Chapter 522 Twisted Mind Wants to Hit Someone
Winona glanced at the woman's hand on her shoulder and smirked. "So, you wanna pour it back?"
The woman had come over with that exact intention. She couldn't stand Winona. Back when Winona was the eldest daughter of the Sullivan family, she was always so full of herself. Even when her stepmom and stepsister bullied her, she still acted all high and mighty. When the woman found out that loan sharks were after Winona, she was thrilled. But then Winona turned things around and married Zachary, a guy everyone else could only dream about. Now, with Zachary dead, Winona was a widow. Why should she still get to attend the Bailey Group's anniversary party?
Seeing the reporters with their cameras, the woman hesitated.
But Winona's taunt made her blood boil. She'd been holding in her anger for so long and finally had a chance to get back at Winona. Should she just let it go?
Winona saw right through her and snorted. "Worried about your status? Then step aside and don't get in my way."
"You..." The woman was so mad she clenched her teeth, but thanks to her plastic surgery, she couldn't make any real facial expressions. She just glared at Winona with her big eyes.
Winona didn't care what she was thinking. "Move it; a good dog knows not to block the path." She picked up her plate again and grabbed a piece of steak and some pasta.
When she turned around and saw the red-lipped woman still in her way, Winona didn't hesitate and bumped her shoulder, heading towards the dining area.
The woman wanted to stop Winona but didn't know how, so she just glared at Winona's back, raising her chin and sneering, "Winona, you jinx, don't bring disaster to others. Your mom died, your husband died—who's next?"
Winona's attention was caught by her words, and she didn't notice the red-lipped woman's follower sticking a foot out. Just as she was about to turn around and snap back, she tripped.
As she fell, Winona thought, great, this is definitely making the headlines tomorrow. But if that woman wanted her to lose face, Winona wouldn't let her off easy. If she was going down, she was taking her with her.
Seeing this, the red-lipped woman was even more pleased. "Your mom was messing around with Frank during her marriage. How shameless. Carlos was betrayed by his woman for years and ended up in prison because of the adopted daughter he treated like his own. Frank still dared to acknowledge you. He's probably close to bankruptcy too..."
The expected embarrassing scene didn't happen. Before Winona hit the ground, someone caught her. A strong arm wrapped around her waist.
She fell into a man's embrace, surrounded by a familiar masculine scent.
Still in shock, Winona looked up, instinctively clutching the fabric at his waist.
Matthew, dressed in a sharp suit, had only one accessory: a tie clip with black diamonds. He looked noble and elegant, but the black pepper sauce on his shirt ruined the whole look.
When Winona fell into his arms, the plate and its contents ended up all over him.Matthew, holding her with one hand, first glanced at the red-lipped woman and her crew, then looked down at Winona in his arms, frowning. "What's going on?"
The red-lipped woman was a bit intimidated by Matthew. Even though he was usually gentle and polite, his status was intimidating. When he got serious, no one thought he was easy to deal with. "Mr. Watson, I was just chatting with Winona. She said she was a bit hungry, so..." As the red-lipped woman spoke, Winona had already stood up straight.
The sound of the plate shattering drew a lot of attention. Sensing the tense atmosphere, people became interested. These business-oriented banquets were usually pretty dull. Those with positions were busy networking, while those without or who hadn't found someone they liked were bored and enjoyed watching such dramas.
The commotion quickly drew everyone's attention, including the media reporters.
Winona turned and walked towards the red-lipped woman. When she tripped, she seemed to have twisted her ankle, which hurt, but her face showed no sign of it.
Her gaze was terrifying, full of murderous intent. The red-lipped woman, feeling intimidated, instinctively wanted to retreat but was held back by her rationality.
She stiffened her neck and threatened, "What do you want? There are so many reporters here. If you dare..."
A loud and crisp sound echoed as a fiery slap landed accurately on the red-lipped woman's face, causing it to swell immediately.
The woman didn't expect Winona to hit her. She covered her face, staring at Winona in disbelief, her head still tilted from the slap. "Winona, how dare you..."
What kind of occasion was this?
There were so many influential people around, not to mention the reporters. How could Winona act like a shrew and hit someone? Wasn't she afraid of being exposed?
"I have no status or position now, just an illegitimate daughter recognized by the Turner family. What do I have to be afraid of? I hit you. Do you dare to hit back?" Winona seemed fearless. "Who do you think you are to talk about my parents? With such a filthy mouth, you deserve to be hit."
The sound of camera shutters clicking filled the air.
Reporters were frantically taking pictures.
The red-lipped woman screamed, "Winona, are you crazy? You tripped on your own—why take it out on me? No wonder Mr. Bailey didn't want you. Who would want someone as arrogant and overbearing as you? The Bailey family took pity on you, didn't mind your status, and allowed you to attend the Bailey Group's anniversary banquet, but you repay them by bringing them bad press."
She pushed her swollen face towards the cameras, crying pitifully like in a soap opera. Her face couldn't make big expressions, so tears just streamed down.
This woman was even more hypocritical and disgusting than Fiona.
Winona said, "Why don't you tell them why I hit you?"
"How would I know what a lunatic like you is thinking," the red-lipped woman choked, sounding extremely wronged, "Maybe because Mr. Bailey is gone, your dream of a luxurious life is shattered, and you're twisted inside."
Winona was amused by her nonsense and sneered, "There are cameras, you idiot. Do you think you can say whatever you want?"
