Chapter 517 Who Did He Give It To
"Thanks, I'll be careful," Winona said, feeling a bit touched. Austin always seemed so laid-back, she didn't expect him to be this thoughtful.
This kind of stuff was tough to explain over the phone, and the more people knew, the easier it was to mess up. Since he already got the wrong idea, she decided to just let it be.
Winona gave Austin an address and then hung up.
Austin had just left the hospital and headed straight to the mall.
Next to the mall was a teahouse. Zachary had set up a meeting with Frank for tea today and was sitting in a window booth. As soon as Austin got out of the car, Zachary spotted him and frowned.
Frank glanced at the stuff on the table and said, "Mr. Ramsey, what's all this? If it's about a business deal, you can just contact the person in charge at Dreamopolis. I spend most of my time in Mode City and don't really know what's going on here."
Frank had planned to get the Dreamopolis branch up and running, but after Kyle's death, the Turner Family was in chaos. He had to go back to Mode City to sort things out, leaving the local operations to a professional manager.
Zachary said, "These are gifts for you."
Frank replied, "Mr. Ramsey, you're too kind. These look pricey; I can't accept them. My daughter buys me things."
Zachary pursed his lips, not wanting to spill the beans in a public place where there might be eavesdroppers. He said, "Frank, you know what I mean."
Frank said, "Collaboration depends on the project, how the benefits are shared, and if we can work well together in the end. It's not something a few gifts can decide. Since Mr. Ramsey is so sincere, I'll get in touch with the person in charge here and ask them to consider the Ramsey Group."
Zachary chimed in, "Frank, I'm not here to discuss..."
Frank continued, "I believe that cooperation has to be based on mutual honesty to go deeper. If we keep hiding things, it'll create a lot of conflicts over time, making it hard to sustain. Two independent entities can't fully understand each other, so how can we know everything about each other?"
Zachary paused, then quickly caught on to the deeper meaning behind Frank's words. "Do you have other companies in mind?" he asked calmly, but his quick speech gave away his anxiety.
"Yes," Frank said, opening his photo album and showing it to Zachary with great enthusiasm. "These are the companies I'm interested in collaborating with recently. They're strong, have a great working environment, and promising future prospects. Plus, their bosses have a great sense of humor, so working with them will never be boring. Most importantly, they're direct and honest."
Zachary looked at the photos of handsome men, some even showing their abs. He couldn't tell if Frank was picking a husband for Winona or looking for a gigolo. Frank's continuous praise made the veins on Zachary's forehead throb.
"Strong" meant a good background, "good environment" meant good looks, and "promising prospects" meant capable. The bosses' personalities referred to these men's characters. The photos made Zachary's eyes hurt. He closed his eyes, rubbed his temples, and muttered, "The Ramsey Group is way better than any of them."
Frank looked at him, surprised. "Mr. Ramsey, confidence is good, but overconfidence means not seeing reality. Tell me, what makes the Ramsey Group so good that we must choose it? With Mr. Ramsey's quiet nature, working together would be very difficult."
Zachary fell silent.
Unlike the dejected Zachary, Frank, who had vented his anger for his daughter, was in a great mood. He downed the now-cold tea in one gulp. "This tea is good. Mr. Ramsey, why don't you take two boxes with you?"
To Zachary, everything tasted bitter now, and he had no mood for tea.
He replied, "If you like it, Frank, take as much as you want. I'll pay the bill."
He hadn't recovered from the blow when he saw Austin coming out of the supermarket with bags of nutritional supplements. Zachary immediately noticed that the transparent plastic bags contained supplements suitable for women.
Seeing those supplements made him think of Winona, and his frown deepened.
Who was Austin taking those things to?
Frank leisurely drank a few more cups of tea, looking at the dejected Zachary, and then slowly stood up, straightened his clothes, and said, "You should talk to the person involved. Why come to an old man like me? I can't make decisions. I won't take the tea; send it when things are settled."
After sending Frank off, Zachary called Abigail, his voice cold. "Didn't I tell you to keep an eye on him? How did he get out?"
Abigail had just woken up. She had stayed up late working on accessories and was groggy. When she received Zachary's call, she almost cursed him out but held back. She replied, "Mr. Ramsey, are you available for a video call?"
In her current situation, she had to swallow her pride.
Although Zachary and Abigail were partners, they weren't close enough for video calls. He glanced at Austin, who had already driven away, and coldly replied, "Okay."
Abigail said, "Please wait while I get dressed."
Ten minutes later, Abigail's video call came through. As soon as Zachary answered, he saw her arm in a sling and her leg wrapped in bandages. She said, "Mr. Ramsey, I've done my best. I couldn't stop him from going out. In my condition, I couldn't prevent him. Considering my efforts, could you assign me some other tasks? I promise to complete them with quality and quantity."
Zachary coldly replied, "Complete tasks with quality and quantity? With you looking like half a mummy?"
Abigail's fake smile froze, morphing into a strained grin. "Mr. Ramsey, haven't you won your girlfriend back yet?"
There was such anger in his tone.
After Abigail spoke, there was an eerie silence on the line, broken only by the occasional crackle of static, making it feel all the more unsettling.
After a while, Zachary let out a cold laugh. "Abigail, are you planning to help that couple? Do you want to stay in Austin's apartment forever?"
Then the video call immediately ended.
