Chapter 509 Awkward Scene

The nurse was nearby and immediately noticed the bloodstains on the bedsheet. Her eyebrows shot up as she nervously asked, "Why is there so much blood? Are you feeling okay? I'll go get the doctor."

Before Winona could say anything, the nurse dashed off.

As she left, the nurse called out to Austin, "You're the boyfriend, right? Go to the convenience store downstairs and grab some sanitary pads and underwear for her."

Winona was mortified.

She looked up, covering her face in embarrassment. She couldn't stop Austin because she really needed those things right now. She couldn't just wait around for Sarah to show up. She said, "Also, get me a towel. I need to take a shower."

Austin felt awkward too. He'd never had a girlfriend and had spent years in the military with a bunch of guys. He had no clue about a woman's menstrual cycle, let alone a situation like this after a miscarriage. He replied, "Okay, anything else? I'll get it all at once."

Winona weakly said, "No, just hurry, please."

She was terrified the same thing would happen again, which would be awful.

Later, the nurse came back with the doctor in tow. Even though the doctor knew Winona hadn't miscarried, he still followed the standard procedure. He said, "There's no major issue. Just keep warm."

Winona stiffly said, "Thank you."

Meanwhile, Austin used his military speed to rush from the hospital room to the convenience store downstairs. He went straight to the shelf with sanitary pads and scanned the various brands, clueless about which one Winona usually used. So, he grabbed one of each brand and type.

He picked up a towel and noticed some hand warmers nearby, so he grabbed a pack of those too. Women often had cold hands and feet, and after a miscarriage, their bodies needed to be kept warm. These could come in handy.

Just as Austin was heading to the escalator with his haul, he bumped into Zachary, who was rushing over.

The two men met, and neither looked happy to see the other.

Zachary glanced at the pile of items Austin was carrying and, after a moment, asked, "Who are you buying these for?"

"The nurse said it's for my girlfriend," Austin said, lifting the items a bit higher, afraid Zachary wouldn't see them.

What? Zachary thought this jerk must be trying to steal his identity again.

He pulled out his wallet from his suit pocket, took out a few hundred-dollar bills, and stuffed them into Austin's hand. Then he grabbed the items from Austin. "Consider the rest your errand fee. I'll take care of Winona. You can leave now."

After taking the items, he stepped onto the escalator.

Austin wasn't about to let Zachary off that easily. He followed and quickly grabbed the other side of the bag. He said, "This isn't right. I've already shown my face to the doctor and nurse. Everyone on that floor knows I'm Winona's boyfriend. If someone else goes back, what will people say about her? It won't be good for her reputation, so you should leave."

Zachary gritted his teeth and pulled the bag towards himself. "It's fine. I can explain to them."Austin, with a forced smile, yanked the bag back. "You can explain to them, but can you explain to the Ramsey family why you're interested in the widow of the former president of the Bailey Group?"

The plastic bag, no match for two grown men tugging at it, tore right down the middle, sending the contents scattering everywhere.

Their tussle on the escalator had already drawn attention. With their striking looks and commanding presence, they attracted even more stares, especially from the girls around.

As everyone gawked at the mess, a hush fell over the entire first floor. This high-end private hospital didn't have many patients to begin with, so the sudden silence made the situation even more awkward. The young nurses' initially amazed looks turned into speechless stares, wondering what kind of normal men would fight over a bag of sanitary pads in public.

Zachary and Austin fell silent.

Both men, one from the business world and the other from the military, needed to keep their cool in this awkward situation. So, they both tried to act indifferent.

Zachary glanced down at the box of women's underwear that had fallen at his feet, his indifferent expression growing even darker. As the escalator reached the top, he bent down to pick up the items, grabbing a couple of packs of sanitary pads as well. Seeing Austin still standing there without any intention of helping, he said, "What are you standing there for? Pick them up."

He suspected Austin had emptied the convenience store's stock of sanitary pads, given how many there were.

Austin yawned. "I just got back from the military and I'm a bit tired. I'll go take a nap first and come back to see Winona later."

If picking up the items meant Winona would be with Austin, he would do it all day. But it was clear that wouldn't happen, so he didn't see the need to be so eager. He was already running around awkwardly, and later Zachary would be flaunting his affection with Winona in front of him. Austin wasn't going to do something so foolish.

Zachary looked at the pile of items on the first floor and gritted his teeth. "Did you empty the supermarket?" he asked.

"If I had known this would happen, I would have cleared out the warehouse too." Austin ran faster than a rabbit, and by the time he replied, he was almost on the first floor.

Meanwhile, Winona maintained her previous posture, waiting anxiously for Austin to return. The nurse had already changed the soiled bedsheet, and Winona stood still, not daring to move or even breathe too hard, afraid the same situation would happen again.

The sound of the door handle being pressed down came from the door.

Winona turned around in surprise, looking at the slowly opening door like it was her savior. The slow speed of the door opening made her anxious. When did Austin become so slow? Couldn't he show the same urgency he had when visiting earlier? "Austin, can you hurry up? What's there to be embarrassed about?" Winona exclaimed.

She thought Austin was opening the door slowly because he felt embarrassed, not realizing it was Zachary.

As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Zachary carrying a large bag of sanitary pads.
