Chapter 108 Zachary's Peculiar Habits
Mr. Baker sensed something amiss between the two. "Windy, who is he?"
Winona was about to speak when she heard Zachary say, "I'm Winona's husband. It's raining, so I've come to pick her up."
As he spoke, he drew her closer into his embrace.
"Yes, he's my husband." Winona's expression stiffened. "He's not very polite, Mr. Baker. Please don't mind him."
Mr. Baker chuckled at her comment. "Don't be annoyed. He's just concerned about you, and this place isn't easy to find."
The street was lined with buildings like these, and the shop he chose wasn't particularly well-known or advantageously located. Even after knowing the name, finding it wouldn't be easy.
Windy was also surprised by his unexpected appearance, as, clearly, no location had been shared.
Just this level of thoughtfulness alone was evidence enough of his deep care for her.
Winona had no choice but to nod in agreement.
After bidding Mr. Baker farewell, her countenance instantly darkened. "How did you end up here?"
She wouldn't buy any coincidences.
If fate were so kind, they wouldn't be at the point where separation was the only option.
"Dylan said you were dining here."
"You've had someone follow me, right?"
This place was significantly far from the Bailey Group's office building. It was improbable Dylan would know she was dining here without Zachary's instruction.
Zachary didn't contest. Instead, he pulled her into the car.
Winona raised an eyebrow. Her voice was laced with contempt. "So you're here, but surely not just to take me home, right?"
She didn't fuss about getting out of the car; first, because Zachary had a firm grip on her hand, she had tried to wriggle free to no avail; and second, she didn't want to drench herself in the rain hailing a cab.
Why refuse a ride that's so readily available? Besides, she owned half of that car.
Zachary replied, "No."
Winona's eyes widened in shock.
His brazen admission confirmed he was the perfect embodiment of shamelessness and callousness.
Zachary instructed Brian, "To the mall."
"For what exactly? It's so late." Winona frowned.
"Shopping."
"Are you—" Winona's brow furrowed. She was ready to scold.
"Aren't we discussing divorce?" Zachary cut her off. "If you refuse private terms and can't win in court, perhaps you should consider how to keep me in high spirits. If I'm happy, I just might agree to the divorce."
His remark left Winona speechless.
Seeing the expression on her face, Zachary knew she had acquiesced. The corners of his lips curled upwards, and a glimmer of amusement flickered in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a touch of self-mockery.
Because Zachary didn't specify which mall to go to and it was getting late, Brian drove straight to a large shopping center.
There was also a night market near the shopping center—perfect for a couple's date.
The moment the car door opened, a cacophony of sounds rushed in. Winona stepped out and stood aside, waiting for Zachary to lead the way.
Shopping was his idea after all, and she had no clue what he wanted to buy.
Winona had intended to let him walk ahead while she followed, despite her high heels. Men naturally aren't too keen on shopping. It didn't matter if the heels were five centimeters or ten; she could endure it.
Zachary took a few steps forward and, seeing that Winona hadn't moved, reached out to hold her hand, pulling her to his side. "If I wanted to take a subordinate shopping, I could have easily picked anyone from the secretarial department. Why would I bother to go out of my way to pick you up?"
Winona was about to retort, but considering her current situation as the underdog, she conjured up a smile and responded playfully, "Alright then, lead the way. I'll follow you."
Zachary's gaze coldly swept over her lips, where a painfully insincere smile lingered. "Shut up! Don't smile."
He wanted to ask if she looked the same while shopping with Matthew, but thought better of it and swallowed his words.
Winona dropped the smile and looked at him expressionlessly, which only annoyed Zachary more.
The first floor of the mall sold skincare products, shoes, and desserts. Winona, led by him, wandered aimlessly the entire floor before taking the elevator to the second level.
Along the way, she tried to slip her hand out of his grip but was unsuccessful.
She had thought Zachary would head straight up since the second floor was dedicated to lingerie and women's apparel, but he did not.
Winona glanced at the dazzling array of lingerie, including some suggestive designs. She leaned closer and whispered, "Do you have some secret fetish?"
Otherwise, why would they visit the lingerie floor?
Zachary did not glance away. "If I say yes, will you try them on for me?"
Winona retracted her head.
The mall was divided into a north and south section, and each floor was incredibly spacious. Zachary hadn't entered any stores on other floors, and although the fourth floor had the menswear section, he showed no interest in shopping there either.
They just walked along the corridors; it was less like shopping and more like an inspection tour, though Winona knew that this mall wasn't owned by the Bailey Group.
Talk about shopping—this man was simply trying to torment her.
Winona pointed at an outfit on a mannequin in a store. "That suit looks nice. Why don't you try it on?"
The spring collection was out now, and the display window outfits were rather extravagant.
Zachary followed her pointing finger to a suit. It was green with very noticeable patterns.
He looked at Winona. Her lips curled in a smile, and her head tilted as she smiled at him.
The man's Adam's apple bobbed once. "Okay."
Winona just wanted to find a place to sit down and rest for a bit. Her heels were rubbed raw, and asking him to try on that green suit was simply her strategy. She expected him to refuse so that she could choose something more subdued, but she hadn't anticipated his swift agreement.
Winona quickly pulled him into the store and seated herself on the sofa. Then she pointed to the suit and said to the assistant, "Fetch him the right size."
As Zachary entered the changing room, he said something in a low voice to the nearby sales assistant, who nodded and left.
The man changed clothes quickly, and within minutes, he reemerged.
It must be said that a good-looking man with a fine physique looks great in anything, even in a green suit that only a few can pull off.
The sales assistant, who had scurried off, returned with a shoebox in her hands. She headed straight for Winona, but as she passed by Zachary, he took the box from her.
Zachary walked over to the sofa, knelt down, opened the shoebox with one hand, and, with the other, reached for Winona's ankle.
