Chapter 418 I Don't Like Pregnant Women

Crystal's birthday bash was at this commercial farmhouse, nothing too fancy but not too shabby either.

To keep the convo flowing, they turned it into a banquet.

Dylan filled Winona in on the whole deal and who Nicholas Ramsey was. "Mr. Ramsey's a real enigma. Hardly anyone in the circle has seen him; his assistant handles most stuff."

"Is the Ramsey family the one that was previously borrowing money and raising funds?"

Winona had been catching up on business news for the past three months, so she knew about the Ramsey Family.

Dylan nodded, "Yeah, Mrs. Bailey. I've heard Mr. Ramsey's not the easy guy to get along with. If he says anything rude, please don't take it to heart. You're pregnant, and if anything happens, the chairman will definitely fire me."

Winona went quiet.

She had admitted her pregnancy mainly to give Lydia some hope, so she wouldn't be too down. She planned to tell her slowly once her emotions stabilized.

However, her involvement in the company had ticked off a lot of shareholders. With Zachary missing, everyone was gunning for the CEO spot.

Whoever snagged that position would basically run Bailey Group. At a time like this, who wanted an unexpected hurdle?

If it were legit, they might accept it, but Winona was just an ex-wife with no experience. They all thought she was not qualified to join the company, let alone be the chairman's special assistant.

Even though she was called special assistant, she could make many decisions without the chairman's nod. With the CEO spot empty, she was no different from an acting CEO.

Evander, fed up with the drama, straight-up told everyone she was pregnant with Bailey Family's next heir.

Winona touched her belly.

Zachary had been missing for three months. In another month, she wouldn't be able to hide her belly. Should she stuff a pillow in there?

Dylan said, "We'll use love to win him over. We need to figure out why he's been gunning for us. It's only been a short time, and he's already swiped two major projects from us."

Winona asked, "Was Zachary like this when he was CEO? Using love to win people over?"

She couldn't picture Zachary trying to build relationships through emotions.

"When Mr. Bailey was around, I was always confident. No one dared to say a word against me. Now, I'm starting to feel timid."

Winona was speechless. The business world changed fast. Although Evander wasn't bad at business, he hadn't managed Dreamopolis since Zachary took over Bailey Group. Over the years, his network had weakened. "What makes him difficult to get along with?"

"He's said to be pretty sharp-tongued, not much different from Mr. Bailey."

Winona suddenly turned to look out the window, her eyes a bit red.

Dylan stayed quiet. He wanted to kick himself for always bringing up sad topics.

They hit traffic on the way, so they got there a bit late, and there weren't many people at the entrance.

Dylan scanned the room, gesturing with his chin at a guy chatting and laughing with others not far away, saying, "That's Nicholas. His back looks a bit unfamiliar."

Winona followed his gaze. The guy had his back to her, with slightly long hair, dressed in a suit. One hand was loosely clenched behind his back, and the other held a wine glass. His tall, slender figure was strong and imposing.

She moved closer, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation to get a sense of her opponent's character.

But as soon as she got close, the guy seemed to sense her and turned his face, his gaze landing directly on Winona.

She hadn't even had a chance to listen before being discovered.

She awkwardly pulled her lips into a smile, but it froze halfway.

It was a familiar face, deep-set eyes, a high nose bridge, and perfectly shaped lips.

Winona stared blankly at the face in front of her and said in a trembling tone, "Zachary."

Her eyes reddened, and a thin mist quickly formed in them. Her fingers went limp, and the glass fell to the ground, attracting a lot of attention.

But at that moment, she couldn't care less about others' gazes. She reached out and hugged the man's neck, saying, "Where have you been these three months? Your parents are sick with worry. Not only did you not come back, but you also went to be someone else's son."

At that moment, Winona was overjoyed, wanting to take him back immediately. And she did just that, pulling the man's hand to leave.

In next second, their hands were forcibly separated.

Nicholas stood still, frowning as he looked at his assistant, Leon Baker, "Who is this?"

Leon glanced at Winona and said, "Frank's recently acknowledged daughter, now Evander's special assistant, and the ex-wife of the missing Bailey Group CEO, Zachary. It's said she's pregnant with Bailey Family's heir."

Winona looked at Nicholas in surprise, saying, "Did you lose your memory?"

Did he hit his head during the fire escape?

Was he beaten up?

Or did his brain get waterlogged when he fell into the sea?

Nicholas said, "If forgetting everything before the age of seven counts as amnesia, then I did."

Winona was puzzled. She stared at the man in front of her. His features were so familiar; how could it not be him?

But the longer she stared, the more unfamiliar his face became. It looked very similar, but not quite the same. In the end, she wasn't sure anymore and hesitantly asked, "Who are you?"

The man replied indifferently, "Nicholas Ramsey."

Zachary had always kept his hair short on the sides and longer in the middle, styled to reveal his entire forehead. He had never had this hairstyle. Winona wondered if that was why he seemed different. She reached out to push his bangs aside, but the man grabbed her hand and said with an unpleasant expression, "I don't like pregnant women."

He glanced at her belly and said, "I don't mess with pregnant women."

Winona was fixated on pushing his bangs aside, saying, "I'm not interested in arrogant men either. I just thought you looked like someone I knew and wanted to confirm."

The man said with a mocking smile, "That kind of pickup line went out of style years ago. Miss Sullivan, you should visit more clubs and update your pickup lines. Maybe next time you'll succeed."

He let go of Winona's hand and rubbed his fingertips. Leon immediately handed him a handkerchief and said, "Sorry, Miss Sullivan. Our Mr. Ramsey has a cleanliness obsession."
