Chapter 414 It's Your Ancestor
Rebecca couldn't believe Zachary had finally gotten his act together. Not only had he ditched his jerk attitude, but he'd also turned into a bit of a romantic.
The room was decked out with flowers and string lights, looking like a wedding venue. Even she, who had sworn off marriage, felt a twinge of longing.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a figure collapsing.
"Winona," Rebecca reached out, but Winona was completely out of it, and Rebecca couldn't hold her up.
They both ended up on the floor. Rebecca worried Winona might hit her head since she was unconscious, so she tried to cushion the fall with her elbow. She felt a sharp pain as her elbow smacked against the hard tile. A scream tore from her throat, and her arm went numb.
Zachary had taken the bodyguards from Regal Oaks with him, and they hadn't been home for the past two days. Quinn hadn't shown up either, so it was just the two of them in this huge villa.
Rebecca had some first aid training. She checked Winona and figured she had fainted from exhaustion and stress, nothing too serious. However, the situation was far from manageable with one of them unconscious and the other injured. They needed to call an ambulance.
If they could spend money to call an ambulance, it would be better than her trying to find someone to come to an aid.
She struggled to get her phone out of her bag to call an ambulance. Just as she was about to dial, Anthony's video call came through.
Rebecca was puzzled. Anthony usually acted all formal; if he needed to contact her, he always called. They had added each other on WhatsApp a while ago, but he had sent fewer than five messages, all texts. She even doubted if he knew WhatsApp had a video call function.
Plus, she and Anthony weren't close enough for a video call.
Despite her confusion, Rebecca answered the call, enduring the pain.
She was lying down, and holding the phone up was too tiring, so she lowered it a bit. As soon as the video connected, Anthony saw a face filling the entire screen.
Anthony fell silent.
Rebecca's arm hurt badly, and with Winona pressing down on her, even breathing was difficult. She spoke without any pretense, "What's up?"
"Can you move the phone a bit farther away?"
This guy was really annoying.
Rebecca impatiently lowered her eyelids and glanced at the phone screen, seeing her two large nostrils. She silently adjusted the phone, raising her arm higher. As she did, Anthony could now see not only her face but also Winona lying on top of her and the surrounding tableau of elegant flowers and twinkling string lights.
Anthony squinted slightly, as if the sunlight had hit his eyes. Anthony said, "You two look like a couple."
At the mention of this, Rebecca thought of her miserable experience over the past two days. Not only had she been forced to look at over a dozen explicit photos of gay men, but she had also been dragged to identify the scene. The fear of being dominated made her forget about her arm pain.
She was struggling to breathe with Winona on top of her and wriggled a bit. "If you have something important, send it on WhatsApp. Don't delay my call to the ambulance."
Anthony frowned, looking confused. "Are you hurt again?"
Rebecca, annoyed, puffed out her chest a bit so he could see Winona's condition more clearly. "Can't you see Winona is out cold?"
In just two and a half minutes, she had rendered the invincible Mr. Lewis speechless three times. "Where are you?"
"Regal Oaks."
"I'll come over and take you to the hospital." He could get there faster than an ambulance, and since Rebecca had time to answer his video call, Winona's health condition probably wasn't serious and didn't require emergency care.
Then, the camera turned to reveal a wrinkled woman's face. Anthony asked, "Is this your landlord? She's here to collect the rent."
"That's right."
Her landlord only accepted cash. She had contacted Rebecca a few days ago, saying she would come by the store today to collect the rent.
Rebecca had rushed to see Winona today and had forgotten about it. "Sorry, I had something to do today and didn't go to the store. Can I bring it to you tomorrow?"
The landlord had already heard the conversation. "That's fine. Take care of your friend first. You can pay the rent a few days later."
Anthony said, "How much? I'll pay it for you first."
Rebecca quickly gave him a number, afraid he might change his mind. "I'll transfer it to you later. Thanks, Mr. Lewis."
"You're welcome. By now, I'm quite used to handling your issues."
She felt Anthony was mocking her, but she had no proof.
Anthony arrived quickly. Fortunately, they had fallen near the entrance, and the door hadn't been closed yet. Otherwise, he would have had to find another way in. The glass at Regal Oaks was bulletproof and couldn't be broken without specialized tools.
He first helped Winona up and laid her to the side, then reached out to pull Rebecca up.
As soon as he applied force, he heard a scream.
Rebecca clutched her elbow, her face pale, her brows furrowed tightly, looking like she was in excruciating pain. Anthony quickly let go and squatted down in front of her. He said with concern, "Is your arm injured?"
He asked while examining her arm.
Rebecca was in so much pain that she was breaking out in a cold sweat. She said with a weary smile, "It wasn't a big deal at first, but now it's probably broken."
As she had initially assessed, Winona had fainted from exhaustion and emotional stress. Rebecca had a soft tissue contusion, and her elbow was swollen. It looked scary but wasn't a big problem. Her pinky finger was also hit, not broken, but it still hurt.
Anthony handled the hospital admission procedures. Rebecca, who was grimacing in pain, transferred the rent and hospital fees to him, then placed her phone on the bedside table and used her uninjured hand to poke at the screen to order food.
Just as she was about to place an order, the phone screen was blocked by a takeout box.
Rebecca looked up at Anthony and didn't move.
The man frowned slightly and said, "Eat it yourself. There's a spoon."
Rebecca raised her injured right hand. "Could you at least untie the knot on the plastic bag for me? I can't open it now. Could you be a bit more considerate while taking care of me?"
"I think you're already quite impressive."
Anthony took out the takeout boxes and opened them one by one, arranging them neatly.
Rebecca sat cross-legged, her eyes sparkling. "Really? In what way?"
"In the art of bad luck, you're unmatched."
