Chapter 560 Adam's Apple Bite

The lack of oxygen left Winona's mind blank. When she heard those words, she stammered, "What?"

Zachary didn't respond verbally. Instead, he propped himself up on the bed, showing her through his actions what he had just said.

Winona was startled. What kind of patient, just out of the ICU that morning, would be climbing around like a monkey? She worried that his leg injury hadn't healed yet and that he might break a rib.

With the experience from the previous two times, Zachary had become quite adept at climbing onto the bed. Winona didn't even have time to scold him before he was already sitting steadily on the bed.

A three-foot-wide bed was a tight fit for two adults, especially when one of them was as tall and long-legged as Zachary. The bed creaked under their combined weight, and Winona feared the noise would be heard by someone passing by in the hallway.

She couldn't bear the embarrassment.

Just as Winona was about to get off the bed from the other side, Zachary grabbed her. "Winona, I just want to hold you. When I jumped from the building, my only fear was that I would never see you again."

His words melted Winona's heart. She turned her body, pressing herself against the edge of the bed, leaving just enough space for one person to lie on their side. "Five minutes."

That was the widest space she could manage.

Zachary was injured and couldn't lie on his side for too long.

"Okay..." Zachary's response was cut short because Winona had already embraced him. Her body was soft, carrying the faint scent of her body wash.

Zachary was first stunned, then overjoyed. His hand hovered in the air for a few seconds before finally resting on her waist.

They lay there quietly, tightly pressed together on the narrow bed, without a gap between them.

It was so quiet.

All they could hear were each other's breaths and the footsteps in the hallway. Winona could also hear a heartbeat, so close, though she wasn't sure if it was hers or Zachary's.

There was no awkwardness or embarrassment, just a peaceful intimacy.

It was getting late. Winter nights came early, and by six o'clock, the sky was already dark.

Winona nestled against Zachary's neck, her chin resting on his shoulder, feeling the strong pulse of his carotid artery against her face. She gazed out the window at the neon-lit sky, the steady rhythm of Zachary's heartbeat like a lullaby, drawing her into a drowsy state.

Her eyelids grew heavier, but she remembered that Zachary shouldn't lie on his side for too long. She nudged him. "Go to sleep."

Only then did she realize that Zachary was a patient who needed to rest in bed due to a moderate concussion.

Winona was speechless.

She struggled to open her eyes, planning to roll over to the other bed. The feeling was like having to get up early for work on a winter morning—utterly miserable.

As she was halfway up, Zachary suddenly pulled her back down, pressing her onto the bed and kissing her lips. His kisses trailed from her earlobe to her jaw and neck. The stubble on his chin scratched her skin, making it itch.

They kissed on the narrow hospital bed, their breaths mingling, deep and heavy.

The sleepiness that had just begun to rise in Winona was completely dispelled by Zachary's actions. The headache and dizziness from severe sleep deprivation made her uncomfortable. She looked at Zachary's close-up face, a bright smile in her eyes.

Winona cupped Zachary's face, tilting his head back, and lightly kissed his Adam's apple.

The Adam's apple was a very sensitive spot for men. Zachary's self-control around Winona was almost nonexistent. He couldn't handle such stimulation, letting out a suppressed moan and unconsciously tightening his grip around her waist. His breathing and kisses became noticeably more urgent.

But they were in a hospital. No matter how impulsive Zachary felt, he couldn't do much, especially since he was still recovering from serious injuries. Even a slight movement of his head made him feel nauseous.

Zachary half-lay on Winona, propping himself up with his elbow. His forehead and arms were covered in bulging veins, his brows furrowed in a tight knot.

His hand slipped under Winona's shirt, sliding up and down her spine. His fingers lingered on the clasp of her bra several times but always stopped at the last moment.

Someone knocked on the door.

It was a nurse coming in for a routine check. She knocked twice out of courtesy before pushing the door open.

Not seeing Zachary on the other bed, she assumed he was on the bed behind the curtain. After all, who would think that someone with broken legs could move so freely between beds?

The curtain was pulled back.

Zachary lay under the covers, slightly turned on his side. Winona sat in a nearby chair, scrolling through her phone.

Everything seemed normal. The nurse didn't notice anything unusual.

She placed the tray on the cabinet and handed Zachary a thermometer. "Unless you're doing something private, try not to close the curtain. It helps us monitor the room from outside and respond quickly in case of an emergency."

She was referring to things like changing clothes or checking wounds, but Winona, feeling guilty, blushed at the word "private," recalling the recent scene.

Zachary's voice was hoarse, with a hint of teasing laughter. "Okay, sorry, just now..."

Winona grabbed his hand, fearing he would blurt out something embarrassing. The nurse, about to take Zachary's blood pressure, saw her action and said sternly, "Be gentle with the patient. He still has a concussion and shouldn't be jostled."

The patient with a concussion who shouldn't be jostled was actually a monkey, jumping around. Would you believe it?

Zachary held Winona's hand. "Don't be harsh on her. If she cries, I'll have to comfort her. She has a bit of a temper and is hard to console."

The nurse frowned.

Winona, embarrassed, covered her face with her other hand, feeling utterly defeated. She imagined the nurse thinking, "Lovesick fool, get out of here."

When the nurse checked his heart rate, she frowned at the reading. "Your heart rate is a bit fast, but it's not serious. We'll monitor it, and if it doesn't go down, you might need an EKG."

Winona was speechless.

As soon as the nurse left, she pulled her hand away from Zachary's grip, glaring at him. "Did you do that on purpose?"

Zachary had deliberately said those ambiguous things to embarrass her.

Zachary tilted his head back, revealing the red mark on his Adam's apple, a silent accusation of her actions. "What about you? Did you know the nurse would come and deliberately tease me?"

Winona rolled her eyes, trying to hide her smile. "Oh, please. Like I have a crystal ball to predict when the nurse would walk in."

Zachary chuckled, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Well, you sure have a knack for timing."

Winona sighed, shaking her head. "Just rest, okay? You need to get better."

Zachary's expression softened. "I know. But having you here makes it a lot easier."

Winona's heart melted a little. "Alright, just behave. No more monkey business."

Zachary grinned, "No promises."

Winona couldn't help but laugh. "You're impossible."

"That's why you love me," Zachary said, his voice full of warmth.

Winona smiled, leaning in to kiss his forehead. "Yeah, I guess it is."
