Chapter 673 Pack Up and Send Away

Winona wasn't about to just hand it over. She lifted her hand, dodging Zachary's outstretched one, and set the breakfast on the nightstand. "I wasn't sure what you'd like, so I got a bit of everything. See if there's anything you want."

Sandwiches, pancakes, wraps, coffee, oatmeal... The hospital cafeteria didn't have much else.

Zachary glanced over. "I'll take a sandwich."

Since his arm was injured, Winona unwrapped the sandwich before giving it to him. "You should sit up and eat."

Zachary's injuries were all on his upper body; his legs were fine. He could get up to eat, but he just looked at Winona, leaning back against the headboard without moving. "I'm the patient here."

Winona looked at him, puzzled.

"Other people get taken care of when they're hurt," Zachary said, lifting his arm just enough for Winona to see the swelling from where the car door had slammed on it. "It hurts a bit. Maybe the anesthesia's wearing off."

Rebecca was stunned. Where did this two-faced act come from? She even suspected Zachary wasn't saying this for Winona's benefit but for Matthew, who was in the next bed.

If Rebecca could see through it, there was no way Winona couldn't. She glared at him, annoyed. Childish.

Matthew had been asleep the whole time. He hadn't even glanced her way since she came in, clearly showing he had no interest in her. Yet Zachary was still jealous.

Winona didn't want to deal with him, but the memory of the video she saw when she was tied up softened her heart. She couldn't bring herself to refuse.

She picked up the sandwich and held it to Zachary's lips.

He didn't look at the sandwich but instead focused on her rosy lips, restraining himself from kissing her. He had wanted to when he saw her crying in the warehouse, but the situation wasn't right. So he had pushed the thought down.

Now, that suppressed desire resurfaced, stronger than before.

Zachary glanced around the room at the others, then took a bite of the sandwich, chewing forcefully. He needed to finish this quickly and get everyone out of here.

After eating, Zachary started discussing Alton's case with Anthony. The results of the kidnapping interrogation weren't out yet, and the current evidence wasn't enough to convict him. If they couldn't get him into jail this time, he'd be released in 24 hours.

Rebecca leaned in close to Winona, whispering, "Why do I feel like Zachary's getting more and more dramatic? Is that even contagious? He can't even eat breakfast without you feeding him, and he won't just say it."

Winona whispered back, "Are you and Mr. Lewis a thing now? You're always together. I was starting to think you two were living together."

Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence?

Outside of work, where Rebecca was, Anthony was there seven out of ten times.

Rebecca poked Winona's waist with her finger. "I'm talking about you and Zachary. Don't change the subject."

Winona, being ticklish, twisted away, laughing. The sound reached Zachary's ears, making it even harder for him to focus on these annoying matters.

Luckily, they were almost done, so he issued a dismissal. "Everyone should go rest. It's been a tough few days. We'll discuss the next steps once the police finish their interrogation."

Anthony nodded, pulling Rebecca along, and Matthew, too tired to drive, joined them.

With the door closed, the room fell silent. The occasional footsteps and voices from the hallway only made the quiet between the two of them more pronounced.

Winona tidied up the breakfast containers on the nightstand while Zachary watched her. After a while, he couldn't hold back any longer and grabbed her hand. "Winona, listen, I..."

His words stopped abruptly, his eyes widening in surprise.

Winona had leaned down and kissed him. Her lips were soft, carrying a subtle, intoxicating scent even without any gloss.

Zachary's mind went blank, but he instinctively wrapped his arm around her waist, deepening the kiss.

She stood while he sat, her long hair cascading down, gently brushing against his shoulders and slipping into his open collar, tangling around his throat and collarbone.

The golden morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm, romantic glow over them.

The scene was beautiful.

After what felt like an eternity, Zachary reluctantly released her lips, looking at her flushed face and the love in her eyes.

His fingers lightly traced her waist as he let out a suppressed groan. "I think I'm feeling much better. It doesn't hurt anymore. Can I be discharged now?"

Zachary's face was serious, but the desire in his eyes gave him away.

Winona shattered his fantasy without mercy. "You need to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. Even when you're discharged, you can't do any strenuous activities. You've got internal bleeding. You need to rest for at least a few months."

Winona sat on the edge of the bed, looking at his well-defined fingers. After a long pause, she spoke. "I won't leave you."

"Even if you forget, I won't leave you. Memories are precious because of the people who create them, not the memories themselves. As long as you're the same person, old and new memories won't matter," she repeated, fearing he might not understand.

She looked up at him, her face resolute. "Zachary, I won't leave you."

Winona rarely spoke so emotionally or showed her feelings. She didn't know how Zachary felt, but she was moved by her own words, finding them both philosophical and heartfelt.

Zachary was silent for a few seconds, then asked seriously, "What if I don't remember you but remember having a fiancée named Aria and loving her deeply? Would you still want me?"

He was testing her. The doctor had said his future memories might be confused, blurred, or even completely forgotten.

He wanted to know under what circumstances Winona would leave him.

Zachary, that damn man, seemed to have a grudge against romance, always breaking the warm atmosphere.

Her sentiment froze on her face. She curled her lips in a cold sneer, her voice harsh. "No, I wouldn't. I'd pack you up and ship you straight to Aria."
