Chapter 507 Call an Ambulance

The Bailey Group's management offices were pretty soundproof, but Winona could still hear the ruckus inside as she stood at the door. Things were definitely getting heated.

Evander had landed in the hospital last night because of high blood pressure. The doc had told him to stay for a couple more days for observation, but Sarah texted saying he checked himself out early this morning, totally ignoring the doctor's advice. The doc had warned him over and over to keep his cool, avoid late nights, and steer clear of intense work.

Winona turned to Dylan and asked, "Who's in there again?"

Dylan replied, "The deputy manager of the project department. The project almost tanked because of him."

Winona frowned a bit and knocked on the door. The noise inside stopped immediately. Then the door swung open, and someone yanked her inside.

The door slammed shut.

Winona was still trying to figure out what was happening when she found herself inside the office.

The guy grabbed her neck from behind, clearly freaking out, and yelled, "Evander, are you gonna delete it or not? I told you it was just a moment of madness. I've busted my ass for the Bailey Group for most of my life. Even if I haven't done much, I've worked hard. Now, just because of this tiny mistake, you want to send me to the cops."

He added, "Fine, if you won't let me off, I won't let the Bailey family off either. I'll take a couple of you down with me even if I die."

Evander, sitting behind his desk, saw Winona being held by the neck. His hands on his knees clenched tightly. He said, "Everyone in the company knows what you did. I've already called the police. Do you think you can still get away?"

"So what if they know? Without concrete evidence, who can do anything to me?" the guy tightened his grip as he spoke. "I have elderly parents and young kids to care for. I can't be fired for this. Delete the evidence and promise not to pursue this, and I'll let Miss Sullivan go. I'll make up for the company's losses."

After listening for so long, Winona finally got the gist of the situation. She said, "Otis Patterson, I heard you've been divorced."

The guy asked, "What are you trying to say?"

Winona said, "If someone kidnapped your ex-wife now and tried to negotiate with your father, do you think your father would agree?"

"Shut up." Otis angrily tightened his grip, making Winona cough. "Of course not, but you're carrying Zachary's child, the only heir to the Bailey Group. Now that Zachary is dead, Evander won't risk his only grandchild."

Behind them, Dylan and the security guards forced the door open. Dylan was so shocked by the scene that he stuttered, "Otis, let's talk this out. Let Miss Sullivan go. If the police come and see this, they'll have to arrest you."

"Evander." Otis ignored him, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Evander behind the desk. "If you don't agree to my terms, I'll..."

Evander's gaze shifted past him to Dylan at the door.

Dylan gave Evander a barely noticeable nod.

The sound of police sirens from downstairs made Otis even more agitated. He exclaimed, "No signaling! Delete the evidence, or I'll..."He looked around frantically and shoved Winona against a decorative table with a potted plant, pressing her stomach against the table's edge. "Or the Bailey family is done for," he threatened.

He was desperate. Sure, Evander might have backups, but what if he didn't have time to make them? Deleting the evidence was better than not deleting it. This whole thing had blindsided Otis; he had no warning and no time to prepare. By the time he found out, all the evidence was already collected.

He didn't want to go to jail, and he definitely didn't have the guts to kill anyone.

Seeing this, Evander stood up from his seat, looking nervous. "Okay, I'll delete it. Just don't hurt my grandchild. We can talk this out," he said.

Otis swallowed nervously, his eyes wide with excitement. "Turn the computer screen around. If you want your grandchild to live, don't try any funny business."

Evander obediently turned the screen around, opened the incriminating evidence, and moved the mouse to delete it.

Otis watched his every move intently, his grip on Winona's neck loosening involuntarily.

Dylan, who had been watching Otis closely, suddenly raised his voice and shouted, "Mrs. Bailey, get out of the way!"

Winona, still thinking about how to escape, instinctively broke free from Otis's grip and moved aside when she heard Dylan's shout. Otis didn't care about her anymore; he cared about the child she was carrying. So when she moved away, he didn't try to pull her back but pushed her forward instead.

With that push, her stomach hit the table's edge hard.

Luckily, she was wearing thick clothes and had a pillow stuffed under her shirt, so it didn't hurt.

Otis was pinned to the ground by the security guards, unable to break free. Saliva dripped from his mouth as he let out incoherent roars.

Evander walked over to Winona, helped her up, and anxiously asked, "Winona, does your stomach hurt? I'll call an ambulance right away. Hang in there; the baby will be fine."

Winona was puzzled.

Didn't Evander know she wasn't pregnant? Why was he acting like she was about to miscarry?

Winona glanced at the people behind her and immediately understood Evander's intention. She was supposed to be a pregnant woman. After being struck like that, it was only natural for her stomach to hurt. The commotion had drawn the attention of the secretarial department, and now people were gathered outside the office, watching.

Who knew how many people had seen what just happened?

Winona clutched her stomach with one hand and held onto the table with the other, immediately putting on an act. She frowned, looking like she was in pain. "It does hurt a bit, but the baby..."

"What? You feel like the baby is going to fall out?" Evander interrupted her. "Dylan, quickly, get the car and take Winona to the hospital. Can you walk downstairs?"

With everything arranged, Winona didn't know how to react other than to nod. Evander and Dylan supported her on either side, and under the watchful eyes of many, she 'painfully' entered the elevator.

Noticing her confusion, Evander smiled kindly and said, "Someone doesn't want you to be mistreated at the company and hopes you can pursue what you love. They asked me to find an opportunity, and here it is."
