Chapter 605 Did You Offend Her

Rebecca was even more worried that he might cling to her even more because of this.

She thought Anthony would put up a fight, but he agreed pretty quickly: "Alright, but if we're breaking up, shouldn't we do it in person? You found Reba, and if you don't want her anymore, you should at least tell her. She's been waiting by the door every day for you to come see her, and she won't budge even when I call her."

Rebecca had planned to end things over the phone and then go their separate ways, considering their relationship had started so casually. But when Anthony mentioned the dog, her heart softened.

She really was a kind person.

"How about we meet for dinner? You can bring Reba..."

She caught herself and corrected, "I mean, bring the dog."

She felt quite guilty about it. The dog clearly wanted to be with her, but she had left it with Anthony without even checking in.

Now, hearing that the dog waited by the door every day for her, her heart softened even more.

Anthony said, "I've been eating out every day lately, and I'm a bit sick of it. How about we cook at home? What do you like to eat?"

The tension in Rebecca's mind snapped like a string being plucked, sending a loud 'twang' echoing in her ears.

She pinched her palm hard, using the pain to suppress the anger rising in her chest. Anthony, who could remain calm and eloquent even when aggressively questioned by opposing lawyers in court, misspoke? He was clearly doing it on purpose.

Rebecca squeezed out a word from her throat: "Whatever."

Then she hung up the phone.

In the private room.

Samuel looked at the dejected Zachary and nudged him with his foot. "Did you do something to piss off Winona?"

"No, everything was fine when we checked into the hotel. But after we woke up, she started ignoring me."

Samuel rubbed his temples in exasperation. He really didn't want to get involved in these relationship issues, mainly because he didn't want to hurt his friend. "Maybe she thinks you're bad in bed and sees no hope for improvement, so she's cutting her losses."

Zachary almost choked on his own breath. He retorted angrily, "We didn't even..."

Halfway through, he stopped abruptly, noticing Matthew's intense, amused gaze. And what was with that look of 'I knew you weren't good enough'?

Zachary frowned. "Why are you still here?"

"I thought I'd help you win Winona back. My good intentions are being misunderstood."

Matthew had mastered the art of shamelessness.

Zachary was skeptical. "Are you really that kind? Or are you trying to help her break up with me?"

"If I hadn't told you, you might not have realized until you got her wedding invitation that she was done with you."

Watching the two bicker, Samuel sighed. "What did she say to you before she left?"

Zachary thought for a moment and had a sudden realization. "Clothes."

He explained the situation briefly.

Samuel tilted his head back in exasperation. "Winona practically spoon-fed you the answer. If she were to hang herself, you'd probably think she was just swinging. Maybe you shouldn't be in a relationship."

Otherwise, with his knack for making people angry every few days, Samuel would have to become a full-time advisor, which was exhausting.

Zachary pursed his lips and called someone to check on Maeve's recent activities.

It wasn't difficult, and soon he had the information. He hadn't thought of it before because it hadn't crossed his mind.

Zachary frowned at the message from Dylan.

Maeve had said she wanted to return his clothes, but he didn't need them, didn't want them after someone else had worn them, and didn't want any further entanglement. So he told her to just throw them away, never imagining it would cause trouble later.

Zachary instructed Dylan, "Go to Ms. Harrington and get the clothes back."

Samuel checked his watch and tapped the face. "Let's go. Curfew's coming up."

Matthew remained silent.

Seeing Samuel already at the door, Matthew thought it might be better to stay single. Relationships were such a hassle, both physically and emotionally.

Winona felt like Rosewood City was against her. She had slept the entire day and woke up dizzy and weak. She glanced at the design drafts Matthew had sent her, replying to messages while heading to the bathroom to freshen up. But she accidentally dropped her phone in the toilet.

She quickly turned it off and rinsed it under the faucet, hoping to get it repaired. But it was nighttime, and she was unfamiliar with the area, so she had to wait until the next day.

The next morning, her phone was completely dead.

Winona wanted to curse.

She had plans to visit the National Museum, which had been scheduled in advance, so she didn't have time to buy a new phone during the day.

She glanced at the clock, hurriedly changed clothes, and prepared to leave. They were supposed to meet in the lobby at nine, and it was almost time.

Having slept too much the previous day, she couldn't fall asleep at night and only managed to doze off for two hours at dawn. Now she was so tired that people appeared blurry.

Winona groaned. Jet lag was the worst.

There was a knock on the door, accompanied by the team leader's call: "Windy, are you awake? The bus is here, and we're leaving."

Winona didn't even have time to brush her hair. She grabbed a comb and opened the door. "Coming, coming."

The team leader asked, "Why is your phone off?"

Looking exhausted and disheveled, with dark circles heavy enough to pass for smoky eye makeup, she replied, "I dropped it in the toilet last night. It died this morning. I'll get a new one after today's activities."

The team leader hesitated, pointing at the comb in her hand. "Are you holding that to...?"

Winona replied, "Brush my hair. I overslept."

The goddess image was shattered.

At the hotel entrance, the bus was waiting, and everyone else was already there. As the youngest, Winona felt mortified for making her seniors wait on the first day. She kept apologizing as she boarded, feeling incredibly awkward.

Visiting the museum was part of their work. They needed to understand Aetheria's artifacts firsthand, moving from theory to practice.

Since they often discussed things together, the group stayed close.

After examining a painting, Winona suddenly felt a gaze fixed on her. She looked in that direction and saw a tall man in a white shirt, black trousers, and a light gray coat.

When she recognized him, she froze. "Zachary?"
