Chapter 562 You Beast

Zachary shot her a look that clearly said, "She's nuts, just ignore her."

Winona was speechless.

Unlike the calm demeanor of the other two, Austin was anything but calm. He choked on his breath and coughed, stammering, "What did you call her?"

Abigail had just blurted out a teasing nickname for Winona. Now, with three pairs of eyes on her, she felt a bit awkward. But if she tried to cover it up, it would only make things worse. If she messed up Zachary's relationship, the Watson family might as well be done for in Dreamopolis.

No point in beating around the bush, Abigail decided to come clean. She pointed to Zachary on the hospital bed, "Mr. Bailey is the future partner of the Watson family. Anyone who invests money these days, we call them our benefactor."

She then pointed to Winona, "Mr. Bailey's wife is also a benefactor."

Austin was at a loss for words.

That explanation was flawless, leaving no room for rebuttal. He had to admit, it was impressive.

Austin and Abigail had run into each other downstairs by pure coincidence. He had been wondering when she and Zachary had gotten close enough for her to visit him in the hospital.

"Mr. Bailey, I wish you a speedy recovery. I'll be going now," Abigail said. She had only come to make an appearance, after much hesitation. Nicholas's injury and hospitalization were well-known, and since they were on the same team, not visiting would seem heartless. But visiting was awkward since they weren't close.

Zachary nodded.

As Abigail left, she pulled Austin along with her.

Austin, who had been working out for years, had rough, calloused hands and a tan complexion. Abigail, on the other hand, had been pampered all her life, with smooth, delicate skin. The contrast between their hands was stark.

Austin felt like he was holding a piece of tofu, afraid to squeeze too hard and break it.

"Let go," Austin frowned.

Instead of letting go, Abigail tightened her grip. "Let go? They're a loving couple, and you're just standing there being a third wheel. Are you trying to make your buzz cut more noticeable or what?"

Austin was almost speechless with frustration. She always knew where to hit him where it hurt, quick and precise, without hesitation.

As they passed by Winona, Austin's gaze suddenly sharpened. He turned to look at Zachary, who was lying on the bed with both legs in casts, and gritted his teeth, "You're such a beast, thinking about that even now."

Winona was wearing a loose, round-neck sweater today. Austin, being tall, could see down her slightly open collar to a faint kiss mark on her collarbone.

Zachary was speechless.

Austin turned back to Winona, his voice low and full of concern, "Wait until Zachary recovers before deciding if you want to be with him. What if he ends up with a limp? Didn't he hit his head too? What if he becomes an idiot? Marriage is a lifelong commitment; you need to think it through."

He glanced in a certain direction, "Especially since someone has a history. Be extra careful. Don't let him get his way before then."

Winona knew he had seen the mark on her collarbone. Her cheeks flushed, and she mumbled, "Okay."

But ultimately, it was Winona's decision. He could only advise her so much.

Even so...

Austin was still in a foul mood. He had protected Winona since high school, and now seeing her with Zachary felt like watching a wild boar trample his precious cabbage. He was still scowling as they left the hospital room.

Abigail smirked, "You've decided to let go, so why are you still so involved? If they want to hug, let them hug. If they want to kiss, let them kiss. Are you trying to be her brother now? That's a bit creepy, don't you think?"

Austin frowned, "Do you have a beach house?"

"How did you know?"

Dreamopolis wasn't by the sea, but any wealthy family had beach houses and yachts. She thought Austin wanted to borrow one and was about to explain that her properties were currently in the hands of her ex, Kurt, and she couldn't guarantee access. But then Austin coldly said, "No wonder you meddle so much."

Abigail was speechless.

She was so angry she wanted to curse, but the impulse quickly faded when she saw Audrey.

They were on opposite sides of the elevator, their eyes meeting in a silent clash.

Audrey glanced at Austin, "Abigail, are you taking the next one, or...?"

Abigail cursed under her breath and stepped in. Why should she avoid her in a public place?

She hadn't planned to speak to Audrey. A rotten egg attracts flies, and Kurt was a bad egg. Even if he didn't attract flies, he'd attract cockroaches and rats. There was no need to lower herself to deal with a fly over a rotten egg.

But just because Abigail didn't provoke Audrey didn't mean Audrey would leave her alone. "Kurt went to get the car. Abigail, long time no see. How about we grab a meal together?"

Abigail frowned and sniffed, asking Austin, "Do you smell something bad?"

Austin was speechless.

But Abigail treated him like a doormat, not waiting for his answer, and said, "It stinks."

Audrey cut to the chase, "You don't have to be so sarcastic. Kurt and I are legally married. If there's a mistress here, it's not me."

Abigail retorted, "A couple who has to avoid suspicion just to visit a hospital? You got your position by using my name. How does it feel? Does it make you feel ecstatic every time you think about it?"

Austin frowned, unable to hold back, "Don't use words like that."

What a choice of words.

Abigail turned to him, looking pitiful. Austin's heart skipped a beat, sensing trouble. The next second, Abigail grabbed his hand and pressed it to her soft stomach, "My stomach hurts. The baby must be dizzy from the smell. What should I do?"

His hand felt like it was touching a hot coal, and he quickly pulled it back. Abigail, seeing Audrey's wide-eyed look, was afraid he'd say something to ruin her act. She immediately started her performance.

Her eyes reddened, looking pitiful.

Austin suddenly remembered the scene at the hospital entrance where Abigail had cried and wailed, accusing her ex. People had mistaken him for the ex and pointed fingers until she stopped. The memory was painful, and without thinking, he covered Abigail's half-open mouth, "Don't wail."

In the hospital room.

Since Austin left, Zachary's face had been dark. He looked at Winona, accusingly, "He was trying to drive a wedge between us, and you just said okay."
