Chapter 639 Let's Have a Ghost Marriage

"That comment was more insulting than hurtful."

"Anthony, are you calling me stupid?" Rebecca asked, her eyes narrowing.

Anthony gave her a look that said, "If you already know, why ask?" and replied nonchalantly, "No."

Rebecca didn't care much about what they played, and choosing an escape room was a random decision. But now, her competitive spirit was ignited, and she was determined to play this game. As for Anthony, his main goal was to go on a date with Rebecca, and he didn't care much about the activity itself.

The escape room was on the third floor. Rebecca asked Anthony, "What are you most afraid of?"

Anthony glanced at the promotional poster at the entrance and casually replied, "Horror."

"Alright, let's pick a horror theme," she said, taking the brochure from the staff. "Take a look, which one do you like?"

Anthony looked at the eerie images and said, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"

"You don't get it. This is how you get the full experience. Otherwise, it's like strolling through your backyard," Rebecca said, making up an excuse. In her mind, she thought, "Let's see how you handle this." But out loud, she said, "Don't worry, I'm here. I've been brave since I was a kid. I'll protect you."

She gave Anthony's arm a reassuring pat.

Rebecca had never played an escape room before and was excitedly studying the brochure. While her friends watched romantic dramas, she loved horror movies, always watching them with the lights off.

Of course, she would close all the doors and windows, draw the curtains, and wrap herself in a thick blanket, leaving only her head exposed, but she would still be scared out of her wits.

She flipped to a page and eagerly asked Anthony, "How about a death wedding?"

Anthony frowned. "Pick another one."

Rebecca gave him a disdainful look and clicked her tongue, "Boring."

Despite her words, she turned the page and pointed to a bride in a blood-red wedding dress, "How about this one, the ghost bride?"

In the end, Anthony couldn't stand her morbid choices and picked the 'ghost bride' theme.

The game required at least four players, so they were paired with another couple. The first step was to understand the story's background.

The story took place in a remote village, isolated from the outside world for over a century. The villagers believed in an evil god and thought that marrying outsiders would bring disaster, so they never married outside the village.

The story began with the heroine, Amy, who found a severely injured man outside the village. Afraid of being punished by her family, she hid him in an abandoned rabbit hutch and secretly took care of him.

It was her first time meeting someone from outside the village, and she was fascinated by him and the world he described. They developed feelings for each other, and eventually, they couldn't resist and had a child together.

Their relationship was opposed by everyone in the village, and Amy was seen as a harbinger of disaster. After much effort, they convinced the village chief to allow their marriage, but the condition was that the man had to join the village. He had to stay outside the village the night before the wedding, and Amy would bring him in on the wedding day.

But on the wedding day, Amy was found dead, hanging in her house in her red wedding dress.

Since then, the house was haunted until everyone in the village died.

Their role was a group of hikers who accidentally stumbled into this forbidden, terrifying village. They had to uncover the truth behind Amy's death and help her spirit find peace to win the game.

After reading the story, Rebecca confidently said, "Based on my years of watching horror movies, the village chief definitely killed Amy to prevent her from marrying an outsider and bringing disaster to the village. He pretended to agree to the marriage to lower their guard and then killed Amy, the child, and the groom."

After understanding the story, they changed into costumes, reviewed the rules, and entered the escape room.

The first room was where Amy had hanged herself. The wedding scene and props were set up on a table, and a photo of the bride was on a redwood table against the wall. The red wedding dress was neatly folded on the bed.

The lighting created a terrifying atmosphere.

Rebecca clutched Anthony's hand. Unlike a haunted house where you could close your eyes and run, in an escape room, you had to find clues to progress.

"Are you scared?" Anthony asked, his voice instinctively lowered in the eerie setting.

Rebecca replied, "Of course not."

To prove her point, she puffed out her chest.

"Then let go a bit. You're squeezing my hand so hard it's going to bleed," Anthony said.

Rebecca fell silent.

The four of them started searching for clues. Unfortunately, Rebecca not only got scared but also triggered a death condition by opening the first drawer. The lights dimmed, and they saw Amy in her blood-red wedding dress floating down.

Everyone fell silent.

It turned out Rebecca was terrified and terrible at solving puzzles. Anthony had to practically drag her out.

Back in the brightly lit lobby, surrounded by people, she finally calmed down.

Anthony supported her, "Are you okay?"

Her face was pale, and he worried she might faint.

Rebecca took a deep breath, "No, I'm not okay. I was scared to death. I need to use the restroom."

Anthony remained silent.

When she came out of the restroom, she felt alive again and started ranting, "Men are really unreliable, all toxic and awful."

"Amy risked everything to save him, and he ended up destroying her entire village, even killing his own child, just to avenge his first love."

Anthony wisely kept quiet, knowing that anything he said would only make things worse.

Rebecca ranted for a while without getting a response, then suddenly turned to him, "Do all men have a special filter for their first love?"

"If you're asking about Zachary, I don't know. But if you're asking about me, my first love is you. So if there's a filter, it's for you."

Past rumors didn't count.

Rebecca blushed, "You sure know how to talk."

Just as she finished speaking, her expression changed. She stared straight ahead and pulled Anthony behind a pillar, "Look at that person, isn't that...?"
