Chapter 491 That’s Enough for You?
But just as the woman was about to smash the bottle over Anthony's head, someone yanked him out of the way.
The bottle hit nothing but air.
Before she could even react, a voice yelled, "Anthony, are you nuts? You think talking about the law is gonna help with a nutcase like her? You might as well just let her hit you with the bottle!"
Rebecca, after giving Anthony a piece of her mind, turned to the hysterical woman. "Eleanor, have you lost it? Your dad stiffed his workers on their wages, made someone jump off your company's roof, and now you have the nerve to come here and whine about him? If you feel so bad for him, why don't you go join him?"
The Foster Family scandal was a big deal back then, messing with people's livelihoods and stirring up a lot of anger. Folks were throwing eggs at their door every day. Even Rebecca, who usually avoided the news, had heard about it.
They all ran in the same circles, so it wasn't surprising they knew each other's names. Eleanor glared at Rebecca and sneered, "Oh, it's the Davis girl who goes on eight dates a day. Still single, huh? Here to steal men now?"
Rebecca was taken aback.
She could feel Anthony's eyes boring into her back, making her uncomfortable, but she couldn't show any fear.
Especially not in front of him; otherwise, he'd have the upper hand in the future.
She shot back, "No need to be so bitter. I know you're jealous because no man wants to date you. Who'd want to be associated with a family as shady as yours, cheating even the working class out of their money?"
Eleanor was livid. "Rebecca, I'll kill you! You're the shady one!"
She pointed at Anthony and ranted, "Do you even know who he is? He's just a lawyer who gets paid to do dirty work. I talked to other lawyers, and my dad shouldn't have gotten such a harsh sentence; it's all because of him..."
Rebecca turned to Anthony and said, "I told you to keep a low profile. You shouldn't make people hate you so much. Look at everyone else having a good time while you're the one getting yelled at and threatened."
She rolled up her sleeves. "Watch and learn—this is how you handle a crazy woman. Stop just talking and start acting; otherwise, one day you'll get yourself beaten up, and then you can discuss the law with the Grim Reaper. Maybe he'll offer you a top lawyer gig."
Anthony smirked and nodded. "Sure, just be careful when you hit her. Causing minor injuries carries legal responsibility. For example, scalp wounds or scars shouldn't exceed..."
Rebecca was speechless.
She was ready to throw down, but Anthony was just spouting legal jargon. How could she be in the mood to fight?
She glared at Anthony, then stepped aside and said to Eleanor, "Go ahead, take your shot at him. I won't stop you."
Finally, the security guards showed up, and the whole mess ended with Eleanor getting kicked out.
The crowd dispersed, and Rebecca looked around for Winona but couldn't find her. Just as she was about to call her, Anthony walked over and said, "Miss Sullivan has already left."He caught a whiff of alcohol on Rebecca and frowned. "Have you been drinking?" he asked.
Rebecca shot back, "What's it to you? Just leave me alone."
She was still fuming from what had just happened. Sure, she knew fighting was illegal and all, but did Anthony really have to lecture her like that in front of everyone?
With so many people watching, it was beyond embarrassing.
Anthony kept pace with her, his voice calm. "Eight dates in one day?"
Rebecca had almost forgotten about that. There was that one time when she had so many dates that two of them overlapped, causing a huge mess.
Ever since then, her reputation as a flirt had skyrocketed.
She replied, "That was just to keep my mom off my back. I'm not interested in marriage, never even thought about it. All those dates were just for show. I'm not into men."
Anthony raised an eyebrow. "Not into men? So, are you into women?"
Before Rebecca could respond, a handsome guy in a white shirt and black pants approached her. "Miss Davis, thanks for choosing me tonight. I've met my quota for the month. This is for you; it's not much, but I hope you like it."
The club had these small gifts for the staff to give to guests.
Rebecca was speechless.
Anthony's eyebrow arched higher, a faint smile tugging at his lips, though his eyes stayed cold.
Feeling guilty under his gaze, Rebecca quickly took the gift, said a few words to the guy to send him off, and then forced a smile. "He was going to lose money this month because he hadn't met his quota. I saw him crying in the restroom, so I helped him out. I was going to order drinks anyway, so it didn't matter who I ordered from."
Anthony's tone was dripping with sarcasm. "I didn't know Miss Davis was such a Good Samaritan."
Rebecca retorted, "Of course, I'm beautiful and kind-hearted. You wouldn't believe how many people..."
"Miss Davis, thank you for choosing me earlier. This is a gift for you..."
Rebecca stiffly accepted the gift, feeling like her back was about to break from the weight of Anthony's stare.
In just a short walk, she received over a dozen thank-you gifts, all because of her earlier spending spree. Her hands were full, and by the end, she felt completely overwhelmed.
"Miss Davis..." Someone called from behind.
Rebecca turned around abruptly, not even looking to see who it was, and said, "What do you want to give me? I can't hold anything else, just hang it around my neck or stuff it in my pocket."
It seemed like they had planned it, each gift was different, some to hold, some to hang.
Rebecca stretched out her hands full of gifts to show she really couldn't hold anything else.
Anthony took the pile of items from her hands and remarked, "I don't have anything to give you, but I just wanted to say, Miss Davis, your life is quite the spectacle. Eight dates in one day and hiring over a dozen companions at once—surely that's enough for you? Or maybe it's not the quantity you crave, but rather that they're just too weak?"
