Chapter 237 See If You're Dead Yet

Winona felt it, but she had no strength left to look. However, Zachary, even in such a situation, still had sharp eyes, squinting as he watched the person coming up from the mountain path.

It wasn't Samuel.

Only one person, wearing professional outdoor rain gear with excellent rain protection, stood steadily on the slippery mountain path in sturdy black military boots.

"Winona."

Seeing Winona, who was already semi-conscious and tightly held by Zachary, the person hurried a few steps to reach them.

It was Austin's voice.

Zachary, who had been tense all along, finally relaxed like a deflated balloon. He asked, "Why are you alone?"

Austin was bending down to check Winona's condition, and with a cold smile. He said, "To see if you're dead yet. If you're not, I'll kick you and send you down the mountain."

He clipped the flashlight to his waist and reached out to pull Winona out of Zachary's arms.

Zachary instinctively tightened his grip, not too strong, but enough to create resistance. Austin stared at Zachary's pale face with his cold, piercing gaze from a close distance. "Do you want her to freeze to death here with you?"

When it started raining, Austin was already driving towards the mountains, which explained why he arrived earlier than Samuel and the others. Luckily, he had professional mountaineering equipment in his car. Otherwise, if he had to climb up in the rain, he probably wouldn't fare any better than Zachary.

Although Samuel had reminded him that Zachary wouldn't actually take Winona to court, Austin never imagined that a billionaire like him would bring her to this abandoned observation deck that had been deserted for who knew how long.

And he had no idea if this place even existed.

He drove back down the mountain.

He was certain that Zachary, moving on this treacherous mountain road with cliffs on one side and precipices on the other, couldn't possibly be faster than him. While it might be extremely dangerous for others, it was something he was already accustomed to; he could drive it with his eyes closed.

Yet, he still hadn't caught up with Zachary until he reached the foot of the mountain.

Austin hesitated for a few seconds, then turned around and headed back up the hill.

It had taken him quite a while to find this place, and he couldn't help but think, 'Why did you have to choose such a rundown place? When people pursue women, they usually go to romantic places. However, you go wherever is dangerous.'

Even many employees at the resort didn't know there was an observation deck at the mountaintop. In the end, Austin had to ask an old employee who had been working there for over a decade before he found it. Recalling Rebecca's mention of the lunar eclipse yesterday, Austin decided to try his luck and, unexpectedly, he indeed found it.

And it was lucky that he did find it.

Zachary ignored his sarcastic remarks, released the hand that had been tightly holding Winona's waist, and said, "She can't hold on anymore; you'd better run faster."

If Winona hadn't been in such a critical condition, he would have taken advantage of Zachary's weakness and given him a good beating.

Austin opened his raincoat, allowing Winona's cold body to press against his. Despite being accustomed to such harsh weather during training and missions, the chill from her body still made every muscle in his body tense up when he held Winona in his arms,.

He frowned, turned around without wasting a moment, and said, "Hang in there. I'll get someone to rescue you after I go down the mountain."

This was directed at Zachary.

"Don't bother. Samuel has already sent people up the mountain, and the ambulance is on its way. Just make sure Winona is safely handed over to the doctor."

"You, as her ex-husband, why are you being so intimate to her? Did Winona ask you to call her that? You should call her Mrs. Sullivan."

Despite the banter, Austin's pace didn't slow down.

Zachary replied, "She was fine when I handed her over to you. If anything happens to her in your hands, I won't let you off."

Holding Winona, who felt like a block of ice, Austin wondered, 'Is she really "fine" now?'

If he hadn't already walked far away, Zachary couldn't hear him, and Winona's condition didn't allow any delay, Austin would have definitely argued with Zachary.

Zachary watched the beam of light getting farther and farther away, then leaned against a rough tree trunk nearby and slowly closed his eyes.

When Samuel and Matthew arrived with the rescue team, Zachary was already barely conscious. The chaotic footsteps didn't even elicit a response from him, However, when the flashlight shone on his face, Zachary felt uncomfortable and slowly opened his eyes, furrowing his brows. Seeing Zachary open his eyes, both Samuel and Matthew breathed a sigh of relief.

Matthew draped a raincoat over him and asked, "Can you hold on?"

Zachary looked at him, puzzled for a few seconds before finally recognizing the person in front of him, turning his head away. This thief stole his prize .

Matthew had Winona's affection without any effort.

Matthew was baffled.

Were it not for his sense of courtesy, Matthew would have given Zachary a piece of his mind.

Matthew climbed such a high mountain to save Zachary in such freezing and rainy weather, yet he still had the nerve to argue with him. Matthew should have turned around and gone back down the hill as soon as he saw Austin holding Winona.

Matthew stood up and said, "If you have the energy to argue, then you have the strength to get up and walk."

Samuel, not in a good mood, pulled Zachary up from the ground and handed him over to the bodyguards carrying a makeshift stretcher. "Are you two crazy? Debating at a time like this."

As Zachary was being taken down the mountain, Winona had already been taken away by the ambulance.

After Zachary went back to the mansion, he took a hot bath, changed into dry clothes, and started feeling better. When he came out of the room, Samuel, who had been standing outside the door, stood up and asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"

"No," Zachary replied as he put on his watch and walked downstairs. "Which hospital did the ambulance come from?"

"You should know that Winona has made it clear that she doesn't want anything to do with you anymore. She wants to stay as far away from you as possible. If you want to go to the hospital for a check-up because you're not feeling well, that's fine. After being frozen up like a stray dog for so long, you want to find her as soon as you feel better. Are you shameless?"

Zachary ignored Samuel and was already at the staircase.

Samuel followed leisurely with his hands in his pockets. The rain outside hadn't stopped, and he was worried that Zachary might get hurt. "If you're horny, I can introduce a girlfriend to you. I have photos of some single ladie on my phone. Take a look and pick a few?"

Zachary stopped in his tracks and turned around. "Pick a few? Does Julia know that you have so many other women's photos on your phone?"
