Dreamopolis from the Bailey Group. This was not realistic.
"Alright." Zachary began unbuttoning his shirt cuffs, a chilling, sinister look rising in his narrowed eyes. That feeling had been pent up in his chest since he saw them hugging, and now he finally had a chance to vent.
"Can you stop being childish?" Winona hurriedly pulled them apart. She looked at Austin. "I'll have the driver take you.”
"No need." Zachary raised an eyebrow, his mood instantly shifting from gloomy to cheerful. "Are you leaving?"
Austin rolled his eyes at him, noting the speed of his mood change.
Winona said, “Yes."
"I'll call the driver." Zachary took out his phone to dial and even instructed the bodyguard to bring out a chair for Austin to sit on. He handled everything with care.
Winona's temples throbbed violently, and she looked at him speechlessly.
Zachary said, "It's safer to have someone take you. If your wound opens up on the way, you might blame us."
Austin looked speechless, but having decided to let Winona go, he didn't bother arguing with Zachary anymore. "No need. If you really want me to leave quickly, just lend me your car. I'll have someone return it to you tomorrow."
Zachary snorted, "I don't lend my car."Austin wasn't angry at being refused, he just dragged out his words, "I just told Winona that I won't like her anymore and wished her happiness with you. But since you said that, then I..."
He reached out to hook Winona's shoulder. However, before his fingers could touch her clothes, Zachary stepped forward, blocking her behind him, and handed the car keys to him. "Be careful on the road Take care, and don't bother returning the car."
He didn’t want Austin to show up in front of Winona again.
Both Austin and Winona felt speechless.
Winona wasn't comfortable with Austin driving himself, but Austin insisted, "I have some matters to handle, and it's inconvenient to have someone else around. My injury is on my left leg, and it doesn't affect driving."
Austin gave Winona a deep look, then finally smiled, "I'm off."
Although his leg wasn't affected, the injury on Austin's chest still was. Holding the steering wheel pulled at the wound, causing pain from his chest to his shoulder and down to his arm.
In no time, Austin's face turned pale, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.
This area was Dreamopolis's top-tier wealthy district, full of standalone villas with large grounds, so there were hardly any cars on the road, let alone pedestrians.
The trees on both sides were lush, bathed in the warm glow of the sunset, and the asphalt road was glaringly bright.
Austin wasn't wearing sunglasses and was driving into the light, making it hard to keep his eyes open. He raised his hand to lower the sun visor above the windshield.
Suddenly, a figure darted out in front of him, as if being chased by a ghost, running straight across the road without looking.
The person appeared so close to the car that Austin couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman. His heart tightened, and he reflexively slammed on the brakes.
The screeching sound of the brakes startled the birds in the trees, sending them flying in all directions.
Meanwhile, his car made a 'bang' sound, and the person was knocked half a meter away.
Austin was shocked.
Even a driving legend couldn't stop in time for this.
Luckily, he was driving slowly and braked in time. Otherwise, with such a sudden close appearance, the person would have been seriously injured.
The person lying on the ground had long hair, and their clothes were covered in mud and dust, looking like they were fleeing from a disaster.
Austin opened the door and got out, dialing 911 on his phone as he walked towards the person. "Is there any bleeding or pain anywhere?"
The person was still conscious and was trying to prop themselves up to sit.
