Chapter 373 Conversations at the Mall

Evander's arm was still stinging from the slap, and he quickly grabbed Lydia's hand to stop her. "Can you chill for a sec and watch the rest? Right now, it's your son kissing someone else, and Winona hasn't even reacted yet. For all we know, she might slap him in the next second, and then you'll be crying at the police station to bail out your son for public molestation."

Lydia rolled her eyes. "You're such a drama queen. Can't you hope for something good for our son and daughter-in-law?"

Despite her words, she held back her excited hand and leaned against the wall, watching closely.

Evander was right, Winona hadn't reacted yet. This was just their son's one-sided move.

On the other side.

Winona didn't expect Zachary to suddenly kiss her. She was stunned for a moment, then quickly stepped back a few steps to put some distance between them. "Zachary, what the heck are you doing? Why did you kiss me out of nowhere? What if someone sees us?"

She looked around like a thief, her face clearly showing she didn't recognize the man. Zachary's face darkened, his voice cool and a bit dejected. "Am I really not good enough?"

Winona initially wanted to brush him off with his intern status, but seeing his pitiful expression, she softened a bit, feeling like an irresponsible flirt.

"It's not because you're not good enough, but those two people who threw acid at me haven't been found yet. What if they suddenly jump out from some corner and splash it on your face?"

She was scared yesterday, and by the time she thought of calling the police, Zachary said he had already sent someone to handle it.

This morning, she asked about the progress, and they still hadn't found the people.

Winona said, "Mr. Lewis isn't around now, and there's no place for you to hide. If they splash acid on you, it will be a direct hit. Such a handsome face, it would be a shame if it got disfigured."

Zachary, who had been sulking like someone owed him money, was instantly cheered up, his eyes bright and lively.

He arrogantly said, "I will protect you well, just as Anthony would. Those two people were found yesterday. Don't be afraid, no one will harm you."

Before he could finish, Zachary's nerves tensed up. He hadn't even realized why, but his sixth sense told him something was wrong.

Sure enough, Winona, who had just been looking at him with concern, now raised an eyebrow and sneered at him. "Didn't you say this morning that they hadn't been found? I knew you were lying to me."

She had thought for a long time last night but couldn't remember when Zachary got hurt.

With his personality, if he had really been hurt, he would have lifted his shirt to show her the wound and take advantage of the situation. But not only did he not do that, he even seemed to be avoiding her, going back to the master bedroom to sleep.

It was nothing like before when he would constantly come up with ways to get her to move in with him, or for him to move in with her.

The more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.

Zachary remained silent.

He now wished he could slap himself. People really shouldn't get cocky, it always led to trouble.

Seeing his guilty look, Winona understood everything.

"I think you're right. Dylan should make an assessment form. You started lying even before you were confirmed in your position. Your conduct is unacceptable, and you will never be hired."

Zachary thought his sad puppy act had worked, thinking she was finally explaining things to him instead of brushing him off with the "internship period" excuse.

This sudden twist caught him off guard, not expecting to be outsmarted.

"So, how many points do I have in your heart now?"

He needed a baseline to decide whether to make the assessment form.

"Every day, I feel like firing you a thousand times. How many points do you think that's worth?"

Zachary didn't respond.

Seeing his dejected look, like a wilted eggplant, Winona couldn't help but reflect on whether she was being too harsh on him.

Although it was an internship, they were still considered a couple. Zachary had been very accommodating to her lately. She said she didn't want to go public, and he really hadn't told anyone. Although he would occasionally hint at it with items, he never said a word.

Her rules had flaws, and she couldn't blame him for exploiting them.

Moreover, she recently noticed that he had put his wedding ring back on but never mentioned or hinted that she should wear hers.

He knew she had no confidence in him or their marriage and didn't want to pressure her, so he waited for the day she would willingly take the ring out of the junk drawer and put it back on.

The more she reflected, the more she felt she was in the wrong.

For a moment, Winona's guilt peaked. She reached out and hooked Zachary's pinky finger. "Sorry, I was just talking nonsense. I never thought about firing you."

Winona barely touched him before pulling her hand back.

Although those two people had been caught, the mastermind was still at large. Yesterday, Rebecca got hurt because of her, which was a big blow.

She wouldn't give up investigating the truth from back then, which meant she would inevitably clash with the mastermind again. Winona didn't want to drag Zachary into it, fearing he would be the next one to get hurt because of her.

The other person knew everything about her, almost down to the color of her underwear, while she didn't even know if the person was male or female. This situation made her anxious, eager to catch the person.

Even if the other person's power was insurmountable, at least if they fought openly, she would know who her enemy was, rather than dying unjustly.

Thinking this way, Winona lost half her interest in shopping. "Where are those two people?"

Zachary's excitement from her earlier gesture was instantly frozen by her question. He suspected she had said those things to make him happy just to find out the whereabouts of those two people.

If she had shown a bit less urgency, he wouldn't have thought this way.

He said sullenly, "In the servant's quarters at Regal Oaks."

Lydia, seeing how things were developing, knew the two were still far from remarrying. She could only comfort herself, "At least Winona didn't slap that ungrateful brat, which means there's still a chance. Call the housekeeper and tell her to prepare more food tonight. I'll invite them over for dinner."

She was already fantasizing about taking her grandchildren on trips. "At this stage, they need to spend more time together to develop further. I need to prepare the wedding for them. We didn't do it properly last time, but this time it has to be grand. I'll rent an LED screen in the busiest commercial area of Dreamopolis for a month to continuously play the wedding footage."
