Chapter 223 Fighting Fire with Fire
She wasn't surprised that there were hidden surveillance cameras in places like the Night Club. But Winona wanting to use such unidentifiable footage to incriminate her was simply naive and laughable.
Seeing no substantial evidence, Fiona regained her confidence. "Winona, I know you hate me, but trying to frame me with this is just not credible."
She didn't even bother to ask what had happened, as it was evident from the video alone.
Winona indeed had no additional evidence. She wasn't some omniscient protagonist with God's eye view. In a situation where the other party was not foolish and clearly prepared, where could she find evidence? So, she took out the pills Matthew had given her. "Does this look familiar?"
Fiona retorted, "Even if it looks familiar, are you trying to pin it on me again? The appearance of pills can be similar. I had cold medicine yesterday, and it looked just like this."
Winona raised an eyebrow. "What kind of medicine did you give Matthew last night?"
"It was also cold medicine," Fiona replied, her tone defensive. "He said he had a headache and wasn't feeling well, so I gave him one."
Neither of them had the upper hand in their confrontation. The bar was so noisy at the time that even if there were surveillance cameras, they wouldn't be able to hear their conversation.
Winona chuckled and handed the pill to Fiona. "If that's the case, then go ahead and take it."
Fiona's eyes widened in shock. "Why should I take it? You can't just take pills randomly."
"This is the same pill you gave Matthew last night. You said it was cold medicine, right?"
"I gave him cold medicine, but who knows if you switched it with something else," she said, raising her chin proudly. "I don't know what happened with you last night, but after I finished talking with Matthew, I went straight back. You can check the surveillance footage for that."
She pursed her lips and looked at Zachary.
He had said Winona was looking for her, and he had indeed remained silent the whole time. Even though she was being relentlessly questioned, he stood by without saying a word. Fiona knew that because of her father's connections, this man would show her a bit more leniency, but now she suddenly wasn't so sure. "You're saying I did it. Do you have any evidence?"
This statement seemed more directed at Zachary than at Winona.
Winona laughed as if she had heard a funny joke. "Solving the case is the police's job. Why would I need evidence? If I think the person in the video is you, then it's you. But I am curious, how did you bribe my roommate?"
If this matter were reported to the police, it would likely not lead to a case due to insufficient evidence. Even if they could find something, it would probably only result in a charge of attempted murder, which wouldn't lead to a long sentence for the perpetrator.
And Winona, well, she liked to fight fire with fire.
Fiona vehemently denied, "I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't even know your roommate, let alone bribe them."
Winona turned to Zachary and said, "If Ms. Clark doesn't want to take it herself, then you can feed it to her. If you insist on staying, you have to be useful in some way."
She had originally planned to confront Fiona alone, but Zachary insisted on staying. She had no way to deal with him, so she had to let him stay.
When it came to influencing Ms. Clark, it had to be Zachary.
The man frowned.
Fiona, seeing him like this, felt a glimmer of hope and a sense of injustice.
If he hadn't been so cold toward her recently, she wouldn't have done something like this.
When Winona saw Fiona in an emotionally unstable state, she suddenly got up and stuffed the pill into Fiona's mouth. She didn't expect Zachary to do anything. She was just trying to disturb Fiona's emotions and seize an opportunity.
The pill dissolved in Fiona's mouth, and the taste of orange soda filled her oral cavity.
These pills were usually made to taste good. If they were too bitter, they wouldn't be able to deceive people.
Fiona was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized and tried to spit out the pill. Winona, however, covered her mouth. "Fiona, let's make a bet. No matter what happens tonight, we'll consider this matter settled."
In Fiona's eyes, Winona's smile at that moment resembled that of a malicious witch.
She shook her head vigorously, trying to break free from Winona's restraint, but the pill dissolved too quickly. By the time she managed to break free, the liquid had already flowed down her throat and into her stomach.
"I hope you have good luck tonight and meet a gentleman like Matthew," Zachary said. He didn't touch her because he wasn't interested in her. But Matthew was currently pursuing her, and he hadn't taken advantage of her vulnerable state, which truly showed his gentlemanly demeanor.
She glanced in Zachary's direction. "Or perhaps your wishes will be fulfilled."
Taking the pill wasn't the problem; the trouble was being taken advantage of by someone she didn't like. If this villain, who was mistreating others, were replaced by Zachary, Fiona would eagerly welcome it.
Fiona crouched there, retching, but even after a long time, she couldn't vomit anything.
Winona didn't immediately have her taken to the room; instead, she observed from the side.
As the effects of the drug took hold, Fiona quickly collapsed onto the ground, her body weakening, exhibiting the same symptoms as the previous night. Time seemed to slow down as she lay there.
Winona's eyes darkened, coinciding with the time she had collapsed at the bathroom door after drinking her last glass of wine the previous night. So, most likely, there was something wrong with that drink.
And that drink was served by Alice.
Winona asked, "How much did you pay Alice to drug me?"
Fiona was in no state to listen to her now. The discomfort, like being burned alive, had already eroded her sanity. She curled up, unable to bear it, and crawled toward Zachary.
Winona called in two waiters and instructed, "Help Ms. Clark to room 701, and remember not to lock the door."
After Fiona was dragged away, Winona turned to Zachary, whose face had become extremely gloomy. "Go up to room 701 now, or you'll miss the chance. Otherwise, with her current state, she would even pounce on a stray dog. If you go too late, you'll have to wait for the next round."
