Chapter 581 Fake Marriage
Winona's first thought when she heard the voice was, "Who the hell is this idiot?" Her second thought was, "Why does this idiot sound so much like Zachary?"
She spun around, and sure enough, there was Zachary. "When did you get here?"
"Just now," Zachary said casually.
He had walked in just in time to catch enough of the conversation to figure out what was happening.
Seeing the credit card being handed over, the sales associate was all smiles and ready to take it. But Winona was quicker, snatching the card back. "Let's keep looking. I don't want something that's been touched by someone dirty."
Cecilia's face darkened instantly. "What do you mean by that?"
Winona shot back, "Isn't that what you said? Whatever you meant, I mean the same."
Cecilia glanced at Zachary, but despite her anger, she had to hold it in. "Are you two getting married?"
Zachary looked Cecilia up and down, confirming he didn't know her. "Who are you? And what does our marriage have to do with you?"
Cecilia was speechless.
It had nothing to do with her. She didn't dare have any thoughts about Zachary now. She just couldn't stand Winona and wanted to snatch the ring from her. If it weren't for Winona, she wouldn't have been punished by being sent to work in the middle of nowhere, and her dad wouldn't have cut off her allowance.
Winona had clearly been kicked out by Zachary, yet she managed to win him back. She really had some tricks up her sleeve.
Zachary looked down at Winona. Under the light, her skin looked flawless. He couldn't resist reaching out to pinch her cheek. It felt so good.
And there were so many people watching.
Winona's cheeks turned red. Just as she was about to pull away, Zachary's question distracted her. "Did you see this ring first?"
"Yes, but Cecilia snatched it."
Winona was really two-faced. She was clearly complaining, yet she put on an innocent act.
"Whoever pays first gets it. You can't expect everyone to wait until she's done trying it on before they can buy it. Even if Mr. Bailey is powerful, he can't be unreasonable," Cecilia muttered, her voice small but firm.
Zachary wouldn't argue with a woman, but he would take it out on the man. "Is she your girlfriend?"
Lon, who had been trying to make himself as inconspicuous as possible since recognizing Zachary, now wished he could slap the foolish woman beside him. She knew Zachary's woman was involved, yet she still egged him on to fight for the ring. Now she dared to confront Zachary. She was clearly trying to get him in trouble.
"No, just a fling. I have something to do, so I'll be going. Since Cecilia has offended..." Lon didn't know how to address Winona and wasn't sure of their relationship. "This lady, I'll leave her to you."
With that, Lon bolted, afraid Cecilia would cling to him if he stayed.
"Lon!" Cecilia called after him, but he only ran faster.
Even though she didn't like Lon, being abandoned like that made her feel wronged and on the verge of tears.
Winona tilted her chin towards the door. "Your two million dollars just ran off. Aren't you going to chase after it?"
Winona was clearly mocking her.
Cecilia looked at Winona, then at Zachary, stomped her foot, and ran out of the jewelry store in tears.
Zachary asked, "You're just gonna let her go?"
"What else? You wanna invite her to lunch?"
"No, you handle it," Zachary said, glancing at the jewelry in the display case. "See anything else you like?"
Winona hopped off the high stool. "Nah, let's check out another store."
She had her eye on that one ring, but her mood was ruined by someone she couldn't stand.
The sales associate's smile vanished instantly.
Her huge commission just flew away.
After almost going through the entire mall, Winona finally found a ring she liked.
Zachary held her hand. "Let's go eat."
Winona had been walking around for so long that her legs were sore. She just wanted to sit down and rest, so she suggested they eat upstairs.
They chose a Chinese restaurant, and to their surprise, they ran into Abigail and a man.
As luck would have it, the only empty table was right next to theirs.
Abigail had her back to them and didn't see Winona and Zachary.
She said, "Kurt, I'm not going back with you, and I'm not gonna be your caged bird."
Kurt frowned. Abigail breaking free from his control was frustrating him. "You want to take back the company? Do you even know how to run it? Even if you're the Watson family's heiress, do you think the shareholders will accept you?"
"Do you even know what businesses the Watson Group owns?"
Abigail had already planned to sell the company once she got her shares back. She wanted to travel the world, do some flower arranging, make some jewelry, and not worry about anything.
Having money and free time was great. Why bother making more money? The Watson Group's sale would give her enough to live lavishly for a lifetime.
But she didn't plan to waste time explaining this to Kurt. "I don't know how to run a business, manage, or even know all the Watson Group's assets. But there are plenty of professional managers. Can't I just hire one? Do you think you're the only business genius in the world?"
Kurt frowned. "Hire a manager? With your brain, you'd probably get swindled and not even realize it."
He was blatantly looking down on her.
Abigail was so angry that she laughed. Zachary had always looked down on her, calling her stupid. But back then, she was happy to cater to him, even if he despised her.
But now, he was married to that bitch Audrey. Why should she still put up with him? Just because he had thick skin and had kicked her, his legitimate wife, to the curb?
"I can marry a man who knows business. How I run the company is none of your business. You're just my dad's adopted son, hired as the Watson Group's CEO. The Watson family's assets have nothing to do with you. Once I regain control, the first thing I'll do is fire you."
Zachary asked, "You're gonna fire me?"
"Of course. Why keep a wolf in the fold? You and Audrey can both get lost."
"My marriage to Audrey is fake. It's just on paper. We have no real relationship. I've explained this to you," Kurt said, pinching the bridge of his nose and trying to stay patient. "And not many people know. I'll find a place for her soon, and she won't come back to Dreamopolis."
"Fine. To be fair, I'll find a man to fake marry. We'll talk about the future once we're both single again."
