Chapter 238 I'm Also Her Family Member
Samuel didn't expect to be reprimanded after offering a few kind words. "That's the company's phone. I run a film company. What's wrong with having photos of a few actresses for auditions in my email?"
Right now, Samuel just wanted to smash the phone in Zachary's face and never introduce him to any women again.
When Zachary arrived at the hospital, it was already late at night. The nurse checked Winona's ward number for him. "Sir, visiting hours are over. If you want to see the patient, please come back tomorrow morning. Otherwise, you will disturb the other patients in the ward."
As she spoke, Zachary saw Austin coming out of the ward, who was about to fetch water with a warm water bottle. Zachary's expression turned cold as he pointed at him. "Why is he still here?"
Intimidated by his presence, the nurse glanced in Austin's direction. "He's a family member and needs to stay with the patient."
"A family member." Zachary gritted his teeth, the words sounding full of resentment. "He's a family member? Have you checked his identity?"
"He said he's the patient's husband."
The nurse was quite taken with Austin. Firstly, he was handsome and polite. Secondly, he carried the patient up the stairs with palpable tenderness in his eyes. This stirred a blush and flutter among the young ladies in the nursing department who complained that all the good guys were already spoken for.
"Husband? Have you seen the marriage certificate? Merely stating that he is the husband does not make it so. What if he's a fraud?"
The young nurse felt a bit awkward in front of the well-dressed and dignified man. The hospital wasn't a court. Why did they have to check the marriage certificate? Besides, the woman he brought in wasn't seriously ill. Family members signing in was just a formality. In such situations, they didn't have the energy to investigate further, even if it was a 60 or 70-year-old man claiming to be the patient's husband. This was especially the case when the man in question was young and handsome.
If it had been just Austin, it would have been fine for him, as he had handed her over to Austin. The situation was urgent at the time, and they needed a family member's signature to enter the hospital. Impersonation was the only way. But Matthew was also there.
Seeing Zachary standing in front of the duty room, Matthew hesitated for a moment, then walked over calmly. "We're out of medicine."
Zachary's teeth were clenched, and he slowly spoke through his teeth, "Is he also her family member?"
The nurse felt confused. "He's the patient's brother."
The hospital regulations stated that only one family member could stay overnight, but the nurse couldn't resist the gentle approach of this man. He promised not to disturb other patients and would leave once the patient finished the intravenous infusion.
Zachary sneered and strode towards the ward.
The nurse was taken aback and hurried to catch up. "Sir, you can't go in. It's not visiting hours."
"I'm also her family member."
The nurse felt her head spinning and blurted out subconsciously, "Are you also the patient's brother?"
Although he looked nothing like Matthew in terms of aura and appearance, Zachary could only be the patient's brother considering his age.
Zachary gritted his teeth. "I'm her ex-husband."
Winona was awake, leaning against the head of the bed. Because there was another patient in the next bed, she only had a small night light on. However, it was enough to see that Winona's face was excessively pale, her lips still lacking color, and her eyes showing a hint of exhasustion.
Seeing Zachary, Winona showed no particular reaction.
Each hospital bed was only equipped with one stool. Matthew was a bit late, because he called the nurse to remove the needle. When he entered, he saw Zachary sitting arrogantly on the stool with his legs apart, with his gaze fixed on Winona.
The nurse removed the needle and turned to Zachary. "Only one family member can accompany the patient. Both of you, please leave, and ex-husbands are not considered family members."
Zachary retorted, "I also need to be hospitalized."
"Are you sick, too?"
Zachary seemed fine, except for his abnormal behavior.
Zachary gestured towards Winona on the bed. "I'll have the same illness as her."
"You need to see a doctor for diagnosis. Only if the doctor recommends hospitalization can you stay," the nurse replied. Although the nurse felt the man was deliberately causing trouble, their staff regulations stipulated that engaging in arguments with patients was prohibited.
Winona remained silent until she saw Zachary trying to bribe someone in the next bed to change rooms. She couldn't hold back. "Zachary, I made it clear to you on the mountain."
"What did you say? Did you say that you are grateful that I saved you back then?"
Winona was furious but didn't want to discuss private matters in front of so many people, so she gritted her teeth. "If you're not sick, why stay in the hospital? Wasting medical resources is shameful."
"Climbing the same mountain, embracing the same storm, I have lingered on these slopes longer than you. How is it possible that I remain in good health while you need to be hospitalized?"
The person in the adjacent bed, not seriously ill, took the money and left without bothering to change rooms, heading home to sleep. Dylan, looking sleepy, entered with bedsheets and a hospital gown, quickly setting up the bed for the patient without daring to look at Winona, feeling embarrassed.
Even without looking, Dylan could sense the intimidating gaze of Winona.
"Mr. Bailey, the admission procedures have been completed. Do you need me to stay here with you?" Dylan politely inquired, fearing that Mr. Bailey would complained about his inadequacy as a secretary and cut his pay.
Zachary impatiently replied, "No."
"Alright, rest well." he swiftly left. As he passed Austin bed, he added, "Madam, rest well. Wishing you and Mr. Bailey a speedy recovery."
Austin sensed the tense atmosphere as he entered the room and found Zachary occupying the neighboring bed.
He lit a cigarette, thinking, 'Has this guy taken over the place?'
Ignoring Zachary's cold and fierce gaze, Austin sat by Winona's bed, reached out to touch Austin forehead, and thought, 'Winona seems to have a fever.'
