Chapter 331 You Two Made Up?

Austin knew what Winona had seen but didn't even blink. "It's just a scratch. I'll be fine in a couple of days."

"Your chest bandage is soaked in blood, and you call that a scratch?"

Winona tried to lift the blanket off him, but Austin grabbed her hand. "Don't be so hasty. What if I'm not wearing pants?"

His hand was burning hot. Winona touched his forehead. "You have a fever. When did you last change the dressing?"

The top floor was sweltering, with just a fan blowing.

Even she couldn't stand the heat after a few minutes, let alone someone injured.

Austin was weak and barely awake. If the phone hadn't rung, he'd still be asleep.

Struggling to stay conscious, he mumbled, "Not long, three or four days? Maybe a week."

Winona's frustration grew, her forehead veins throbbing.

Judging by the bloodstains, Austin's injuries were serious.

She grabbed a T-shirt and tossed it at him. "Put this on. We're going to the hospital."

The T-shirt landed on his face, but he didn't move to take it off, either too lazy or too weak.

A muffled voice came from under the fabric. "Not going to the hospital."

Winona yanked the shirt off his face, glaring. "You have a fever, and the wound's probably infected. Stop acting like a child."

She took a deep breath and turned her back. "Put on your clothes."

A burning hand grabbed her fingers. Austin's voice was hoarse but firm. "Winona, I can't go to the hospital."

Winona instinctively asked, "Why?"

Austin looked at her. "Sorry, I can't say."

"It's okay," Winona realized his injury might be mission-related. "Then I'll take you to back home?"

Austin's injury couldn't be ignored.

The Davis family could find a discreet doctor.

"Can't go there either."

"Any close, trustworthy friends?"

Winona asked, not expecting much. If he had any, he wouldn't be hiding out here alone.

Unexpectedly, Austin said, "Yes, you."

Winona fell silent.

Austin closed his eyes. "If it's too much trouble, don't worry about it. The fortune teller said I'd live to be a hundred. See, it's been days, and I'm still kicking."

"Yeah, barely," she snapped, glaring at him. "Can you walk? Cars can't get in here."

Austin pressed his tongue against his cheek. "I can."

Feeling weak and aching, Austin took his time getting dressed.

Turned out, he could barely move. As soon as he got out of bed, he almost collapsed.

Winona tried to catch him, but she wasn't strong enough. Luckily, Austin grabbed the wall, stopping them both from falling.

"Sorry, slept too long, legs are weak."

On the way downstairs, most of Austin's weight was on her, nearly making Winona collapse.

Sunlight streamed through the stairwell, heating the concrete floor.

Winona was hot and tired, sweat rolling down her forehead and dripping onto her thick, dark eyelashes.

Afraid the sweat would get into her eyes, she kept her head down. "Didn't you say you could walk?"

Austin, tall and broad, had his arm around Winona's shoulder, leaning heavily on her, looking like he was holding her.

"Yeah," Austin's voice was full of suppressed pain, sweat pouring off him, his Adam's apple bobbing, his tone slow and deliberate. "If I don't walk, can you support me?"

He had a point.

Winona couldn't argue, so she stayed silent to save her strength.

Finally getting Austin into the car, she was exhausted, using two tissues to wipe the sweat from her neck and face.

Winona started the car, setting the air conditioning to the lowest fan speed. Having just emerged from the sweltering heat, she feared a sudden blast of cold air might cause Austin to pass out.

Seeing her only care about wiping her own sweat, ignoring his condition, Austin wanted to make a joke, but the short walk had drained all his energy, and he quickly fell asleep.

Winona drove back to Regal Oaks.

She had considered taking Austin to a hotel and calling the Bailey family's doctor to treat his wound, but she thought better of it.

She didn't know if he had offended someone. If something happened after she brought him to a hotel—a place where anyone could come and go—it would be worse than just leaving him in the rental.

Winona parked the car in front of the main villa and turned to wake the sleeping Austin. "We're here. Get out."

Austin opened his eyes, his dazed gaze taking a moment to focus.

Seeing the surroundings clearly, he pressed his lips together. If he had the strength, his fingers would have clenched. "Zachary's place?"

Even though he just saw a corner of the house, the high-end materials used in the external decor and the meticulous craftsmanship showed the high value, even the floor tiles had a different sheen.

Winona responded, acknowledging his guess.

Austin raised an eyebrow, his eyes darkening. "You made up with him?"
