Chapter 15 Did You Sleep with Her?
Winona was stunned by the shouting, unable to react for a moment. She glanced at Lydia, who was staring at her from the hospital bed, and turned to walk outside the room.
"What are you talking about?" Zachary's voice was low, "Where are you now?"
"Hospital..." The words about her mother being sick hadn't even come out, and the man rudely interrupted her, "Winona, where are you really?"
"Even if you need an excuse, find a convincing one. You were so eager for a divorce before, but after just one night, what kind of serious illness is making you unable to even get out of bed? Or is this whole scene not about getting a divorce at all, but a strategy to make me want you even more?"
Winona knew she didn't have a good image in Zachary's heart, but she didn't expect it to be this bad. He didn't even have the patience to listen to her finish speaking, and quickly accused her.
She took a deep breath and suppressed the sourness rising in her heart. "It's not me, it's my mother who's sick. She has a high fever of forty degrees and was just rushed to the hospital."
There was suddenly silence on the other line.
"Don't you know?" Winona now sarcastically retorted, "My mother is sick, but the maid only remembered to call me and never thought of informing you. How many times has my mother been sick in the past three years and you had no idea?"
What was even more ironic was that there was a time when she received a call from Sarah at work, saying that Lydia was not well. At that time, Zachary and the HR department intentionally made things difficult for her and didn't approve her leave. In that urgent situation, she just decided to take a day off work.
Later, Zachary blamed her in front of many people without any reason, "If you can't bear hardship, go back to being a prostitute. The Bailey Group doesn't recruit trash!"
She was foolish for not defending herself just to save face for him.
Winona still remembered the contempt and disdain in the eyes of her colleagues at that time...
Time seemed to stand still at this moment. After what felt like an eternity, Zachary's faint voice came through, "Next time something like this happens, call me."
Winona couldn't hear any hint of him surrendering in his words, and even if she did, she wouldn't think much of it. She had been overly sentimental.
She didn't respond and simply hung up the phone, afraid that Lydia might suspect something. She stood in the hallway for a while before going inside.
Zachary arrived quickly.
Winona glanced at Lydia, who was sleeping on the sick bed. Every time she fell ill, she became so weak as if she had lost half of her life.
"I have something to tell you," she said.
Zachary thought she was going to talk about their divorce again and impatiently furrowed his brows.
"Whatever it is, we can discuss it later. My mother is in such a condition now, I don't have time to deal with your tantrums."
After all this time, he still believed that she was just throwing a fit?
Winona was about to say something when her gaze fell on a red mark on the man's neck.
This location... she couldn't help but sneer. There was no avoiding it at all, he hadn't even divorced yet and he couldn't even clean up after cheating!
Zachary glared at her fiercely and turned around to walk out of the ward.
In the hallway, Winona put her hands in her pockets and looked at the white wall in front of her. "The doctor wants the mother to undergo a detailed examination."
Zachary frowned. "What happened?"
"I don't know. The doctor said we'll have to wait for the results of the examination to know the situation."
After she finished speaking, she raised her wrist to check the time. "Mother just fell asleep, she won't wake up for a while. The civil affairs office will be on lunch break for over an hour, so we still have enough time."
Upon hearing this, Zachary looked at her with a gloomy expression...
Ever since Winona mentioned divorce, her attitude towards him had become cold and harsh, which made him feel frustrated and unable to express or swallow his anger. Everything seemed irritating.
"Your mother is sick like this, and yet you're still thinking about divorce? Winona, won't it prick your conscience?"
Her conscience? It had gradually worn away with his repeated indifference and aloofness.
"If that's how you want to put it, then yes."
Winona's indifferent attitude provoked Zachary, causing his eyes to narrow. It reminded him of the last time she bought a men's bag in front of him.
He had thought Winona bought it on a whim just to spite him, thinking she would give it to him in a few days.
Similar situations had occurred before, where she deliberately bought misleading items to make him jealous, claiming they were gifts for others, only to keep them in the wardrobe at home.
But at a banquet last night, he saw another man carrying the exact same bag.
Initially, he had assumed it was the same model, but each luxury bag had its unique serial number. For some unknown reason, he had taken a glance at it.
It was the same bag Winona bought that day.
"You're so eager to get rid of me, are you climbing onto another man? That bag you bought last time, was it for him? What did you see in that old and ugly man?"
Winona couldn't understand what Zachary was saying, but her patience had also worn thin, and she frowned impatience. "Are you sick or what? Do you not find it tiring to say so much?"
He sneered, "We'll talk about divorce later. Mom is still receiving treatment and needs someone to take care of her."
Winona disliked this now. She always felt that more problems would arise if they spent more time together.
"You can let a Sarah take care for a while, it won't take up too much of your time."
Zachary's expression grew even darker, and a shadow fell over his eyelids. "I said we'll make plans for another time."
Winona didn't catch his underlying meaning and thought for a moment before asking, "What about this afternoon?"
Regardless, she had already taken a day off, so a few more hours wouldn't make a difference.
Lydia's medicine wasn't much, and it should be finished by noon. The Civil Affairs Bureau closed at half-past five no matter what, today was still feasible.
Before she finished speaking, Zachary suddenly grasped her jaw, his voice filled with irritation as he whispered harshly in her ear, "Men can't handle being provoked. The more urgent you are, the more I won't fulfill your wishes."
There was a warning tone in his words, extremely malicious.
"Zachary, someone who thinks like that isn't a man, but a beast." Winona unreservedly slapped away his hand and turned to leave.
Watching the woman disappear into the elevator, Zachary felt annoyed, to the point that he wanted to smoke.
After standing there for a while, he turned and entered the ward, only to be hit in the abdomen by a pillow coming straight at him!
He saw Lydia, glaring at him with a face full of resentment. "You can't even coax your wife. What kind of trash can did you come out of? Since we're in the hospital, go get a paternity test. Your father and I absolutely couldn't have given birth to a bad person like you!"
Zachary's eyes turned cold as he spoke, his voice dropping several degrees. "Winona told you that we slept together last night? And she said we were getting a divorce?"
This woman was demanding a divorce while secretly badmouthing him. She knew very well that if Lydia found out about this, she would never agree to their divorce. Winona, I underestimated you.
