Chapter 629 Don't Be So Impulsive in the Future

Zachary said, "She reminds me of you back in the day, when you were cornered by those debt collectors. You were just as reckless, ready to fight anyone who crossed your path."

Winona stayed quiet.

Back then, she was young and had spent years battling Layla and her daughter, developing a fierce, unyielding spirit. When she found out Carlos had borrowed billions in her name, she decided that if she couldn't survive, she would make sure they didn't either. She fought those men with a desperate resolve.

Even though it had been a long time, Zachary still felt a chill whenever he thought about it. "Promise me you won't be so impulsive again."

Winona said, "It wasn't impulsive."

Before deciding to confront them, she had hidden in a dark, damp basement, rationally calculating that, based on Dreamopolis's average salary, she wouldn't be able to pay off the debt even if she worked for several lifetimes without eating or drinking.

But...

She looked up. "How did you know?"

It was nighttime, and the place she was cornered was deserted.

Zacharysaid, "I came looking for you and happened to see it. I wanted to play the hero, but before I could get out of the car, you had already chased them away."

Winona stayed quiet.

Although she had managed to drive them off with her recklessness, she had been badly beaten, with bruises and a limp that lasted a week.

But what she thought of now wasn't how miserable she had been, but the medicine that had mysteriously appeared at her door the next day. Winona couldn't help but laugh. "I thought some divine intervention had bought me medicine."

She hadn't considered Zachary at all back then.

In the next room.

Rebecca entered and immediately plastered herself against the wall like a gecko, trying to hear something.

Anthony came out of the shower and saw her still there, amused. "What are you doing?"

"Do you think Zachary will get rough? He seemed pretty angry when he dragged Winona in."

"He moved so fast, you could see that?"

"I didn't see his face, but the door slammed so hard it almost flattened mine," Rebecca said, touching her face with lingering fear. "Good thing I backed away quickly, or my beautiful face would have suffered."

Anthony stayed quiet.

He couldn't stand her narcissism and grabbed her by the collar, pulling her off the wall. "Go take a shower. Zachary won't get rough with Winona. You should worry about yourself instead."

"Worry about myself." Rebecca's voice stopped abruptly, her gaze falling on Anthony. He had just showered, his hair still wet, wearing only a robe with the collar slightly open. Below, his long, muscular legs were visible, both attractive and strong.

Her eyes lingered on his abdomen, covered by the fabric, and her fingers twitched involuntarily as she swallowed. "Just so you know, I'm not taking responsibility."

Anthony snorted coldly and turned to open his suitcase.

Rebecca grabbed her clothes and went to shower, only to find that the walls facing the room were frosted glass, with no blinds for privacy.

Seeing no movement behind her, Anthony smiled, thinking she was genuinely scared. "I'm gonna change and grab some food. You want anything?"

"You haven't eaten?"

"I had airplane food. I'm starving."

He could have gone without eating, but he figured if he stayed in the room, Rebecca wouldn't be able to shower properly. Though frosted glass obscured details, it still showed shadows.

Watching Anthony leave, Rebecca smiled, satisfied. He was quite the gentleman.

She quickly showered and slipped into bed in her pajamas, intending to scroll through her phone while waiting for Anthony. But she soon fell asleep.

The next morning.

Rebecca woke to find the sun already up. She turned to the other bed; Anthony was gone, the sheets neatly folded. If not for the blanket tossed on the sofa, she would have thought he hadn't come back at all.

After freshening up, Rebecca went downstairs for breakfast and saw Winona. She immediately joined her. "Everything okay last night?"

It wasn't Winona who answered, but Zachary, who appeared out of nowhere. "Where's Anthony?"

Rebecca called over a waiter to order. "You gave him a million bucks. You can't expect him to stick around forever."

Winona asked, "What million dollars?"

Rebecca leaned in, ready to spill the beans. "It's..."

Zachary interrupted, pulling out a chair for Winona. "Nothing. Anthony advanced some money to take Ms. Davis on a nice trip around Aetheria."

"Fake," Rebecca scoffed. "He gave Anthony a million bucks to keep him busy so I wouldn't mess up someone's plans."

Winona smiled silently.

Seeing no sign of anger from her, Rebecca's eyes darted between them in surprise. "You two? No way. Winona, did you forgive this..."

She wanted to say "liar," but held back. They had reconciled, and badmouthing Zachary now felt inappropriate, like stirring up trouble.

She waved her hand irritably. "Fine, if you're back together, so be it."

The waiter soon arrived, but Rebecca, feeling annoyed, had no appetite. Zachary ordered a table full of Winona's favorite dishes.

Rebecca looked at the spread and then at Zachary, who was peeling shrimp for Winona with meticulous care. With a man who was rich, handsome, and attentive, it was no wonder Winona was smitten. Rebecca doubted she could resist either.

With that thought, her mood lifted, and her appetite returned.

Winona had planned to return home today, with her ticket already booked. But with Zachary and Rebecca here, she rescheduled for the day after tomorrow.

They spent two days in Aetheria before heading home.

As soon as they got off the plane, reporters swarmed them. "Mr. Bailey, is it true that you were the one saved by the civilian hero in the recent high-altitude incident?"

"We heard Ms. Harrington needed over twenty stitches on her back to save you. Apart from taking her to the hospital, you haven't visited her since. Do you think that's ungrateful?"

The reporters were buzzing with excitement.

One turned to Winona. "Ms. Sullivan, you were in Aetheria for a competition. Did Mr. Bailey abandon his savior to vacation with his fiancée?"
