Chapter 260 Occasionally Impulse

Matthew touched his nose and said awkwardly, "Although men occasionally have impulses in terms of sex, Zachary..."

For the first time, he was discussing such matters with the woman he was pursuing, making the conversation somewhat awkward. "Zachary shouldn't be hiring prostitutes, and this woman shouldn't be his type."

As it turned out, Matthew was wrong because the woman did not come out of Zachary's room again. With Zachary's temperament, if he weren't interested, he would have kicked her out long ago.

Looking at her with some concern, Matthew said, "Winona."

Winona smiled at him, showing no signs of sadness between her brows and eyes.
"You've had a long day today. You should go back to your room and rest early. Tomorrow, we still have to explore the interior of the building, right?"

After saying goodbye to Matthew, Winona closed the door.
Passing by the writing desk, she picked up another phone card and dialed the police, recounting what she had seen in the upstairs bar.

She was fulfilling her duty as a law-abiding citizen. After hanging up, she went to take a shower and didn't pay attention to the subsequent developments.

Half an hour later, there was a knock on Winona's door. "Police, open up for a routine check."

Winona swung open the door to find two police officers standing outside.
"We are law enforcement officers here to conduct an inquiry with you."

The police asked Winona a few questions as part of their routine check, confirmed that she lived alone, and then continued to knock on other doors.

As Winona was about to close the door, a hand reached in, halting her movement. In the next moment, Zachary, who was supposed to be in the adjacent room, sidled through the partially open doorway in a sideways manner.

"Zachary, what are you doing?"
She widened her eyes in surprise, not expecting the person preventing her from closing the door to be Zachary.
This man was always proud and had never done such a messy thing before.

Closing the door with a backhand, he was wearing home clothes and exuding a faint scent of shower gel, which the hotel had provided.
She had just used it while showering, so she recognized it immediately.

Zachary glanced at her lightly. "If you shout any louder, we'll be spending the night at the police station. With this kind of police arrest, there is usually media outside. If you're not afraid of being recognized by acquaintances on TV, I don't mind."

Zachary's directness put her in a difficult position. Winona was truly afraid because she cared about her reputation.

Gritting her teeth, she lowered her voice and asked through clenched teeth. "What are you doing here?"

Zachary replied without dignity, "I'm going to sleep."

"Your room is next door."

"Yes." one could discern from his tone that his current mood was rather somber, Zachary stepped over her and laid down on the bed by the window.
"My room has been messed up."
Having just emerged from the bathroom, he came back to find a seductive woman reclining on the bed, her body in an S-shape, black pencil skirt so short that the edges of her panties were visible.
Fortunately, he didn't have the habit of walking out naked after showering while staying at the hotel.

Winona understood, yet she showed no inclination to accommodate Zachary. This was a hotel after all, with no shortage of vacant rooms.

She furrowed her brow as she walked to the side of the bed, gently nudging his legs that hung over the edge with her knees bent.
"You should ask the front desk for another room. I have to work tomorrow and need to sleep."
Zachary squinted, one hand propped behind his head as he observed her, saying, "You seem not at all surprised by what might have dirtied my bed."

"I'm not that curious. If I were curious about everything, I'd die before retiring."

"Did you see that woman enter my room?"

Winona pulled her lips and smiled casually, "Men have needs, I understand."

Zachary looked at her in silence.

Fresh from the bath, Winona's cheeks were faintly flushed from the steam. Her eyes moist and her hair towel-dried, she left damp traces on her clothes.

"As long as you understand." Zachary's Adam's apple bobbed gently, followed by a soft laugh that escaped his lips.

Their conversation was interrupted by Winona's ringing phone.

As she approached and glimpsed at the caller ID displayed on the screen, she instinctively glanced towards Zachary.

The call was coming from the emergency dispatch center.

The ringtone persisted for a moment longer, leaving her in a moment of hesitation about whether to answer.

Having recently engaged in questionable actions, now in Zachary's presence, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.

Zachary nonchalantly remarked, "Well, this hotel has been under police surveillance for some time now. However, such activities are sporadic and unpredictable, which is why the authorities have never caught them in the act. Your report this time has actually greatly assisted them. They may be calling to express gratitude to you as a responsible citizen."

His voice was nonchalant, almost languid, as if he saw through it all.
Winona, almost instinctively, murmured, "You actually knew it was me who made the call."

In response to her, Zachary chuckled softly, "I was curious earlier and inquired about the person who reported the incident was staying at this hotel. From the voice, it seemed to be a young lady. I wasn't sure it was you then, but now I am certain."

Certainly, he must have employed some means to acquire this information, as the police did not typically disclose the identities of informants to prevent potential reprisals.

He pursed his lips, his expression slightly awkward, and asked, "Are you feeling envious?"

"I didn't call that woman, and nothing happened between us. I called the housekeeper to change the sheets. I don't know why."

Winona's phone stopped ringing because she hadn't answered it for a long time, and the call was automatically disconnected.

She took out the card and replaced it with her usual one. "Mr. Bailey, no one gets divorced and still manages their ex to hire prostitutes. I find such things distasteful."

Her emotions were actually a bit off when she mentioned this, but her pupils were darker than usual. Zachary couldn't see her face, and he couldn't detect anything unusual from her voice, so he didn't notice.

Winona quickly regained her composure. As she turned around after changing the card, the darkness in her eyes became light.

"I just did what a good citizen should do," she said.

She handed the phone over, making it easier for Zachary to see the content on the screen.

It was a mass text that the government would send to the residents of Mode City.

The general content was about Mode Mode City actively cracking down on various illegal activities to create a civilized city, hoping that the public would report actively.

Zachary's face darkened.

What a good citizen should do? It was clearly a sarcastic remark about his self-absorption.
