Chapter 595 Have You Made a Will?

Maeve stood outside, staring at the curves on the screen. When she noticed Matthew watching her, she smiled, nodded, and then turned to walk away.

Matthew's tense body relaxed as he leaned back on the couch. He glanced at the time; it was already past six. Seeing that Zachary was still asleep and no doctor had come in, he pulled out his phone to text Winona. Halfway through typing, he realized something was off.

If this were a business meeting between the two companies, why could he text, but Zachary's phone was off? If it wasn't, then why would it be his place to inform Winona?

After thinking it over, he decided it was best to have the assistant handle it.

He knew Zachary was the jealous type, always wary of him talking to Winona. There was no way Zachary would willingly let him text her. It was all a setup.

Matthew briefly explained the situation to his assistant and asked her to contact Winona. Then he tossed his phone aside.

Samuel had really picked the perfect time for this business trip.

Zachary finished his check-up around nine. He had only slept for less than two hours and spent the rest of the time with his eyes closed, pretending to sleep.

Maeve printed out the results and handed them to him. "Violette is off duty. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the results. Her online appointments are fully booked. Do you want me to book an appointment for you at the registration window tomorrow morning?"

Zachary replied, "No need."

Matthew glanced at the thick stack of papers in Zachary's hand. "What's wrong with you?"

"I already told you, early-onset Alzheimer's. If you don't understand, look it up online."

Matthew was silent for a moment before asking, "Have you made a will? It'd be a shame to forget about all that money."

Zachary was so angry that he could die from it. "No matter how much money I have, it has nothing to do with you. Don't worry about it."

Matthew let out a meaningful, cold laugh.

Winona had just finished a meeting when she received a call from Matthew's assistant, Sophie. "Winona, Mr. Bailey, and our Mr. Watson are in a meeting, and their phones are off. He asked me to call you if the meeting wasn't over by six, so you wouldn't worry."

"They're in a meeting together?"

"Yes, there's a project our company wants to collaborate on with the Bailey Group. They're still in discussions, nothing final yet."

Sophie had prepared her lines to avoid further questions from Winona. She quickly changed the subject, enviously saying, "Winona, Mr. Bailey really cares about you. You must have found him with a lantern. Can I borrow that lantern to find someone like him?"

Sophie and Winona had a good relationship, so she dared to joke like this.

After chatting for a bit, Winona saw Zachary's message about working late.

Zachary working late was common, so she didn't think much of it and replied with an "Okay." She was about to send another message when Caleb called her. "Windy."

Winona put away her phone, turned around, and smiled. "Caleb."

"Think carefully about the overseas competition. It's a rare chance to gain fame, learn, and test your skills. You're young and have a long career ahead. More experience will help you build your reputation."

The meeting had just decided on the participants, and Winona hadn't given an immediate answer. Caleb knew she wasn't in it for the money but for the passion, so he wanted to make sure she didn't make a hasty decision.

"I know you young folks are head over heels and hate being apart, but you can't neglect your career."

"The competition won't keep you abroad for long. If Mr. Bailey misses you, he can always visit. He can afford the plane ticket, right?"

Winona knew Caleb misunderstood. Her hesitation wasn't about being apart from Zachary, but she didn't explain. She just smiled, "Thanks, Caleb. I'll seriously consider it."

"Good. The deadline is in a week. Let me know your decision."

"Okay."

When Winona returned to Regal Oaks, Zachary wasn't home yet. She turned on the light and went to the kitchen to make some instant noodles.

It was too cold outside, and she didn't want to go out for food.

She had just finished eating and was about to check her phone when she heard the door open. Zachary was back.

The smell of instant noodles still lingered in the air. Zachary changed his shoes and walked in, frowning. "Didn't eat dinner?"

Winona gestured to the dishes on the coffee table. "Just ate. Want some? Spicy beef flavor."

"Why didn't you grab something on your way back? Instant noodles aren't nutritious," Zachary said, easily pulling Winona into his arms. He wrapped his hands around her waist, feeling her sides. "Too skinny."

It felt more like he was measuring her.

Whatever he was thinking, Zachary repeated, "Too skinny isn't good."

Winona replied coolly, "What's wrong with being skinny?"

Her expression suggested that if Zachary dared to give a reason, she'd flip out.

Zachary chuckled and kissed her. "Too beautiful."

He had just come in from the cold, while Winona was warm from the heating. His cool touch felt comfortable, and she snuggled closer.

As Zachary leaned in to kiss her, Winona leaned back, scrutinizing him. "What's wrong?" Zachary asked, his smile fading.

Winona said, "Just checking if a fairy possessed you, making you say such sweet things."

Zachary felt wronged. "I've said it before, but you called me cheesy."

He looked at her with a pitiful expression.

Winona covered his face with her hand. "Don't look at me like that."

He was already incredibly handsome, and that look was too much for her self-control.

Her hand was warm and soft, with a faint scent from her hand cream.

Zachary's vision went dark, and the next second, Winona's soft lips pressed against his. Unlike his intense, possessive kisses, hers were gentle, sweet, and affectionate.

He tightened his grip on her waist, holding her as if he wanted to merge them into one. Just as he was about to take control, Winona suddenly pushed him away.
