Chapter 370 Introducing a Girlfriend
So, turned out the whole point was to set him up with a girlfriend.
The chick in red was checking Frank out on the sly. She couldn't pin down his age. He had that old-school charm and a tall frame that made you forget how old he might be.
Mode City, The Turner Family—yeah, she knew about them. If she could get close to Frank, her family's money problems would be history.
"Frank, nice to meet you," she said.
A few days back, her dad almost pawned her off to some dude in his sixties. She had no choice but to roll the dice.
She'd heard Mr. Bailey married his ex-wife after a one-night stand, no love involved, and cleared billions in debt for her. So, she set her sights on him.
But Zachary wasn't into her at all. Now, looking at Frank, she was pretty pleased.
With the red-dressed woman's enthusiasm, Frank could only respond with a smile, "Nice to meet you." He glanced at Zachary and sneered inwardly, 'How could a jerk like you marry Winona?'
Zachary, clueless about Frank's thoughts, just nodded, "I won't bother you."
He didn't stick around the party long. He'd already mingled and had a few drinks, making his stomach burn.
After leaving the hall, he stood at the door and texted Winona: [Come out, we're leaving.]
While waiting, Zachary put a cigarette between his lips, about to light it, when someone slowly approached.
She looked super reluctant.
This chick looked like a scared deer, all tense and ready to bolt.
Zachary paused, frowning impatiently.
Another girl trying to throw herself at him?
He stayed in his cigarette-lighting pose and only looked up coldly when she got close. His eyes were icy, like something dead in the night.
Scarlett was startled, tensing up, and stammered, "Someone asked me to ask if you liked the flowers he sent last time."
Zachary immediately thought of the bouquet he got after dining with Winona.
His indifferent look darkened, "Where is he?"
Scarlett pointed to the garden, "Over there."
Afraid Zachary would think she was in on it, she quickly explained, "I just ran into him there. He held a knife to my back and spoke from behind. I didn't see his face."
She was so anxious she was about to cry. She shouldn't have gone out for fresh air and ended up in this mess.
The girl in front of him was as simple as a single-celled organism, easy to read. He looked where she pointed, but it was all shadows, no one in sight.
Winona had almost reached the door when she got Zachary's message, but she didn't see him when she stepped out.
She pulled out her phone, ready to text him, when she saw Zachary walking out from the garden. Seeing his stern face, Winona looked behind him, confused, "What's up?"
Zachary's expression softened, "Nothing, just went out for a smoke."
Winona did catch a faint whiff of smoke on him.
Waterfront Pearl.
Frank's crib in Dreamopolis.
As soon as he got home, Frank lost it and smashed a cup. Rodolfo trailed behind him, "Mr. Turner, the doc said you gotta chill out and keep that blood pressure in check."
Frank was still fuming. He sneered, "Those options weren't for those two; they were a show for me. He's using Winona's life to mess with me."
Talking about the threat, he pressed on his abdomen, where an old injury started to ache.
"Mr. Turner," a security guard called from outside the door, "Kyle's here, and he brought Eva."
Frank rubbed his temples, "Clean up this mess and let them in."
Kyle, all smiles and gentle, walked in, "Frank, Eva knows she messed up. She's been reflecting in Mode City, crying her eyes out. You've always spoiled her, you wouldn't want her to cry herself blind, right? Let this be a lesson for her."
He glanced at Eva.
Eva quickly admitted, "Frank, I know I was wrong."
Kyle jumped in, "See? She's really sorry this time. Tomorrow, I'll take her to apologize to Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Bailey."
"She knows she was wrong? What about the people she forced to quit and transfer schools?"
He spoiled her because she was family, and there weren't many girls in the next generation of The Turner Family. But she was just a niece, and he couldn't control everything. He'd only recently found out about the crazy stuff Eva did abroad.
Kyle looked at Eva, confused, "What resignations? What transfers?"
Eva started shaking and quickly said, "Frank, I know I was wrong. Please, don't say anything. I won't bother Winona again."
"Frank, it's my bad for not raising her right, making her so reckless. I'll make sure to straighten her out from now on."
Frank waved his hand, annoyed, "Handle your family's mess yourself. You've been out of school for two years now. If you wanna stay in Dreamopolis, get a real job."
He then looked at Kyle, "If you keep spoiling her, she's gonna cause some serious trouble sooner or later."
After they left, Rodolfo said, "According to the folks tracking Kyle, nothing's off. Same routine every day: work, social stuff, home. Everyone in his call records checks out. Are we overthinking this?"
Kyle had always been unambitious, polite, and supportive of Frank, the most loyal member of Turner Family. He just spoiled his kid too much.
Frank looked at the door, "That's not necessarily true. In the Turner Family, after decades of backstabbing, the ones left are all schemers."
Outside, the driver saw Kyle and Eva coming out and quickly started the car.
Once in the car, the usually cocky Eva curled up in the seat by the window, not daring to make a sound.
The vibe in the car was tense.
After they left the Waterfront Pearl area, Kyle raised his hand and slapped her.
"I sent you abroad to get some experience, not to trash your reputation. You're as short-sighted as your mother."
Eva's head buzzed from the slap, and she covered her face, not daring to make a sound.
"If you screw up again and get sent back to Mode City like a stray, you'll have to agree to that marriage we arranged for you, whether you like it or not." He looked at her with disdain, "Even if you hate it, tough luck."
