Chapter 391 You Want to See the Live-Action Version
Zachary wasn't the type to shower her with sweet words. Sure, he was super considerate and always there for her, but he just wasn't one of those guys who laid it on thick. Maybe that's why, when he did say something sweet, it hit her right in the feels.
Winona turned her head a bit, dodging his gaze that was messing with her thoughts, and tried to pull her hand away.
But Zachary just tightened his grip, a faint smile playing on his lips. "So, hearing that I've liked you for so many years, got anything to say?"
He looked calm, but inside, he was a bundle of nerves.
Winona pressed her lips together. She wanted to give him a stern look to scare him a bit, but she ended up laughing instead. "You goof, you even confessed to the wrong person."
"I saw you there, so I went over. I just didn't expect..."
What a crazy coincidence.
Winona rolled her eyes, a bit annoyed. "Maybe the god thinks a guy who only dares to confess in the dark doesn't deserve a girlfriend. That's why all these mix-ups happened."
Thinking back, it was kinda funny. What a dork!
Zachary lowered his eyelids, his lashes hiding the emotions in his eyes. "I confessed in the dark because I was scared you'd definitely reject me."
Even though she knew he might be faking it, and even though it hurt back then, a lot of time had passed. After that, he even dated Fiona. He said he didn't have feelings for her, but he still gave her money and resources, indulged her, which was kinda different.
But seeing him like this, Winona couldn't help but soften a bit. She tugged at his hand and said in a slightly annoyed tone, "It's our wedding anniversary today. Are you planning to have me drink coffee all day?"
Zachary stood up, letting her pull him along. "It's still early. Let's grab some food first, then catch a movie. Sound good?"
"Sure."
By the afternoon, the sun was blazing. When the door opened, the scorching air hit her bare legs, burning hot.
It was too hot, and Winona wasn't really hungry. She smiled a bit. "How about we hit up a Mexican place?"
The tangy and spicy flavors sounded more appealing.
Since Winona wanted to go, Zachary went along, even though he wasn't a big fan of Mexican food. The spices were too strong and too spicy, so he didn't eat much.
"What movie do you wanna watch?"
Winona wasn't really into the recent releases. A lot of big movies were waiting for the holidays. She shrugged. "Whatever, choose a movie that fits the best time."
After a bit, Zachary put down his phone. "Got tickets for the 2 PM show. It's a fifteen-minute drive, perfect timing after we eat."
"Isn't there a theater right across the street? Why go so far?"
"That movie's only showing at that theater."
Winona just nodded and didn't say more. She thought it was a movie about to go off-screen, only showing in a few places. But she didn't expect Zachary to take her to a couple's theater.
The movie was about a college couple who split up over which city to live in after graduation. The guy stayed in the college town, and the girl went back to her hometown.
They lost touch for five years.
Later, the guy got a new girlfriend. When they talked about marriage, he found the pictures of him and the girl and realized he still couldn't forget her. So he broke up with his current girlfriend, gave up his hard-earned career, and went to the city where the girl lived. He asked for forgiveness, and in the end, they opened their hearts to each other and got back together.
That movie was just a clichéd love story.
But what made Winona uneasy was that the emotions of the male and female leads in the movie were very intense. For example, one moment they were arguing fiercely, and the next moment they were having sex. It was already stimulating enough, and with the surround sound, she felt like she had been squatting by the bed where the leads were making love.
The seats in the couple's theater were all two-seater sofas. Winona slightly turned her head and saw a couple behind them already kissing. She tried to move further back...
Zachary held her chin and turned her face back to the screen. "Watch the movie, don't look around, or do you want to see a live version?"
A live version? In the theater?
Winona immediately didn't dare to look around, sitting stiffly and staring at the intertwined couple on the screen, surrounded by the sounds of panting and moaning.
She coughed, but the sound was completely drowned out by the movie. Just when she thought Zachary hadn't heard, he turned his head and said with concern, "What's wrong?"
The ambient noise was so loud that they had to speak close to each other's ears to be heard.
Winona gritted her teeth and said, "You're actually watching this kind of movie? Zachary, how can you be so perverted?"
Zachary looked at the fully clothed couple on the screen, pursed his lips, and was silent for a few seconds. "I asked Samuel to book the tickets. He said it was an art love film. I didn't expect this kind of art."
Actually, it was quite artistic. Whether in terms of narrative style or color tone, it could be considered artistic. It was feasible to call it an art film.
"Don't bring your weird prejudices. Just think of them as hugging. After all, they're fully clothed."
"So you're saying I'm the perverted one?"
Even though Zachary had low emotional intelligence, he knew he couldn't answer that carelessly. "No, it's that I didn't keep up with your thoughts."
Winona fell silent.
Did it make a difference? Wasn't he still calling her perverted? Just more subtly.
At the end of the movie, the male and female leads had a wedding. In the backstage, the supporting female character cried and asked the male lead, "All these years, did you ever have feelings for me? Even just a little?"
The male lead looked guilty and said, "Sorry, I've always only had her in my heart."
Then there was a self-analysis of feelings, making the female lead in the dressing room cry so much that her makeup was ruined. There were girls quietly sobbing in the back.
Winona didn't feel moved at all, just felt sorry for the makeup artist who spent two hours on that makeup. "How is this different from deceiving someone's feelings? They had hugged, kissed, and even slept together. Now, right before the wedding, he was acting all sentimental. Isn't he afraid God will punish him for being a playboy?"
Zachary was silent.
When the film ended, the lights didn't come on like in a regular theater, probably to give couples who lost control a chance to tidy up. Others started to leave, but Zachary remained seated.
He was outside, so if he didn't leave, Winona couldn't either.
She looked puzzled and said in a questioning tone, "What are you doing? The movie's over; let's go."
Zachary said, "Wait a moment."
Winona was puzzled, then seemed to realize something. She widened her eyes in sudden understanding, slightly opened her mouth, and whispered, "Zachary, did you get aroused by this crappy movie?"
